Headcanon A: realisticRuth’s an only child, and her parents are a bit older than usual. There’s something about the way Ruth struggles to make friends straight away and her earnestness that makes me doubt she has siblings somehow. I also got the feeling she only had the one grandparent growing up (the grandad she talks about with Sheila), which made me wonder if maybe she was a later-in-life baby for her folks, perhaps even one they struggled to have for a long while. I get the feeling Ruth was used to being so loved, even adored, and that is what continues to power her through the constant rejection and downright abuse she’s experienced since moving to LA.  Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilariousVideo footage of “extensive mask work and clowning workshops” exists and will one day resurface in a similar vein to Sam’s dating video. Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friendsRuth really does struggle to make friends and build relationships with people. She’s kind and funny, but her intensity and obsessive focus on things has put most people off over the years. She loved high school, but isn’t in touch with any of her classmates, only former teachers. Debbie, and now the GLOW cast and Sam, are genuinely her only real friends. Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.

Ruth makes it in the end, either as an actress on an unconventional but worthy serial show or as an award winning writer-director…
