look I'm a disability studies scholar so I know why people are like this. but. people really do get so pressed about the dumbest shit. why do you care if someone has multiple people in their head? why do you care if someone is existing with a mobility aid in your line of sight? why do you care if someone takes a couple extra seconds to formulate a sentence? even if you don't believe that someone is legitimately disabled (which is bad on its own. but still). what do you lose by just taking people at face value? and what do you gain by living life as an angry little ass all the time?
Why do we say “slept like a baby” when babies literally wake up screaming every two hours?
I want to sleep like a middle-aged dad who “rests his eyes” during a Marvel movie and wakes up refreshed, confused, and ready to barbecue.
i have turned it into a letterboxd list: good films that are free on the internet archive!!!! Each film is linked in the notes on letterboxd. this will be continually updated so it's a good link to save if you want to keep up!
Hey how come the truck automatically locks when it explodes and bursts into flames
hey how come elon musk can remotely unlock any tesla vehicle
He ly how come elon musk has access to security footage of you charging your car
do not, under any circumstances, buy a fucking tesla
i'm kinda shocked people don't already know that every car made in the last ~10 years has some form of remote control accessible to the manufacturer. any car with "remote start" functionality can be accessed by the manufacturer if they really wanted to. the "call for assistance" / SOS / "emergency assistance" button that's built into most cars now also depends on this. i've been in a few situations where myself or the driver has had to call somebody to remote start a car or open its doors... that's how this works.
and if you don't opt-in to use those features in your car (i don't pay for the emergency assistance button since it's a costly subscription), that doesn't mean the possibility of such connectivity goes away. it's just not enabled, but they can still use it if they really wanted to (or likely if law enforcement came at them with a court order).
tesla, of all companies, being an emulation of a tech company, would by far have the most advanced controls here. whenever you're trying out the automated driving features, the in-car camera is watching you. it's using eye tracking software, but undoubtedly that could be viewed by tesla if they really wanted to. if you're not opted out of "data sharing", they are for-sure sending that video data somewhere, if only for future eye tracking training and debugging software updates.
but i'm glad that maybe stories like this will wake more people up to the fact that every device that could be connected to something probably is, and if the hardware is there to do it, then it's possible a corporation and/or government and/or hacker could access it without your knowledge or consent. this is just reality now.
You have to get up pretty early in the morning to lead your gift horse across that burnt bridge but you can’t make a watched horse eat all your cans of worms in one basket
Adderall Happens When I Say So
Today I learned that there’s a specific opening strategy in chess called the Frankenstein–Dracula Variation. I’m not going anywhere with this – I just wanted to share that information.

Every year The Internet Archive hosts a competion to make art using newly public domain materials, and I've been losing my mind at this submission:

Straight man: *says insanely misogynist shit*
The tolerant left: are you gay? I bet you are gay. I bet you like men. I bet you like sucking cock and taking it up the ass.
*puts on hero cape* actually I would have no problem fucking that woman. This misogynist homo says she has no value because he wouldn't fuck her. But I would.
i should figure out how to homebrew white monster actually

Belted Kingfisher I know you don’t care but you mean everything to me girl
For anyone who doesn’t know, the Belted Kingfisher is one of the only birds with sexual dimorphism where the species is named after the female bird’s plumage instead of the male’s. The female of the species sports that cool rust-colored belt while a male’s belly is plain.
This is a huge thing in birds where males get the vast majority of the attention since they often have more visually striking plumage. I personally think the female red-winged blackbird is the most commonly misidentified bird in North America because of this problem.
A side effect of this phenomenon is that a lot of the time bird art depicts only males, so I LOVE when I get to see belted kingfisher art and be like omg it’s her!!!
