If your system doesn't account for the fact that Parents Are Going To Be Abusive/Neglectful/Insufficient then it objectively sucks I'm sorry I don't make the rules
Monitored bank accounts for those under 18. Requiring parental consent for medical procedures. Parental controls on personal devices. "We won't teach this at school because parents are supposed to address it at home." Anything that puts all of the child's power onto the parents' hand, anything that assumes parents are going to inherently do enough of a good job no one else needs to interfer, every single one of these IS going to be used by controlling, neglectful or unprepared parents and already are, and if the system did not account for that very real, tangible, dangerous tendency, then it's not worth fucking anything. You shouldn't make things "for the youth"/with children in mind if you are going to overlook this painfully common aspect of their lives u_u

Hey do y’all remember when Boeing fucking killed a guy last year. And we all said “huh I guess Boeing fucking killed a guy” and then went on with our lives. And everybody knew that Boeing had fully just fucking executed a guy and nothing came of it. Like there was no police investigation no justice no nothing. Like literally EVERYBODY knew that Boeing had full on murdered a guy to silence him and there wasn’t any consequences for them. Kinda crazy.
and there was even less talk when openai did the exact same thing more recently
So for those who are, very understandably uninitiated on this story:
On 23 October last year (2024) the New York Times published an interview with former OpenAI researcher Suchir Balaji who worked on organising and gathering data for OpenAI until 2022 when he begun thinking about the morality of it. He eventually came to the conclusion that what OpenAI is doing blatantly violates copyright law and decided to leave the company altogether in August 2024.
After he came out with this accusation he was set to appear in court to testify against OpenAI’s data-gathering practices, something which had the potential of being a complete disaster for the company and the generative AI industry as a whole.
That was until 26 November, just days before he was due to appear in court, when he suddenly and mysteriously was found dead inside his own apartment. Investigators concluded that the death was self-inflicted, something which his family has disputed.
There was also “sign of struggle in the bathroom and looks like someone hit him in the bathroom based on blood spots”, and his apartment showed signs of having been ransacked for evidence: “The pin drive is missing. His computer was messed up.”.
Overall it feels pretty clear-cut what happened, that is to say that OpenAI had him killed because he was a legitimate threat to their business, indicating that they are fully aware that the way they’re gathering data is completely illegal.

im sorry what?
Got some fun screenshots in DAI last night and I fear it's inspired me to write smut about it.
Ehehehehehehe 🖤🖤🖤
A "matching statue" @blackwallmancer and I commissioned, and now I'm painting 🥰
I said I was gonna crochet myself the Blackwall ami I deserve, and by the Maker, I did. He's 18"/46cm tall, freehanded, took way more hours to make than I've ever put into a single project before, and I'm absolutely in love with how he came out. Crochet with needle felted details and some chalk pastels for adding color to his cheeks etc. Alt text in first image with more info.

The whole of In Hushed Whispers is very emotional - in particular I love having Solas and Blackwall together in this quest. It's partly to do with me just loving these two companions, but it's mostly that I love Solas and Blackwall recognizing in each other traumatized soldiers carrying secrets and shame - they are so reflective of each other. I enjoy their journey together and their banter quite a lot.
But this moment In Hushed Whispers - that look the two companions share, whoever they are, when it's time to lay down their life to ensure that the Inquisitor and Dorian can get back and undo it all - for me, having Blackwall and Solas exchange that look gives me chills. Two old soldiers who have done some things and who have seen some things - just communicating everything they need to in that one look. Two veterans choosing to do the only thing left to them in that moment, to defend the possibility of a different outcome. These two who made horrible choices that altered their lives, altered them - maybe this time their actions can make a change for the better. Two veterans choosing to die at each other's side for that chance.
I love these two.
