More witch!Eddie thoughts.
Frank the opossum has a nest in the top right corner of Eddie's barely there closet. It's carefully constructed of a pillow case, several old Christmas themed dish towels and the shredded remains of a Lynyrd Skynyrd T-shirt. Eddie has no idea where the shirt came from, only that Frank seemed to take great glee in tearing it to pieces and placing each strip carefully in his nest.
Frank also keeps a number of treasures he's no doubt pilfered from unsuspecting victims which he protects like a rotund little dragon. Spoons, shiny rocks, change, whatever catches his fancy.
The first time Wayne and Frank meet ends in a stand off; Wayne brandishing a broom and Frank hissing in the middle of a destroyed box of corn flakes. Luckily Eddie had come home just in time to prevent any real violence.
At first Wayne is thoroughly annoyed but Eddie catches him sneaking Frank snacks and after awhile taking naps together on Wayne's recliner.
Eddie likes to bring his familiar to deals with him. Nobody wants to test the nut job with the pet opossum.
Frank does help with Eddie's magic. His presence grounds Eddie when he practices and he's great at finding ingredients. Eddie's been trying out scrying through his familiar but hasn't quite got the hang of it yet.
he thinks he's being so smooth with his little face on my leg. i SEE you, villain
More of this little AU.
It's not like Steve hasn't seen "monsters" before. His favorite cousin is a minotaur for fucks sake so, like, the monster part is not the issue. Granted when something with large teeth drops unexpectedly from a portal in the ceiling making a tactical retreat isn't the worst idea but even that isn't what freezes his lungs in his chest and sends an icy spike of pure fear down his spine.

Yeah okay Ill reblog that!
Not a scholar at first, but the guy who wrote Jaws hated that people used it to justify hating sharks so much he dedicated the rest of his life to shark research and advocacy.
The woman who popularized gender reveals wishes she hadn't, afaik.
(afaik- the woman who popularized gender reveals did so because she had a long history of miscarriages. The reveal was a celebration of the fact that one of her pregnancies had gotten far enough that there WAS a physical sex to reveal. It was never intended to be like... *gestures at modern gender reveals* all that. That same kid later came out as trans and yes, the family had a second gender reveal for that lol.)
This whole thread is so beautiful to me that I can explain it

L. David Mech, who popularised the idea that there were 'alpha' and 'beta' wolves in his 1970 book The Wolf, has spent the rest of his career trying to debunk this. (The original studies were done on captive wolves, and thus didn't simulate an accurate model of wolf pack dynamics.)
The idea that wolf packs are led by a merciless dictator, or alpha wolf, comes from old studies of captive wolves. In the wild, wolf packs a
In the wild, researchers have found that most wolf packs are simply families, led by a breeding pair, and bloody duels for supremacy are rare.
“What would be the value of calling a human father the alpha male?” says L. David Mech, a senior research scientist at the U.S. Geological Survey, who has studied wolf packs in the wild for decades. “He’s just the father of the family. And that’s exactly the way it is with wolves.”
Steve learns how to crochet mostly to cope with the stress of feeling responsible for the safety and wellbeing of so many kids who never seem to want to listen to him.
The first person to find out about this secret hobby is Robin. His parents stop helping him out financially when they realise he's not just taking a gap year to figure things out and has in fact decided not to go to college. Steve doesn't have the money to get her something fancy for her birthday so he instead buys wool and buttons in her favourite colour and crochets a cardigan. He's never seen someone react so enthusiastically to a present he gave them before and every time he sees her wearing it he feels a surge of pride at the fact that he created something she loves so much.
The second person is Eddie, who complains everyone's ears off about how thin the hospital blankets are and how cold his room is while he's recovering from the demobat attack. Steve crochets a blanket for him. It's basic, black with thin red stripes, and the entire time Steve is wondering why he's even spending so much time making it when Eddie will be discharged before he knows it. He hands it to him one day when he's visiting with Dustin and Robin.
"Oh nice, you bought me a blanket," Eddie says, immediately opening it and spreading it out over his lap.
"Actually I made it," Steve corrects. "I'm still a beginner so it's not the best but it should be pretty warm for-"
Eddie's gaze snaps up from trailing over the intricate little knots of wool.
"You made this?" Eddie asks, his eyes wide.
Steve nods.
"You made this?" he repeats, holding up the corner of the blanket and pointing at it as if it wasn't obvious what he was talking about.
"That's what I just said, yeah," Steve responds.
"Sir Steven Harrington," Eddie grins. "You continue to surprise me. Who knew jocks could knit?"
Steve rolls his eyes and lets out an exasperated huff.
"It's crochet not knitting. And if you don't like it I can-" he reaches to take it back, but Eddie snatches it away in a tight grip, pulling the edge of it to his chest like he's protecting something sacred.
"No way, Big boy." He refuses. "You've bestowed this precious gift upon me and I have accepted it. No takebacks. I will take care of it and protect it with my dying breath." His expression changes to something unsure. "Wait, is it okay for me to keep this or did you want it back when I leave?"
"Please don't talk about your dying breath when you're sitting in a hospital bed after almost bleeding out," Steve chastises, crossing his arms, unimpressed. "And yes you can keep it. I made it for you."
Before he can say anything else, Eddie drags him down into a crushing hug, not giving a shit about the tube attached to his wrist or his fairly recently stitched sides. Dustin later describes the noise Steve made as sounding like a cat having its tail stepped on. Robin points out in a teasing way that it took Steve a suspiciously long time to disengage from that hug, just making a perfectly casual observation.
The next one to get a handmade gift is Dustin. He wouldn't let go of the fact that Steve had made something for both Robin and Eddie before him even though he was supposed to be Steve's best friend. That christmas Steve gifted him a handmade sweater with a lightsaber design on the front, which meant he had to make things for the rest of the teens not long after because of course Dustin went around wearing it and bragging at every possible opportunity.
Soon all the people Steve cared about the most had something made by him.
Then one day Eddie asks him to teach him how to crochet so he can make something for Wayne to show how much he appreciates him. Steve thinks it's a really sweet idea, so he agrees. Eddie found a photo of a sweater he wanted to try and make for him, but he's finding it really tricky even with Steve's help. So in the end, Steve makes the sweater and they both work on a much easier blanket pattern together.
Steve's spending a lot of time in Eddie's room, sitting very close to him and occasionally gently taking hold of his hands to guide him when he gets stuck. This is how he finds out that Eddie still sleeps under that blanket Steve made for him over a year ago. It's also how he ends up making out with him on top of said blanket.
Wayne is so touched when he gets his handmade gifts that Christmas that he cries. Eddie teases him about it until Steve, who's spending his first Christmas with the Munsons as Eddie's boyfriend, reminds Eddie that he practically ripped Steve's hand off at the hospital when he tried to take that first blanket back.
"Yeah, well, it was important to me. You made it." Eddie shrugs. Then he picks up a large, slightly lumpy present and shoves it into his hands. "And you still haven't opened your gift. Less talking, more opening."
After that Steve is the one trying not to cry, because the second he pulls back the wrapping paper, a blanket pours out onto his lap, navy with white stripes. It was clearly made by Eddie because it smells like him, and some of the stitches show mistakes that he made when they were working on Wayne's gifts together.
He gently takes the material into his hands and runs his thumbs over each bump in awe. No one's ever put this much effort into a gift for him before. "I love it," he says, his voice slightly shaky.
"Are you sure?" Eddie replies, self-conscious. "I made a few mistakes, and I ran out of wool at one point, but the store didn't have any left in the same shade of blue so there's a small part at the bottom that looks slightly different. I can get you something else if you want. I know it's not as good as yours."
Steve leans over and shuts him up with a kiss on the lips, something he's learned is extremely effective over the course of their relationship.
"It's perfect."
FINALLY FINISHED !!!
I’ve been at this since like September. Originally the plan was to do five panels but by the time I reached three I realized it was absolutely going to be too heavy. If the back bothers me then I’ll just buy some black fabric and sew it on.
I pinned it excessively since I have been warned the feathers won’t flatten unless blocked aggressively. They still don’t behave themselves 100% but again, if it bothers me I’m willing to steam block it in the future. Super fun before and after pics.
Pattern is of course the feathered wings shawl by my favorite pattern designer craftyintentions.

Someone: are you ok?
Me, internally: the irony of Shakespeare's "my kingdom for a horse" scene makes me sick because it reality Richard III was almost certainly knocked from his horse during the battle of bosworth and that was the catalyst for his death, he was clearly a capable soldier but his scoliosis would have made the weight of his armour much more troublesome to bear than it should have been, and he would have had reduced stamina for fighting on foot. If he had stayed on his horse he would have had a far better chance of staying alive and even winning the battle. And of course it doesn't really matter because the play is only fiction, but hasn't the man suffered enough humiliation without this as well?
Me, out loud: yeah.
Steve DIDN'T get a girlfriend in the epilogue.
Steve DIDN'T find his true love, someone to settle with.
Steve, frankly, DIDN'T even try looking.
But,
Steve DID get a place in Forest Hills.
Steve DID get a van for travelling around.
Steve DID stay at the same highschool where Hellfire used to be held, where Eddie would laugh and jump on the tables during lunch break.
Steve DID spend time with Dustin and his other nuggets, checking up on them whenever he could.
---
Steve, however, didn't get a happy ending. Because his happy ending was Eddie, and Steve was left to look for him in all the little things.
More witch!Eddie brainrot:
Eddie's been practicing smaller charms and spells. He's getting better at control and decides he's ready for something bigger. Flashier. So if course it's time for him to summon a familiar.
Had Wayne warned him against summoning things because quote "You shouldn't going yellin in the dark when you don't know who's listening"?
Yes.
But every good witch needs a cool animal companion right? So this doesn't count.
Plus how metal would it be to roll up in town with a huge wolf at his feet or a raven on his shoulder?
So Eddie heads into the woods draws the circles and does the spell. Except he doesn't end up with a scary looking snake or a wolf. What he ends up with is ...
Frank. A fat, lazy albino opossum that hisses at everyone (except for Steve Harrington which pisses Eddie off to no end), will bite you if you don't share your food with him and steals anything shiny he can get his greedy little paws on.
Needless to say, Eddie absolutely loves him.

Steddie with witch!Eddie and Fae!Steve but they're both kinda bad at it?
Like after Eddie's mom dies, he finds a locked box under her bed. It's one of the few things he's able to save from his dad's drunken rampages. After he moves in with Wayne he finally gets a chance to open it. Inside he finds what he firsts assume are journals but what turn out to be, not only his mother's Grimoire, but a few from his grandmother and a great great uncle as well.
Lonely, awkward thirteen year old is elated to learn magic might be real and tries the first spell he sees, immediately burning off his eyebrows and what little hair was finally growing back from his buzz cut.
So you want to make a basket
This will be a somewhat brief introductory post to flat reed basket weaving, these two patterns are provided. Below are SOME websites you can buy supplies at:
Basketweaving.com
Peerlessratten.com
Thecountryseat.com
Explore these websites, as you learn basket weaving there's different materials you can learn to use and replace others and these websites will often provide the tools you will need too. You can use dyes or stain for flat reed, I have more experience with dyeing which basically involves boiling the color and then dunking the reeds in it.
Flat reed is literally that, flat reeds. Many flat reeds used are commercial but some traditional ones will be made of splints from trees such as Ash or White Oak. They are soaked in water and then shaped and woven into the craft desired.
Source
These patterns will tell you how you will need to cut your reeds. You will need a water source, preferably a tub of some kind, an awl, measuring tool, and a flat workspace.
Tips:
Do not let your flat reeds stay wet for too long! Let it dry in an open air space when you are not working on it or when it is complete, FLAT REED CAN MOLD.
If you soak flat reed for too long it can become mushy and unusable, at the very least if you soak it for extended periods be careful with how you bend it.
Flat reed tends to (not always) have a 'rough' and 'smooth' side, you want the rough side to be on the inside of your basket.
If you're a flat reed has started to split trim it as close to the split as you can as quickly as you can or it spreads.
Starting is the most difficult part and no basket will look like the end result in the beginning. Getting overwhelmed is normal, come back to it, these are not projects you do in one sitting.
If I can I'm going to see about getting better scans of these and possibly uploading a step-by-step post. These websites provided also often have more basket weaving patterns and even kits.
