I’ll probably redo this post at some point lol. I’m a 21 year old transmasc nonbinary person, currently in the process of finding out if I’m autistic and/or have adhd :) I like to draw and play various video games (botw and totk, Minecraft, slime rancher, Stardew valley, etc). I have also taken up crochet. I’m always looking for friends, but please only try to befriend me if you’re near my age, like 17-26 age range pls.

To be clear, I’m generally against the radqueer community and am anti-ship, but I don’t inherently hate the people that disagree, same with everything really. People reach these conclusions for their own reasons and I think the best way to move forward is to talk things out. As long as you aren’t hurting anyone I think we can reach common ground :)

Even very recently I’ve gone from anti-endo to questioning if I’m endo. Remember "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" ? I feel like there's been a distancing from the "reduce" and "reuse" part and a favoritism towards "recycle" by corporate American.

Capitalism can still thrive with recycling in the mix. You buy Plastic Thing 1, throw it away after one use, and they take that and recycle it into Plastic Thing 2 and sell it back to you. All while continuing to harm the environment.

Reusing puts a damper on things. They can't sell you Plastic Thing 2 when you're still using Plastic Thing 1. Plastic forks, for example- there is literally no reason why you can't reuse plastic forks more than once (aside from maybe microplastics, but it's too late for that)

Reducing is the one everyone wants to ignore. Just don't buy Plastic Thing 1. You don't need Plastic Thing 1. Pick up a set of metal forks and use those for years. Convenience is killing the planet

the slogan is in that order for a reason! It is listed in order of effectiveness and impact; if you can't reduce, reuse. If you can't reuse, recycle.

What goes unsaid here is why they’re all “re-“ prefixed: it’s about circularity. Keeping the resources in use means that we don’t have to keep incurring the environmental costs of production over and over on infinite one-way trips of new stuff starting in the earth, through human society, and right back into the earth in landfill.

i tried so hard to come up with a clever or interesting nightwing name for simon but it feels so goofy when his actual name is just. a real name. idk, a two word one with butcher? abysswalker? like something about the navigation aspect? listener goes hard since its the actual meaning of simon, but like i said in the notes, already a canon dragon. butcher is technically valid but i feel like the 1 word names are always positive or at least nonviolent... if anyone has thoughts i want them

Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that

Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do

Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control

Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child

Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.

Not to bring the serious to a very fun post, but this reaction is exactly what Mamdani is working for with his image, because in a very real way the most effective way for him to be The Mayor is if he looks like The Mayor.

This is a man who is VIOLENTLY aware that when it comes to conservatives, he is a Muslim first, a Brown Man second, an Immigrant third, a Socialist fourth, and a human a very distant fifth, if considered at all. He was also a young adult during the Obama Years and will have seen Republicans rip Obama to shreds for wearing a tan suit instead of a dark one and use literally ANY excuse they could to try and degrade his image.

Despite the fact that a mayor who wears a T-shirt and jeans might "seem more approachable" in the eyes of the average American, Zohran Mamdani knows that someone with his profile fundamentally cannot get away with that the way his White colleagues can. He has instead put in the effort to look professional and BE approachable, because not only does it make it easier for him to reach and represent his constituents, it forces everyone, including both his opponents and establishment Democrats, to engage with the work he is doing instead of judging his image. The fact that he is always seen in a suit and is recognisably The Mayor is, while also something he has fun with, a deliberate choice to ensure he is as inarguably A Professional Politician To Be Taken Seriously. The added humour of e.g. the hi-vis is a bonus, only achievable because he works so hard to Look Like The Mayor.

Eridian speculative biology time!

Erid is a very big planet, very very very big planet, twice the size of earth in fact- and divided by oceans, perfect conditions for populations to remain and develop separately and for long enough to create diferent species. So, unlike us, Eridians are a Polytypic genus: there's more than one species of sapient eridian, All of them sharing a common ancestor in the form of a small, 5 legged ambush-hunter land carnivore, all share common traits taking only slightly different evolutionary paths

Divers- get their name from living in semi-flooded caves, their high small vents allow them to be partially submerged without drowning and their long arms allow them to grip things easily underwater, similar to a sea-horse tail

Climbers- similarly, they get their name from their living enviroment, living in very high caves, their long thin arms allow them to grip and climb very steep rock walls, kinda like goats in a way

Drills and Stompers get their name from the shape of their arms, they both developed closer to the surface compared to the others, their arms are like that for dealing with sandstorms, while Drills "drill" themselfs in place, Stompers use their body weight to keep themselfs down

Blocks are very similar to Stompers, but they live in caves much deeper down, so they're quite compact

Common traits between all species: all Eridians can thrum, all Eridians organize in "colonies" like ants or termites (tho the specifics of how each colony works varies), all Eridians are True Carnivores(can only eat meat) and all Eridians are unisex

In theory any one eridian can procreate with any other eridian, between the 5 species there are 4 fertile hybrids and 3 infertile hybrids posible

note: tho each species has a more broad vague shared culture between themselves, none of them are a monolith, all of them have vastly different culture, language, texture, practices and even phenotypes between different colonies around the world

note 2: the fact humans are a monotypic species (there is only one in our genus) is really fucking weird to them

pokemon is a series about building Your own team and going on Your own adventure with creatures that You collect and befriend, and is designed from the ground up to be personal and immersive. i have never been able to look like myself in a pokemon game. if i bought pokemon z a today and booted it up and tried to customize myself, i would not be able to look like myself. just fuck me i guess.

I really like the way Project Hail Mary presents controversial research. The main concept explored in Grace’s paper, that life does not need hydrogen/ water to evolve, is not proven to be correct based on what we see in the book. However, aspects of his paper are eventually proven to be true. Life can evolve outside of the Goldilocks zone, and water’s role in the development of life can be more complex than originally thought (how Rocky’s biology works and evolution of life on Erid).

It’s an interesting way of exploring the presentation scientific research, you may not be correct 100 percent of the time, but the research that you conduct can pave the way to expansive thinking. While the main hypothesis might be incorrect, if the methods and procedures are utilized properly, the ideas and research that come out of excitements are not wasted! They can be repurposed for future research or be used as evidence to support the prevailing line of thought. This aspect of half truths felt like a tribute to the practice of academic writing, and added a lovely layer of realism.

It goes to show that Grace’s hypothesis really could have evolved to have some weight behind them if he had given it time. Stratt and the rest of his field at the beginning of his process were definitely barking up the right tree.
