Hello and welcome! Formerly an all-in-one blog for personal, RP's and writing, now this is just my personal blog. Still, thanks for stopping by, my inbox is always open. Occasional NSFW. My icon is by the amazing Mayadile!
It’s been a while since I’ve made any major updates or changes to this blog, so allow me to reintroduce myself. I’m John, also known as Monitor or Keyboard-Ninja depending on where you might find me. Hello and welcome to my personal blog, formerly also my writing and role-play blogs too, which have since been made into their own separate things!
A little about me: I’m in my thirties, ace/aro, my pronouns are he/they, and I’m a writer and aspiring novelist. My interests include autumn, Halloween, monsters, a wide range of music across nearly all genres, cats, bugs, baking, and playing farming sims, rogue-lites, and fantasy card-games, among other things.
For links on where else to find me, my current personal tags list, and my DNI advisement, please have a gander under the cut.

If you’re a pedophile, transphobic/queerphobic or exclusionary (whether it be against ace-people, gay, bi, pan or genderfluid, nonbinary or gender nonconforming, ect.), fascist, xenophobic/racist; or willing and comfortable supporting or tolerating the same?
Perfect for explorers, as it tries to dig up everything it can smell. It opens up dungeons and pits to hell surprisingly often, occasionally directly under its owner.
GOYLEFINX
A great choice for the cautious adventurer, GOYLEFINX is able to see 9 seconds into the future so it can warn its owner of impending danger. However, it occasionally decides to let them get hurt just to keep them humble.
SLUGMARINE
A delight among culinary adventurers, as the oily slime it secretes can be used in all sorts of wonderful recipes that are normally hard to come by on the road. Unless you cook it expertly, it's *extremely* poisonous.
HEADSCRATCHER
Frequently chosen by villains in training, this oddball bat prefers to scheme and strike from the shadows rather than attack directly. It will create traps for its owner to keep them sharp.
I get it if you're not paying attention to the news. It's scary, it's exhausting, and a lot of people here are in particularly vulnerable demographics. So I'll just tell you, now is definitely not the time to stop pushing or despair.
Every major news outlet, including Fox and Newsmax, refused to sign Pete Hegseth's ridiculous demand for control over what they published from the Pentagon.
Many airports refused to air Kristi Noem's propaganda video blaming the govt shutdown on the Democrats.
Farmers are furious over the fallout from the trade war with China and now a huge bailout for their direct competitors in Argentina.
A judge in Chicago barred ICE agents from arresting people in court.
MIT, University of Pennsylvania, and a couple other schools have been the first to refuse the administration's ultimatum to either accept a complete govt audit of classes offered or lose federal funding, and we can hope others will follow suit.
The administration continues to lose legal cases regularly, and now the Attorney General of Arizona is threatening to sue Speaker of the House Mike Johnson for his continued refusal to swear in Adelita Grijalva, who was elected to the House in a special election nearly three weeks ago. She would make the last signature needed on a House petition to push the Epstein case to the next stage.
Steven Miller is selling his house in Arlington, VA and moving, because people kept writing criticism of him in chalk on the sidewalks. Lol.
There is blood in the water, guys. Don't stop pushing. Find your nearest No Kings protest tomorrow, and put the fear of the people in the hearts of some Republican governors and congressmen.
Note that he specifically says the invention of sticky tape. And you know why that is? It's because we've actually had non-sticky tape for centuries. It's just, before adhesive got added, before we had plastics, it used to be more along these lines in looks (only much tidier, and sometimes in more boring colours):
This, too, is tape. Woven tape! And it was used for things like apron strings, hair ties, decorative trim, anything that you might use string for but need something a little stronger, and shoe laces!
In fact, we still use it for shoe laces today, as the kind of fabric they're made of specifically is woven tape!
It's a very cool bit of human history to me, that we have, in fact, been using tape to attach things together for so much longer than most of use realize.
I love it.
To be human is to see two things that need to be attached together, sigh, and go look for the tape.
there's been multiple reports of people's computers not booting properly after the windows 11 24H2 KB5063878 update due to it essentially wiping the hard drives (specifically SSDs) on computers and laptops. users have reported their SSDs aren't able to be read/recognized and unable to be seen in bios settings either.
it's safe to assume all SSDs can be potentially affected by this update, so if you haven't updated yet turn off autoupdates
the bug caused by this update is seemingly triggered by installing/moving/deleting large files (50+ gb), which as simmers is what a lot of us do very pften
if you're unsure what windows version you currently have:
go to settings > system > about (at they very bottom) > and scroll down to see the current OS version
if you do currently have windows 11 24H2:
in settings, click 'Windows update' > 'Update history' > and under 'Quality Updates' check to see if the KB5063878 update is in the list of recently installed updates
don't panic, you can uninstall this update!
while in 'Update History', scroll to the very bottom and click 'Uninstall updates', and click 'Uninstall' for 'Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5063878)'
from there, give it some time to remove the update and after pause updates for as long as possible (5 weeks is the longest i think), but it will force an update if there's a big/official update for the fix
if you've already been affected and your computer is not starting or giving errors regarding your hard drive, i recommend visiting small pc repair shops to try data recovery as some have reported placing their SSD in an enclosure seems to work to recover the data
hopefully this is helpful is any kind of way! friendly reminder to back up your data to an external drive routinely!
I hate when I say things like "oh I want an ipod classic but with bluetooth so I can use wireless headphones" and some peanut comes in and replies with "so a smartphone with spotify?" No. I want a 160GB+ rectangular monstrosity where I can download every version of every song I want to it and it does nothing except play music and I don't need a data connection and don't have to pay a subscription to not have ads and don't have popups suggesting terrible AI playlists all over the menus.
Gimme the clicky wheel and song titles like "My Chemical Romance- The Black Parade- Blood (Bonus Track)- secret track- album rip- high quality"
Say what you mean as kindly and clearly as possible.
You might have the urge to hint at what you want instead of saying it outright.
You might want to withdraw and hope someone notices. Or perhaps to act cold or upset and hope they’ll ask what’s wrong. This is testing if they care by making them guess, and it isn't really fair. To you or to them.
You deserve to ask for what you need.
Not through guilt, not through silence, not through passive aggression.
Those behaviors aren’t necessarily “bad” but they’re often survival responses we picked up along the way.
They don’t build the kind of connection we actually want. And they can damage our relationships.
Being direct can feel terrifying.
It can feel like rejection is guaranteed the moment we ask.
But healthy communication means giving people a real chance to show up for us and giving ourselves a chance to be heard.
You don’t have to be perfect at it.
Here are some examples:
“I feel off today and could use some support.”
“I’m feeling lonely. Can I call you?”
“I’m feeling insecure. Can you give me some reassurance?
You are allowed to speak clearly.
You are allowed to ask.
You are allowed to be understood.
You deserve to have your needs met. And your loved ones deserve to not have to guess at it.
The evacuation prep poster is done! This poster is designed primarily with wildfires in mind, but the tips can apply to preparing for any much any disaster.

[[Image ID: A poster including a layered graphic showing what items to have ready to prepare for evacuating your home based on how much warning you have that you need to evacuate. The inner, red, level is labeled “No Warning.” The next, orange, level is labeled “Less Than an Hour.” The next, yellow, level is labeled “More Than an Hour.” The final, green, level is labeled “General Preparedness.” The items associated with each level and the text are included below. /end ID.]]

Evacuation Prep:
As the world changes, it is important to be prepared to safely and efficiently evacuate your home, potentially with little or no warning. Preparing ahead of time can help to reduce stress and anxiety, and help you evacuate safely if the time comes.
Red Level (No Warning): People | Pets | Keys. Human life matters most. If you can’t rescue your pets, let them out to give them their best chance. If evacuating by car, don’t forget your keys.
Orange Level (Less Than an Hour): Crucial Meds | Important Papers | Money | Paper Map | Pet Vaccination Records. Crucial meds and medical equipment. Papers including passports, birth certificates, medical records, etc.. Multiple forms of payment. Paper map with marked evac routes in case of signal loss. Phone. Most evac centers require vaccine records for pets to be allowed in.
Yellow Level (More Than an Hour): Photos | Hard Drives | Computers | Chargers | Irreplaceable Items | OTC Meds | Pet Supplies | Pet Food | Clothes | Weather Gear. Family photos. Hard drives and computers. Make digital backups ahead of time. Charging cords. Irreplaceable items such as collectibles and mementos. Over the counter medical supplies such as Aspirin and tampons. Pet supplies such as bowls, crates, toys, and litter. Pet food and treats. Clothes. If you are running out of time grab your laundry basket. Weather gear if needed.
Green Level (General Preparedness): Food | Water | Radio | N95 Masks | Multitool | Power Pack | Gas | Stove + Fuel | Flashlight | Toiletries | Emergency Contact Info | Bedding | First Aid | Can Opener. Easy prep, shelf-stable food. Water. Battery powered/rechargeable NOAA weather radio. N95 masks for smoke. A multitool. Rechargeable power pack for phones. Keep your car at least partially fueled at all times. Portable stove and fuel for cooking food without power. Flashlight and spare batteries. Toiletries including hair products, toothbrush and paste, etc.. Emergency contact info for friends and loved ones. Spare pillows and blankets. Dedicated first aid kit. Can opener.
Save yourself time and stress by preparing an evacuation bag ahead of time and keep it in an easy to access place. At the end of every season rotate out the perishable items within such as food, water, and medications. The more you can keep in the bag, the more time you’ll have to grab everything else. Remember, it is okay if you can’t do everything. Some preparation is better than no preparation.
If you are in the U.S.A. and experiencing disaster related anxiety call the Disaster Distress Hotline at 1-800-985-5990 for support and resources.

Here’s a couple actual links to concrete things you can do to help, as determined by the American Library Association, who already stopped this maniac from doing this once. There are many smart & experienced people fighting for libraries & museums, but they need your help too.
This link allows you to send your personal library story directly to Congress: https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edit?promo_id=23577
And this is a straightforward petition you can sign in about a minute: https://action.everylibrary.org/eoimls2025
And if you want an easy way to contact your Congresscritters directly, text 50409 or search for ResistBot on Telegram to email, call or fax you Congresscritters. Libraries support democracy & are the last free reliably available 3rd Space in America. This is absolutely an emergency as serious as any of the other major institutional destructions so far this year.
In a new executive order, President Trump has targeted the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the federal agency charged with
