Sometimes, I feel like Bridgerton fans are just obsessed with the fantasy of ending up in a titled family, instead of investing in the story for what it is.
I get it, I'm a historical romance enthusiast—part of the genre's charm is that the characters marry dukes and other titled lords. But personally for me, HR should be more. It should feature love stories of people from different walks of life. And that includes people of the lower class.
That's why I'm such a proponent of Theloise: because it defies social norms at the time. And the fact that it's the woman who is of the higher station and the man the lower class adds so much tension to the story already. Like, the potential is right there!
But then, book fans come in with their ship, and their only argument is that Eloise wouldn't like the life without luxury. Are we sure about that? Or is this just their way of trying to make the book canon ship work in the show canon? Because as it stands, there's no reason for the book ship to happen in the show?
God forbid Eloise doesn't end up with a titled lord. For these people, they can't imagine a happy ending for her if she didn't stay within the circle of aristocracy. And that makes me sad. Because happy endings can be found—should be found—anywhere in society.
