Pride month is almost over, and in this unfortunate moment where transmascs and non binary people are the current target of internet queer exclusionism, i hope all my transmasc siblings know that

you're not betraying women and femininity by transitioning

there's nothing inherently evil about masculinity

you're not going to become a bigot just because you transition

there's nothing ugly about masculinity and you deserve to celebrate getting more masculine without feeling bad about it

there's no one way to be trans masc, and regardless of your gender presentation, your identity is valid

Anyways. Wish that terfzilla would get slammed with the same social and legal ramifications that a cis man harassing a cis woman would get but alas. She literally posted a creep shot up the skirt of a trans woman (to get revenge on her specifically- not randomly. Not that that would make it better). and I know she’s too wealthy and privileged to ever face real consequences. but I need the public to understand she’s not just a fascist. And not just funding fascism. She’s also a real, actionable sexual predator. She’s not just standing back and encouraging others to harm each other, she’s harming them directly herself.

It goes without saying, but I just can’t believe that cis bigots walk around claiming that trans fems can’t, or don’t deserve, to be women, explicitly because they haven’t suffered the same kinds of traumas that cis women have. And then they personally go out of their way to inflict those exact abuses (and more!) on trans fems. Till trans fems are statistically more likely to suffer those abuses than cis women. “But what if trans woman take pictures of cis women in the bathroom” you are literally sharing a nonconsensual photo of a woman’s underwear and making an incredibly cruel “joke” about her genitals….. to your millions of followers…. at this very moment. You are literally the exact predator you fear. HHHHHHHHHHHH white feminism is going to be the death of us all

I almost can’t believe that these bigots are actually so deeply invested in their delusions that they can’t see past their constructed victimhood. I think that they have to know. They have to know they’re wrong. They just enjoy getting to punch down so much that they won’t stop. a piece about being two-spirit and transgender.

i designed this piece to resemble a chest that is post-mastectomy top surgery, just like mine; raven's wings and torso represent pectoral muscles, and his legs and talons are double incision scars.

in tsimshian adaawx (true tellings, not folklore or myth) as well as some neighbouring nations, it's said that raven used to be white long ago. as is often the case for trans people, i made drastic changes to my presentation and body from what i was born/grew up with/pressured into; so i found meaning that raven once looked very different too. it's also an analogy for adaptation: the white half of raven represents the old ways, & the black, modern times - ntvs broadly have had to adapt our ways as colonization continues, & i think two-spirit people have a unique relationship with this; we try to find ourselves in our histories that are sometimes nearly totally erased, we move in & out of colonial genders & western LGBT identities as it suits us.

also, raven is very resourceful & transforms into other beings; likewise, we adapt & transform. hes also self-motivated - not even stealing the sun is off limits! we are also by necessity self-propelled, tenaciously chasing down treatment or making other transformations. even when we have to sneak under the noses of authority figures in our lives to do it.

this split between two also gets at my own experience - in english terms, i'm approximately nonbinary. i needed T & top surgery, but my transition was not to a man but a different "woman" gender. it's very painful for me that under colonial gender, i am flattened. i'm more comfortable than ever as this new kind of woman, but i had to accept that many will initially perceive me as a man, even if i'm rarely read as cis. it's like i'm inbetween two worlds - and my life is MILES better for not dealing with severe dysphoria now that i'm mostly done with my transition, don't get me wrong, but it hurts to not be seen for the wholeness of the role that i occupy.

some other details: the two faces on raven's hips with hands up symbolizes support from within & out, and how we are in dialogue with ourselves, our communities, & the universe. it's a call to action to support 2S natives, & an acknowledgement of those who uphold it. the gold ovoid is the sun, which he stole. the sun shines on us all no matter who we are. he's also holding more light in his talons - medicine, which is transition, transformation, and community.

If someone wants you to halt or fully detransition for them, regardless of what they tell you, they do not love you. They want you to be in pain for their own attraction. A good partner would end the relationship, hopefully stay friends, but support you in your transition. There is no other action to take from a person who genuinely cares for you.

dear fellow autistic people: if you consistently come out of doctor’s appointments feeling emotionally (and sometimes physically) hurt, but you feel bad for feeling hurt because “the doctors were being nice”, the doctors were not being nice.

this is something I had to learn the hard way. doctors often dress up their words all pretty so you can’t sue them. I, for a long time, mistook this as genuine kindness. It’s not. It’s just being professional. even if they didn’t call you a slur or anything that doesn’t mean they weren’t ignoring your needs.

trust what your body and emotions tell you. if you are feeling hurt, there is a reason, and you need to listen to it. please listen to it.

Anyway this disability pride month I would like to shoutout disabled folks whose creativity has suffered because of their condition. I’m talking people with hand tremors and pain that stop them from drawing, knitting, and playing instruments. People whose thinking has become so disorganized that nothing they write makes sense to other people. People with chronic pain who can no longer dance. People so over medicated in a fruitless attempt to maintain stability that the wells of their imagination have run dry.

I see you and I love you. You are more than your creative output. You are not a shell of what you used to be. You are a whole, complete person, regardless of what your creativity has been, is now, or will be in the future.
