Mob mentality is extremely strong in humans and itās also extremely dangerous. Mobs donāt think things through. Mobs kill and they destroy and they canāt be reasoned with. Someone trying to calm a mob down isnāt someone defending the ~problematic party~ Itās time we re-learn that.

people who donāt watch horror movies are SO confident that they know everything there is to know about the genre. like itās okay to not know things. itās okay if you donāt like friday the 13th or whatever. i promise you donāt need to make an ass out of yourself on the internet about it
horror is an incredibly diverse genre, because there is potential horror in everything. itās in nature, itās in architecture and technology, itās in human relationships, itās in folklore, the past, the future, the mundane. there are horror movies from all over the world. it is straight up anti-intellectual to pretend that the handful of B slashers youāve vaguely heard about comprise the totality of what horror has to offer.Ā If youāre just not interested in horror, or if you dislike certain subgenres of horror, then thatās fine, youāre not obligated to like anything at all. but smugly announcing that you donāt like horror because you dislike a handful of VERY specific non-universal tropes is just as stupid as saying that you hate comedy because you donāt like adam sandler movies.

Okay, I gotta say this nuance aloud, though maybe everyone already understood it.
When people discuss the importance of using things, such as special plates, candles, special clothes- they will say that it's best to use them all the time, and that this makes each day special or something like that.
Which is only part of the picture if you ask me.
It's good not to hoard things forever, but if you use everything all the time, it also leaves certain special times as kind of indistinct from anything else. Like having a Christmas tree up all year kind of takes something away from it.
So here's my rephrasing: special things should have a concrete time of use, not an abstract one.
If you have an outfit you love but have it dedicated to only wear once a year on a specific day? Totally fine! You are using it, and it is contributing something to your life.
If you have plates that you'll only use 'for a special occasion' but haven't touched them in years? Evidently you don't know how to recognize a special occasion and should try and think of more specific qualifiers.
Some nice things make every day special, and others make certain times unique. It doesn't have to be one or the other, there's also joy in restraint. You just have to make sure perfectionism isn't slipping into how you use the ones that are only for some of the time.
i understand that it's unreasonable to expect a band on world tour to play in every country in the world but i do think they should only be allowed to call it a world tour if they play in every continent. we need to make it embarrassing to say world tour and then not even step foot in africa
Mice in your home now get their own doors
A door is one of the things that makes a building unlike any other structure. All the doors in buildings are intended for human use, no matter which species actually enter and exit. We want to keep encouraging cross-species interactions, and give the smallest members of our communities the recognition they deserve.
Soon, you'll be able to see, smell, and hear the mice in your home, and they will be able to see, smell, and hear you in return. Each mouse will have its own door, instead of one large door intended to accommodate all visitors. And yes, you'll be able to welcome multiple mice through a single door.
If a door falls into disuse due to illness, injury, or death, another mouse will be placed into your home. You won't lose mice just because they die.
Past mice will stay in your home-- including corpses. Removing all of those would be... a lot.
This is just the beginning. More changes are coming as we keep building this out - stay tuned!

The fact that tech companies are allowed to act the way they do is so baffling compared to literally any other business model ever. Like, imagine if you went to the grocery store but every time you reached for an item, an employee rushed out of nowhere and snapped a rat trap on your fingers. And when you got to the counter, they proudly informed you that for just $12.99 a month, you too could get the rat trap-free grocery store experience. Shouldn't I have that anyway? Or they just looked at you like you had three heads and told you to shop at another store if you didn't like the rat traps breaking your fingers. Am I crazy?
And then you ask a buddy to go with you to the store with the sole purpose of simply blocking this guy. And the store then tries to lock the door in your face, claiming that this violates their company policy and that preventing it counts as stealing.
