I think that eventually I lost interest in writing post apocalypse stories when I realized that we’re living in the aftermath of hundreds if not thousands of apocalypses both small and large.
What do people act like in the apocalypse? Well, they act like people. The post-apocalypse is an ongoing reality.
The great dying in the Americas after old world diseases were introduced, the Black Death, the Bronze Age collapse.
Heck, around 74,000 years ago a volcanic eruption reduced the human population to less than 10,000 individuals. Possibly as few as 3,000.
Every single one of us is descended from the survivors of an apocalyptic event.
And if you think that doesn’t count because it was 74,000 years ago my question is, why? Why does that not count? Why is that devastation so much less devastating than any apocalypse you’ve seen in media?
This right now in this moment we are living through is the ultimate ongoing fate of any post apocalypse. Life. With all of its messiness.
writing is so funny because i could write nonstop for 9hrs and then hit a block where im like "how do i transition between this moment and the next?" and then i just dont touch it for 6 months
Serious advice tho if this happens, it's likely because you already wrote past the end of the scene and wandered too far from the more logical transition point, and you should go back to the last time the writing felt "unforced" and cut everything after.
You can also just skip the transition. Really good writing can span years in a single sentence, like you can just authoritatively state fact and your reader will go with it.
This is GOLD! You just saved me like thousands of therapy costs lmao
When I was writing my fic last few months the strategy I used was "just skip all the scenes I don't want to write" and it worked great in my opinion
yeah yeah rainbow capitalism is bad and whatever but like. when I was a child, being pro gay was not the popular or lucrative choice. I'm happy that times have changed.
I miss rainbow capitalism. I do. I miss when it felt like public opinion was still pro gay. I understand it was always an empty gesture, but it mattered in a sense of knowing how socially acceptable being queer is. If that makes sense.
when a government bans young people from using social media, and then categorises messenger apps like Signal and WhatsApp as "social media", they are pushing those young people toward using text messages, a fundamentally insecure form of communication. texts are not encrypted in transit and can be read by both the sender's mobile carrier and the recipient's. that also means they can be leaked in data breaches, subpoenaed, or just handed over willingly to law enforcement at the carriers' discretion.
hmm. I wonder why governments might want this
i once again want to say that hulu used to be entirely free with ads, and if you watched two minutes worth of commercials at the start of an episode the next 24 hours would be commercial-free. and now you pay $11.99 per month to watch things with commercials. what the fuck are we doing and how did we allow this to happen lol.
don’t worry about it
me getting silly in the pussy if im being honest ?
could you lie
So I follow N. D. Stevenson (comics writer and animator, most famous for Nimona and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) and his husband Lee Ostertag (also a comics writer and animator) on Instagram. When I started following them, they were both publicly presenting as women, and then a few years ago N. D. came out as transmasc nonbinary, and then earlier this year Lee also came out as transmasc. Anyway this is all setup to say that Lee had the chance to make the funniest post of all time and he took it:
Absolutely iconic.
I want to throw in that part of the context behind this meme was N.D. talking about how he sometimes gets hatemail for marrying a man as a former lesbian, and how many people seem to think he divorced his wife.
I have not managed to find anyone who thinks that in the wild, but it is so damn funny.
[ID: a Bluesky thread between ND Stevenson and Lee Ostertag. Stevenson's original post reads, "Latest strain of out-of-touch Instagram comment has been ugh of COURSE you'd end up with a man and like, TAKE IT UP WITH HIM HE'S THE ONE WHO DECIDED TO TURN INTO ONE". Ostertag's reply reads, "Omg are they saying I pass 💅 ". Stevenson's response reads, "LEE HELP YOURE DOING TOO GOOD A JOB THEY THINK I DUMPED MY WIFE FOR YOU". /end ID]
The polar opposite of corporate accounts trying to come across as hip and super friendly are the ones for libraries, aquariums, parks systems and the like, that are basically just trying to get people excited about learning and the wonder of history/science by posting things like this:
You know how much I would lose my mind if I was at an aquarium and turned a corner to see a wild ass heron staring at a fish tank
one of my friends started going on dates with her mailman but he cut things off and now it's like a situation where she's seeing her "ex" (lack of better term) like every day because he's her mailman
don't date your coworkers = normal advice
don't date your mailman = we need to work on this one
this lettuce smells like dog

I apologize to everyone whose grammar I ever corrected before I learned not to be a tool.
your forgiven.
You’re… really sweet to do that. Thanks.
