One thing the has always made me angry is how racist Allura is. I understand that the galra have chased her down, waged war on her people, killed her father, killed her entire race and destroyed her planet. And honestly, who wouldn't be devastated by that, and of course while you're grieving you're gonna blame someone. And of course she's gonna be outraged at them for the destruction of her planet and everything else. But I have evidence to prove that her prejudice is more than just grief or anger. #1 Kieth- As we all well remember, back when it was revealed that Kieth was part galra Allura began to treat him differently. She treated him coldly and with contempt and tried to have as little to do with him as possible. Meanwhile, not only was Kieth clearly not even aware of the galras' existence before joining team Voltron, but he was confined to earth for the short amount of time he was there (he wasn't even born when Altea was destroyed) so there was no possible way he could have been involved with the galra previously. And yet, even though she later apologizes, she still treats him this way for qutie some time. #2 The Blade of Marmora- it is, of course, reasonable for Allura to distrust the Blade of Marmora in the beginning. They are, in fact galra and her father had been betrayed by a galra once, and we all know how that turned out, so there is reason that she be suspicious of them, even Coran is cautious at first. But Allura also said that she would refuse the help of any galra who was trying to stop Zarkon. This is beyond simple unease and distrust, and we see that with the way she treats Coliban and the other blades at first. She makes it quite clear, very quickly that she doesn't like them, before even giving them a chance to prove themseleves. 3# Coran- I'd like to point out that Coran has endured all of them same exact pain that Allura has gone through. He lost everything with the destruction of Altea as well, and even admitted that when he had heard the news he had never felt more alone than he did at that moment. However, there is a big difference in how Allura treats galra, and how Coran treat galra. Coran is aware of the fact that galra, such as the blades could very well just be a trap set up by Zarkon, and he is sure to consider this when he makes his decisions and states his opinions. However, while Coran shows concern and suspicion, he does NOT show any type of hatred towards them. He is able understand that they aren't Zarkon, and that the destruction of Altea is not their fault and is at least willing to give them a chance, unlike Allura, Coran can separate his feelings from his judgments of people. #4 The Other Reality's Alteans- In season 3, when the paladins go into the dimension parallel to theirs, and they discover living Alteans is when Allura's racisim shines brighter than ever. She becomes so caught up in the fact that they're living Alteans that she almost doesn't realize that they're robbing people of their freedom. And all the while she's trying to defend it simply because they're Alteans. It's clear that not only are the Alteans evil, but that Allura has no legitimate argument to defend them because of the fact that they're evil. While of course it is true that she does end up doing the right thing in the end, it's not until after she gets a whole view of what the Alteans in that dimension are that she fights them. She was desperately holding on to the idea that those Alteans are good, while in reality they weren't good people at all. But she was looking for something, anything to be able to claim that they were good ONLY because they're Alteans. So she throws the galra away like trash without even giving them a chance, but you stay as long as you possibly can for the Alteans simply because they're Altean. That's then DEFINITION of racisim.
