Facts about your body after you turn 25, AKA things I wish someone had told me:
you will get hair in fun new places. this is normal and fine.
these places include (but are not limited to) if you don't already have them: your asscrack, your back, your ears, and moles. it's fine.
some of you, dick or not, will also lose hair. this is normal, but also if you have ovaries maybe get this checked out for PCOS.
your acne will probably change. some people get better. some people get worse. it's fine.
your nails will probably get an infection or a fungus at least once in your life. this is fine. (but also let your doc know).
how you gain and lose fat and where you do so will change. this is fine.
how you smell will change. this is fine. (fishy or rotten smells mean doctor time though)
if you have a prostate: it gets harder to pee. prostates enlarge as you age (get this checked regularly). this is fine.
if you do not have a prostate: it gets easier to pee but not in a good way. as in as you get older, your pelvic floor muscles tend to lose some of their strength. this makes it harder to keep pee in. this is fine.
all breasts and pectorals eventually sag, with the rest of your body. this is fine.
a decent percent of the population will experience a cyst at least once. some of you will make up for the rest with multiple. this is fine, but keep them checked out by a doctor. (sometimes this is a condition! get checked for that too!)
almost half of everyone gets hemorrhoids. it's a good idea to just expect them since your chances of getting them get higher the older you are. your toilet will look like a murder scene. definitely get your booty checked out BUT this is almost always perfectly normal. just eat more fiber. "but I already-" eat more fiber. and maybe suck it up and buy some hemorrhoid cream, you'll thank me later.
yes, this means you will probably need to make an appointment for a doctor to see your butthole. it's okay. not only do they really not care but 1. they've seen weirder that day and 2. they'd far rather you see them now than later when it's been going on for forty years and now it might be colon cancer. it's okay. consider it a rite of passage.
adults need more sleep than children. don't believe the myth that you need less than they do. that is capitalist propaganda to make you give up more of your life to the work grind, comrade.
vitamins and medicine, something you are more likely to take as you get older, sometimes make the toilet turn weird colors. it's okay.
if you still have your tonsils and get those little stones and get sore throats more than once a year you should plan on getting those suckers out before the tonsils cause an infection and go septic. if you're getting stones at all you should get those reevaluated every year, especially if the stones are bigger than a needlehead (or get bigger over time). it's gross and yucky. I don't care. get them looked at before you end up in the hospital.
you'll probably need to add foot support to your shoes if you don't already do. this is fine.
your body changes. sometimes it can feel sorta weird and upsetting that it isn't what it used to be. that is okay, and it is okay to be upset. just know that this is normal, it's normal to be upset or not upset, but don't let it hinder your quality of life. trans or cis, there is a certain level of acceptance you just gotta give your body and forgive your body for as you get older. it's okay.
it's okay. I promise.

One of the few good things to come out of the casualisation of the workforce in Australia is that by putting staff on contracts, they shift the ownership of that staff's intellectual property (IP) back to the contractor. That is, if you come up with a new, easier, quicker, cheaper way of doing something; that idea is yours, and you have every right to sell that idea either to your current boss or their competitor.
You can't use your current company's data, and you do need to do your own marketing, selling, and admin of your new product, but it is yours and yours alone to capitalise.
Disclaimer: Please seek qualified independent advice on IP and contract law and how it applies to you in your jurisdiction.
I know people will make fun of me for saying things like planting a tree will do anything to help with climate change but don't y'all understand that the more habitable and helpful to life your corner of the world is, the more people will be able to do to help the rest of humankind?
literally 70% of it is just breaking out of your learned helplessness
Learned helplessness is half of it, but I think the other half is a black-and-white perfectionism which insists that absolute flawless 100% success is the only thing worth trying for, and anything less is utter failure. So if you canât personally fix it completely, thereâs no point in doing anything. And any political measure that might make things less bad is worthless.
I think it has to do with the stories our culture tells. The world is in danger and will be destroyed! The peril is huge and awesome! There is One Chosen Hero, Captain America or Luke Skywalker or Tony Stark or Harry Potter, and it is up to them to Save The Day! There is one decisive Battle Between Good And Evil, and Evil is Defeated and just like that, everything is puppies and rainbows and unicorns and ice cream.
Except it doesnât work like that. Large positive change happens gradually, with people getting together and doing what they can to move things in the direction they want. We talk about the big heroes and pivotal moments, but we donât talk about the bulk of the work that actually got done. We talk about Roe v. Wade, but we donât talk about the groups of women across the country who worked for safe abortion access and birth control access for decades leading up to that, setting the stage that made it possible. We talk about Martin Luther King Jr., but sort of gloss over the myriad of Black people of all genders who had been fighting for their rights and dignity in large and small ways for centuries and had been making gargantuan efforts in the decades leading up to and during the Civil Rights movement. Without them, Dr. King would not have been able to do anything.
I was talking with someone awhile back, about a politician local to them who had been elected partly because they promised to reduce the number of people sent to jail. And they did! They changed some things about the way the system worked, and dropped the number of people detained in jail before trial by something like half. Thousands of people who would have ended up in jail did not. And the person I was talking to said it was pointless because jails should be completely abolished. And they couldnât see that there was any value to reducing the number of people in jail if you couldnât or wouldnât abolish jail completely. But for the thousands of people who would have been imprisoned and had their lives destroyed, that change was the difference between life and death. And yes, we should work toward abolishing the carceral justice system ... but the ultimate goal shouldnât prevent you from doing what good you can do now.
The idea that One Great Battle--or One Great Election, or One Great Politician, or One Great Activist--will save the world is nonsense. Which could be depressing, because wouldnât it be nice if we could just do that one thing and then never have to worry again?
But itâs also freeing and a relief, because it means that you and I donât have to be Harry Potter or Captain America or Katniss Everdeen. We donât have to be the Chosen Hero Who Will Save The World. We just have to do our part to make our corner of it a little bit better.
Can you single-handedly save all the bees? No, but you can plant local plants in your garden or in pots outside your front door, and that will help the bees in your area. Thereâs a lot you can do that wonât Save The Planet, but will make your little corner of it a little healthier. And thatâs worth doing.
Listen, most of the big issues are from corporations, so technically does me recycling that container save the world? No!
But does it take drops to make an ocean? Yes!
wish my life was like a 90's movie where all my friends work in record stores and bookshops and coffee shops and we see really cool bands in small little clubs and get breakfast together and like hang out on roofs and shit
Not to be that guy on this post but whenever I see it it stresses me out. I know it's supposed to be a fun aesthetic but there's a reason things are not like that anymore. There are no record stores left in my town. There are no bookstores left in my town. There is one terrible gentrified cafe in my town. There is no where for the cool little bands to perform in my town. There are no more cool little clubs in my town. Hell we don't even have a bowling alley anymore. All of these things got bought up and knocked down and replaced with a Dunkin' donuts or some garbage and now we all just stay indoors instead of hanging out on rooftops. Capitalism took these things from us. We're not just romanticizing the '90s, we're romanticizing life before social media and COVID and the current stage of hyper capitalism we find ourselves in.
According to Facebook, an oppressed minority group thatâs been discriminated against for too long = landlords.

thanks for bringing this back lmfappoposejfd
listening to this podcast about how the french are culturally mandated to take a 1 to 2 hour lunch break away from the workplace during which its looked down upon to talk about work. which is unfortunately the sexiest thing ive ever heard
i love when people are like "you should use your platform to spread awareness" and they're literally talking to a tumblr user and they're serious
