The Old Crone's Club by Jennifer Taylor-Gray
I found this book on booktok. Who would have thought, right? But I was immediately drawn to the cover. It is such peak graphic design, and I instantly wanted to read the book. And I paid extra just to have it physically. I just knew I wanted to have that beauty in my hands.
I really loved this book from the beginning to the end. I love dark and twisted fairytales where it isn't all just sunshine and rainbows and D*sney. So, this whole story was made perfectly for me.
I loved all four main characters. They were all unique with amazingly well written inner voices and distinct personalities, values and background stories. Some of them (most) were devastating.
Maybe my empathy levels were just on an all time high, but the author did such an incredible job at conveying the emotions and feeling of the main characters. Especially Tibby. I was genuinely upset at how she was treated at the detention centre.
It was also a lot of fun guessing which fairy tale each of our main ladies were inspired from. For some I got it right away with name clues but some it took me a bit longer. Tibby, again, stood out from the rest because I didn't even expect her to have fairy tale origins so that was a big surprise.
My favourite character was Octavia. She reminded me a lot of Stella from Winx Club. I feel like both their personalities, stories, and characters arcs were quite similar and that's what made me love Octavia a lot. The scene with Octavia and Alba in the in-between world was also my favourite as I also had a similar thing happen to me (not nearly dying but the conversation lmao).
Overall, this was such a good, cosy, and inspirational read and I hope everyone reads this.

A Gathering of Shadows by V. E. Schwab
I hear people talk about the 'second book syndrome' or something, claiming that a lot of times the second book in a trilogy was unnecessary and the trilogy would have been better off as a duology. Well guess what? That's not the case here. This is my favourite from the trilogy so far.
I loved everything about this book. Even the parts that upset me. I loved the tournament idea. It reminded me so much of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon from 2003 where the turtles entered an area battle tournament too.
The whole book was filled with suspense and questions, that I desperately needed answers to. Will Kell manage to get through the whole tournament without being found out. Will Lila get found out? Will they fight each other? Will they recognise each other, under their masks? Will Kell and Alucard fight? What's with this one sided beef Kell has with Alucard? Will Rhy be okay?
The best thing about the book though, was Kell and Lila's yearning for each other. You couldn't go a chapter without one thinking of the other. They needed each other. I also didn't know if it was platonic yearning or romantic yearning but I honestly didn't care, I was just enjoying the ride.
But OH the drama when they all finally made it to one room. That one page of the book was so juicy and filled with tea, ready to be spilt. Kell wanting to kill Alucard, Alucard not giving a fuck, Lila trying to figure out what's going on and then Rhy comes in all nonchalant NOT reading the room. It was my favourite part of the book.
The end of the book proper pissed me off though (in a good way). The tournament was over, Alucard won, everyone was happy, I was happy and then ... the last 20 pages happened. Dear lord. First of all, Kell. Fucking stupid.
But what pissed me off the most was the way King Maxim and Queen Emira treated Kell. 'You're part of the family, Kell' 'You're our son Kell' 'Oh, but don't forget Kell, we don't care about you at all, you're only here to protect Rhy' like piss off, anoying twats.
Anyway, i loved this book a lot.
I got tagged by both @annieslytherpuff21 and @badassbiburgerbob for this meme which means I get to do 10 songs instead, right?? Thanks for thinking of me :D

The Raven Boys: The Graphic Novel by Maggie Stiefvater, adapted by Stephanie Williams, illustrated by Sas Milledge
I was sooooo excited when I learnt about this coming out! I couldn't wait. I even 'hired' my friend who lives in the US to get me the Target exclusive sprayed edge version of the novel.
When I was reading the original novel, all I wanted was to actually see with my real eyes, instead of just imagining the events of the book in my head (even thought that itself is very magical). I fantasised about a TV show maybe, but at the same time I didn't want the story to get butchered.
So, this graphic novel was actually perfect. The images were drawn so beautifully, and the colours were chosen so perfectly. The colour choices were truly my favourite part of the book. Each scene had a distinct colour palette that complimented the environment around it, which was so lovely to see.
It took me way to long to get through this book, considering basically a picture book but, as I said, the art was simply brilliant, and I couldn't help but closely examine every single frame.
“We are all trapped here, our stories already written.”
Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
I went into this story with interest and intrigue. I grew up reading the Grim Brothers' Cinderella fairytale, so I was excited to find out, how the author was going to implement all the key points into the novel.
I thought the idea of Sophia not wanting to go to the dance was good. It must drive one crazy to be the only one who thinks differently, so I was excited when she met Luke (or was hi name Lucas? I don't remember) and found out he didn't agree with the Kingdom's rules either. Unfortunately, Luke was taken away pretty early into the story and didn't show up again until the end.
I feel like Sophia fell for Constance way too quickly. at the beginning of the book, she could not stop thinking about Erin. Erin this. Erin that. but as soon as she sees a beautiful ginger, called Constance (wharra stupid name by the way) she's in love with her. Erin who? I mean, I don’t blame her. a pretty girl is a pretty girl, but come on, now.
She saw Erin in town centre one more time and remembered she existed but then as soon as they're gone it's out of sight out of mind. How about you make up your mind?
I do have to say, while Sophia and Constance were in the witch's cottage having a little chat, they were kinda cute.
I liked the twist of all the kings over the centuries being the same person who just doesn't die. It raised the stakes a little, knowing the villain was some weird immortal monster.
The fucking witch being on king Manford's side the whole time was a twist. I thought I had the end of the book figured out but some crazy plots you just can't predict. But as much as I didn't see it coming, I unfortunately wasn't gagged. How many pieces of media are there in the world where the old wise lady that conveniently knows everything about a villain is said villain's mother. Ideally Constance would have been the one to finish off the king, to avenge her family and their long-suffering history, but alas.
I love when platonic love and romantic love is so blurred that it doesn’t even matter anymore. All that matters is the devotion that’s there, the unwavering devotion
kell would crumble if he found out lila and emery kissed lmaoooo
help why does it say whenenever
