when people defend the “Cis white guy is default” thing like “He’s meant to be an everyman we can all relate to and project on!” kindly remind them the largest ethnic group in the WORLD is Han Chinese and the highest gender percentage fluctuates so if you want an ACTUAL “default” you want a 40 year old chinese person whose gender changes from year to year.
#give us the middle-aged gender fluid Chinese protagonist that we can all relate to and project on (via @mr-and-mr-pavus)
i think there is a statue of grace. on the campus of the university where he got his phd. it's a big base, like the statue atop it is going to be a larger than life hero standing brave. but instead it is him, life size, sitting with his feet dangling off the edge and turned slightly to the side like he is in conversation.
there is room to sit next to him. students like to hop up and sit next to dr. grace to get advice, vent, just take a minute. he's a friend to all on campus
Grace insisted on putting Carl's name on the most important paper of the century 🎉
“Leonard Nimoy, who played the most famous TV scientist of all time, Mr. Spock, came from an arts and theater background and in real life is nothing like his character. Yet he told me that because Mr. Spock and “Star Trek” have inspired so many young viewers to become scientists, researchers who meet him are always desperate to give him lab tours and explain the projects they’re pursuing in peer-to-peer terms. Mr. Nimoy nods sagely and intones to each one, ‘Well, it certainly looks like you’re headed in the right direction.’”
— NYT (via gq)
Which could mean nothing.
[ID: cropped text from an article. The text reads: Later, Shatner spoke about co-star Nimoy—famous for his role as the titular "Star Trek" character Spock. "Had he been a girl, I would have married him," Shatner said. /end ID]
This is a real quote. It's from the article below:

sorry if i weirded you out with my messages earlier (remembers im trying to be more self confident) but actually it was normal of me to do so (becomes nervous im acting superior) because i am a human like everybody else and not better than anyone (remembers i am better than some people) except for really bad people (notices the ideological can of worms opened by previous clause) but anyone can work towards self improvement (remembers im trying to be more self confident) like meeee :)
hey fiberking. do you have any meal suggestions for fiber beginners? (fiberginners) ive heard there are two kinds of fiber but i never hear which is which or which is better for you or what. i want to eat more fiber but i dont want to just pound almonds all day so if you have any sage advice for noobs id love it. thanks
don't worry about the types of fiber, just focus on little sustainable changes.
if you use bread for anything like sandwiches or toast, then start trying out high fiber kinds and see what tastes good. if you drink milk, try subbing in oat milk, it's got a little fiber in it. snack bars with high fiber can be a nice blood sugar pick-me-up during the day (i'm prediabetic!!!) and they definitely do make a difference even if you just have 1 per day.
if you're willing to fibermax for 1 meal a day, make it breakfast. they make this shit so easy with high fiber labeled cereals, then you add some tasty granola on that, sprinkle with chia seeds, and you can easily get 10g or more that way. then forget about fiber intake for the rest of the day. seriously. you're already ahead. you're winning.
on the nut front, something i do is i have a daily yogurt and i stir in trail mix. it makes everything taste better than just trying to eat plain nuts - and i do go for the kind with chocolates in it!! if dietary changes feel like a chore and they're unappealing, they won't stick!! i look forward to all of the food that i eat. when i have oatmeal, i add honey and cinnamon and sometimes dark chocolate. when i cook broccoli or brussel sprouts, i'm stir frying them in oil and good sauces.
saying this with so much seriousity...adding fiber to your diet can be delicious and genuinely easy. you do not have to revamp your entire fridge. you do not need to buy powders or supplements or giant tubs of bullshit that you dread adding to your drinks. start with 1 high fiber habit, MAKE SURE YOU ENJOY IT, and do that for 2 weeks. add another. etc.
good luck on your fiber journey. i love you.
Patient on the Pitt: wahhh my feet hurt
Doctor: no problem sir we'll stitch you up. Get me 100ccs of lorazepam stat and intubate. Oh no, why isn't this working? His feet are still in danger!
*uncovers sheets to reveal hooves*
Other Doctor Who Is More Woke: those are his hooves you bitch. Prep 10000ml of Ketamine.
First Doctor: damn. I was wrong and it almost cost this poor patient his life.
Second Doctor: 90% of all patients are secretly horses and anti-horse bias kills thousands every year. As Doctors we need to check our prejudices, and you can read more about this on www.somepatientsarehorses.com

Second day on pediatrics, I’ve been interacting with this 13-year-old boy for five minutes and he hits me with the “You remind me of The Good Doctor”
Need music recs! Looking for songs that make you feel a pit in your stomach, uncomfortable or unwelcoming or just weird ass feelings. Any recs? Any language, any genre, any anything!
In rank order of subjective uneasiness:
The Woods by Sam Fermin
Goodbye to a World by Porter Robinson
Sunshine (Blood Sun Empire) by Red Cain [big fan of their first two proper albums Kindred Act I and II]
Through the Cellar Door by Lanterns on the Lake
Fragments cover by Blondie [original song is by An Unkindness and is great by its own merits but if you’re looking for unease go with the cover!]
Five lashes be owed, I believe it is.
