I was trying to make the opener happy. I was trying to give it purpose.

The Vampire Lestat 3.03 backstage pass
watching interview with the vampire s3 as a louistat shipper is very hard for me because on the one hand i know lestat's relationships with nicki \ armand \ gabby are super important to him and should get screen time and i am honestly really enjoying them but on the other hand i'm like don't care give me my louistat lestat never loved anyone except louis the 55000 days he lived before meeting him were miserable loveless and empty

i will be really surprised if i-an and the queen have romantic past like some people speculate. he genuinely seems to despise her & is disgusted by her behavior. he knows she baby-trapped his brother & changed his will... idk i just feel like i-an would recognize the kind of person she was from the start.
ok so i haven't read the princess agents novel, but i understand the character of CQ was like a cop from modern times, and it makes so much sense for her character?? her modern values of opposing slavery and social hierarchy would've made perfect sense & her crazy fight skills would also make sense instead of the weird tattoo ice-bending situation they had going on that was never fully explained.
why would they chose to not adapt her OG story from the novel? i don't get it.
i saw a post saying that Qi Min is similar to book accurate tantai jin and yes. absolutely. not quite as unhinged (no one is unhinged as book TTJ) but def same vibes! especially in the scene where he kills his nanny.
thoughts on "pursuit of jade"
i've recently watched pursuit of jade, and i have some thoughts.
the first half of the show where XZ pretends to be a commoner is literally perfect. the leads had INSANE chemistry and i loved all of the Lin'an cast. 10\10. the problems for me started when XZ left.
Fan Changyu being able to easily defeat the younger sui brother bothered me. because taking out a couple of untrained men - like she did before - makes perfect sense, but sui is supposed to be this general, who had better training and a lot more fighting experience then FCY. i love it when my FL can kick ass, but not when she is overpowered to the point where it doesn't make sense.
also the fact that she starts killing people after the Lin'an massacre isn't addressed at all. by anyone.
how is sui killing everyone in lia'an is not the same as XZ massacring an entire city to avenge his dad? i'm sure there were a lot of innocent people in that city too?? the show's message from the first eps of "men in power fight their game of thrones while commoners suffer" is completely lost in the second half of the show because the show is unwilling to admit XZ is very much one of those men in power.
XZ identity reveal dragged for wayyyy to long. XZ faking his identity in the military camp doesn't make sense for the character and felt forced to create comedy.
FCY drugging XZ made me so mad. SO MAD. because what if you die? who will take care of ning? at the end of the day she's all ning has. and if XZ also dies in the war? FCY from earlier season would never act like this. her sister was always her first priority. doesn't make sense for the character previously established.
so funny how the second couple were just in their own mini-drama lmao
why isn't FCY mad at XZ ?
FCY general arc was wayyyyy to rushed.
the chemistry is still amazing.
Qi Min's plan for taking the throne was so messy & all the focus was on the romance. i meannnn i loved the romance but isn't he supposed to be this mastermind villain?
great acting. great chemistry. still enjoyed the show. but the first half was significantly better imo.
rebuttal to fcy being able to take on the younger sui- he had a misogyny debuff while fcy had initiative. translation- he underestimated her, and fcy took him by surprise both times. in their first encounter, fcy was disguised as a maid and took him by surprise. in the second encounter, she had the high ground and he had a exhaustion debuff from massacring the village.
in terms of skill, you have to remember that her dad was a pretty high general who was war buddies with general he. her technique was passed down to her from someone that's really high caliber. her only sparring buddy was her dad- a general. i dunno, your mileage may vary, but i think you level up your skill a lot from that kind of tutelage.
and a rebuttal to the jinzhou vs lin'an massacres. while xz ordered the sacking of jinzhou for revenge for his father, it was also in answer of the sacking of jinzhou seventeen years ago. this was tit-for-tat. fcy clarifies this in episode 3, i think, when she paid respects to the marquis of wu'an.
meanwhile, the sacking of lin'an was for a thwarted rebellion to take the throne of dayin. and because the one who thwarted him was xz and fcy, he targets lin'an, because the place was special to his enemies and that warranted its destruction. the jinzhou massacre by xz though in part was for revenge, another part was to remind the enemy that escalation to killing innocents has consequences. it rebukes them and warns them to not do that again.
and that's why it's different.
look, the elevation of xz to being as important nn is progressing the romance plot of the relationship for fcy. remember, when the assassins came for xz and nn in the lin'an arc, she came back for xz after getting her sister out of the danger zone.
fcy has always been down bad for her matrilocal husband, war doesn't really change that for her. or are assassins not an equal danger to war?
yeah i am aware that her dad was a general, but idk i still thought she defeated sui wayyy to easily? because even with her dad being a general, sui should've had access to the best teachers and training. my main problem with it is that i feel it lowers the stakes - i already know fcy is gonna win no matter what.
yes, xz had his reasons to do it. but at the end of the day he still massacred a city filled with innocent people. also you could also argue that both xz and sui did it for personal revenge. xz actions are heavily criticized, and considered cruel. no matter what his reasons were, xz is still responsible for the deaths of many innocent people, who's only crime is living in jinzhou.
absolutely fcy is down bad for xz. but ning is still 100% her priority. leaving ning behind to go to battle made no sense to me.
anyway, still really loved the show!
To go from this:
To this:
Is the downgrade of all time. He is so pretty and so incapable of any kind of acting.
watching rebirth turn one of my favs of all times into the love obsessed villain trope like
and even compared with other "love obsessed villain" trope characters he's sooooo badly written
at least he's pretty...
See for yourself. This is my husband, the man lawfully married to me, Fan Chingyu.

here's a little rant about rebirth:
the drama is visually so well-made, actually no, I think well-made is an understatement, it's wonderfully crafted, from the real locations, to the beautiful costumes and the cinematic shots I was literally in awe from episode one.
And I have no problem with most of the cast, I see some people complain about zhang kangle as yan xun, honestly his acting isn't even bad, I have seen so, so much worse in cdramaland that has made me wanna bash my head into a wall. His acting is good and he exudes the dangerous aura I believe a character with a tragic backstory like yan xun should have, I mean I found him literally mesmerizing in some scenes, which is not something I could've said about his performance in Legend of the female general- I found his character utterly forgettable there. Li Yunrui is a favorite of mine, I'd be watching even the dumbest of productions if he's in it, just looking at his face is enough tbh, the plot doesn't need to make sense at all 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. Here though, it's obvious from the first moment we see him on screen that he's been preparing to give a solid performance as zhuge yue, he's understood the core of his character well and he doesn't mess around. Every time he's on screen the drama gets a new dimension, it feels like a serious piece and not just an idol drama. The same could be said for 90% of the cast.
Buuuut
huangyang tian tian as chu qiao just doesn't work. No matter how hard I tried to like her as her character, she just doesn't match the expertise, the experience and the maturity that playing chu qiao requires. I mean here we have a female general who's been through hell and back, experiences which furnish her with enough material to do her job right and earn her merits. And they're trying to sell me all of this by casting an actress with a baby face and acting chops of a student in a school production of some famous play. I'm supposed to believe what other characters are saying about her, that she's formidable and fierce, even though every time she's on screen she just doesn't deliver. I've seen this being done with 80% of male leads who are supposed to be generals in dramas and it's annoying and honestly so overdone to the point I wanna break something when it happens again. If you have a role of a fearless and scary general you find an actor who looks and acts the part, don't cast a kpop idol for God's sake!!!!!!!
I nearly laughed when I saw her dressed in those massive fur coats in newer episodes, standing next to Yunrui and other characters she looks like a literal baby, not someone who's commanded an army let's be real here people come on! The fact that she was still a minor when she made this also affects the production quality in the largest. There's a lot of longing, passion, some visceral emotions between chu qiao and zhuge yue and yan xun as well that they had to obviously tone down solely because she was underage and because the age difference between her and the two actors just doesn't allow the existence of intimate scenes. Now I know this isn't a romance drama, but the love between zhuge yue and chu qiao, as well as yan xun's unhealthy obsession with her are a driving force and if it isn't properly delivered on screen , then the whole thing falls apart. Which is what is happening right now. I find most of her scenes with her male co-stars downright awkward and hard to watch, every time Yunrui lifts her in his arms they look like siblings, like real siblings, not the cdrama equivalent 🤣🤣🤣 And for all they've held back with her character, they're trying to fix by adding more intimate scenes for the side characters which comes off as uneven and unbalanced tbh.
And I am extremely disappointed because I was looking forward to this drama and I tried to like it and I do like it for the most part until she shows up on screen. I have nothing against the actress, but it's clear as a day she's ventured into something she's too young to understand and properly express.
my main problem with rebirth is that it presumes to be PA sequel. it is not. it's just a drama with a love tringle between a badly written and overhyped FL, the "nice guy" who wants to support her and the classic villain who's obsessed with her and she's his motivation for everything. the characters have been reduced to popular stereotypes. "general FL", "nice guy" "love obsessed villain" "evil princess" etc. etc.
seeing zhuge yue lift CQ to make yan xun jealous was so funny to me because OG CQ would neverrrr allow these two men to fight over her like she's a prize to be won. zhuge yue being presented as this nice guy who was only ever kind to CQ and never did anything wrong is ridiculous because did these show makers even watch the original show??? yan xun being turned into this love obsessed villain is an insult to his OG character . also seeing CQ so passive, and making her entire character about romance is also insulting to OG CQ. PA had some of the best and most complex characters in Cdrama, and rebirth reducing them to tropes and love obsessed fools is so annoying to me! because it's fine if you want to enjoy a romance-focused show with these types of characters, but that is NOT PA.
just rewatched some of my fav eps from PA.
chun'er and yan xun my beloveds. best characters on the show, and honestly? they def on my list of fav Cdrama characters of all times.
their stories were just so beautiful and tragic. both of them started off as innocent and kind people, who lived in a vipers nest and did not understand the monstrosity and cruelty of the world and people around them.
and both experienced unimaginable horrors. cdramas has a lot of villains with tragic backstories. sometimes we are shown flashbacks to their pasts, but the overall moral of the story is always "even though bad things happen it's no excuse to be a villain" & these villains usually end up getting what they deserve.
however, PA doesn't do that. the audience is forced to experience the horrors these two kind people endure. we see everything in details. we see how their spirits are crushed, and cannot help but understand them and sympathize with them. yan xun had to watch his entire family getting slaughtered, and was imprisoned for years. and mind you, it was done by those he believed were his friends. of course he's gonna become hateful, revengeful and cold. but the thing about yan xun is that even during his worst he still cared and protected a'chu. she was the only thing he had, she was his anchor and the only person who hadn't betrayed and abandoned him (yes, i am looking at you yu wen yue, you useless coward), and his unhealthy attachment to her later on was very understandable. yan xun was so beautifully written, and for me he was the true ML of the show. yan xun loved a'chu and she loved him back but that was just not enough. love isn't a magic potion, it can't fix someone or heal their trauma. and people are able to truly love someone from the bottom of their hearts yet still chose revenge and cruelty.
and chun'er. i feel like chun'er is a character i've seen many times. an innocent princess, in love with prince from enemy state, politics and betrayal happens etc. etc. she lowkey reminded me of "goodbye my princess" FL. but unlike those dramas, the prince doesn't fall for the innocent princess despite politics and war with her family. chun'er's prince wants to get his revenge against her family and go home. her love is childish and hopeless. but you cannot help but to feel bad for her, despite the fact that she completely ignores the fact that her dad killed yanxun's entire family yet she's still pushing to marry him. because chun'er is not cruel or evil. she's ignorant, overprivileged and simply unable to feel and recognize yanxun's pain and feelings. chun'er thinking yanxun rebellion is because he doesn't wanna marry her, and desperately trying to fix the situation she believes is her fault is just so heartbreaking, and i remember crying my eyes out at that horrible scene when it is revealed she was raped.
chun'er and yanxun were like characters from a Disney movie living in game of thrones universe. there is no place for innocence in PA, good people suffer. if yanxun didn't rebel and raised an army on his wedding day, he would've been killed. if you want to survive in this world you need to be strong.
i did like chu qiao. but she wasn't as captivating to me as yanxun and chun'er. but i admired her loyalty and values. i think her character could've been more fleshed out, especially her past and she could've had a better arc as the FL. i felt like the show spent wayyy to much time having her interact with new characters, and didn't really like the whole "every man she meets falls for her" trope.
i am yuwen yue biggest hater. this man can go to hell. he only does the "right thing" when it's convenient for him. did not love a'chu as much as yanxun did.
anyway, PA was great. i am currently watching rebirth and ... yeah it's def interesting lol . but i recently learned the actress was 17 when they were filming this??? WHATTTTT??? is she going to have kissing scenes on the show????? because PA did have some intimate scenes. i really hope not and i if someone knows please tell me and i will drop this show.
LB is actually wild for having the darkling place a collar on alina framing him as her oppressor while mal is out there shaming and resenting her for being anything other then the version of her he loves - weak, without a support system and entirely depended on him.
the darkling is literally the one to has to force her powers out of her because she has been repressing and rejecting a core part of herself for her entire life. mind you, rejecting her identity is making her physically ill and weak. and why has she been repressing her powers?? for who? oh right - mal.
I wouldn’t say it’s “framing him” as her oppressor. He does oppress her and a lot of the Grisha! But that doesn’t make Mal any better either don’t get me wrong! He’s an asshole at times for sure and (correct me if I’m wrong) is canonically based on LBs abusive boyfriend at the time iirc?
I keep seeing people arguing Mal vs The Darkling on my feed and I’m like… why not neither! They both suck!
I am trying so hard to resist writing a whole ass essay about this like literally sat here like “its not worth it don’t write the essay”
i'm not saying that the darkling is a good\bad person. i'm saying the choice to frame his character as Alina's oppressor while Mal is meant to be seen as this great guy is crazy to me, especially when you take alina's powers into consideration.
