the "we're all just playing with ken dolls here and theres no wrong way to do it" thing in fandoms during the rise of anti-intellectualism really sucks to see. can there please be room to use our brains and engage with art earnestly? can we care about canon and its intentions? can we stop ripping characters and stories away from their sociopolitical contexts to squeeze into self indulgent projection without acknowledging that's what we're doing? can we not reduce spaces that were formed by people looking for a deeper exploration of source material to just "playing dolls"?

and sorry but it's completely ridiculous to pretend that every way of engaging with art, literature, film, etc is equally "valid" and i hope i don't have to explain why that is
