quiet day
he didn't even let him finish
i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!
sometimes u headcanon a character as a sexuality but then also ship things that contradict that. sometimes you ship things you would NEVER EVER want in canon. this is because these things are fun and silly and not legally binding.
I miss when ads were a single click and then they’re gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesn’t even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you can’t do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that there’s nothing I can do about it.
I love being an adult who always puts my hand out to shake when I meet a kid! every single time their face is like "no one does The Adult Greeting Ritual with me, is this a sign of respect or is this man simply unhinged" and then of course as we talk they realise it's both

Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
A Sherlock Holmes book hates to see me coming
Reading old detective stories is so funny bc like. Murder used to be so fucking easy. I’m reading a Poirot mystery and the murderer just popped down to the chemist and bought a bottle of strychnine. And they were wearing a fake beard so nobody knows who it was. No prescription, no ID, just waltzed in to the shops and bought a bottle of one of the deadliest poisons known to man. Sure, why not.
Me in the 21st century: has to jump through a million hoops every single fucking month to get the FDA approved medication that my doctor prescribed to me that is completely safe for me to take because SOME people take this medication even though they don’t need it and they get addicted to it
Joe Murderer back in 1925: Hey I’m running out to the shops to buy some arsenic, anyone want some morphine while I’m out?

Little gay people running through fields and solving murders and such
The emphasis on the effect of Watson's battle wound - including Holmes taking it seriously and asking Watson if he feels okay on multiple occasions - makes the ending of Bert Coules' STUD much more charged in my opinion. It's not just Holmes giving Watson the authorization to publish his account of the investigation: it's Holmes, having witnessed how much Watson's nerves are frayed, encouraging him to channel his enthusiasm into a creative activity that will do him good. It's especially striking considering that, in this adaptation, Holmes knows about Watson's list! He's got a glimpse of how Watson perceives him! And he still subjects himself to it because it might be a good conduit to Watson's restless energy.
Feeling very aroace about the world
Little Rant
I'm so tired of media which does the queerbaity thing of not making Holmes and Watson a romantic couple, but putting lots of jokes in about them being a couple to excite the queer fanbase (while not alienating a casual audience).
I know this is old news, but it specifically annoys me because I've realised it affects how people respond to my game which is very earnestly trying to explore the ambiguity of their relationship.
Case in point- In the prologue of Beekeeper's Picnic, there's this part where Watson is sent some flowers by a colleague. I wrote Holmes' reaction as being humourously overblown (he instantly decides he hates those stupid flowers), but I intended the feelings he's feeling to be very genuine — he's frustrated that this stranger can show the nature of her intentions so simply and openly, and he's very afraid of Watson's place in his life being impacted by Watson potentially entering a romantic relationship with her. I'm sure a lot of a-spec folks know that cocktail of feelings. It's also setting up the fact that he's not great at examining his own feelings or talking/thinking through them (and he may not be an easy person to live with) - he'd rather just get snotty about some flowers.
But I've found that previous experience has taught some players to react to that "joke" as being just queerbaiting, that Holmes expressing his frustration at Watson's potential paramour is just me, the writer, teasing the player, rather than a moment of genuine storytelling that will be pivotal followed through on.
Grrrr. Blargh. Hurumph.
