I wish that ao3 had an option to filter warnings (and tbh certain authors) out like I will never ever want to read it and just seeing it puts me off so much that often I end up closing my browser because that content upsets me so much lmao
There is a way to do this but I can’t recall how to do it. it’s something you type into the box for “other filters” or something, I don’t remember. who knows?? It’s not a great option, and I don’t know if you can sort out authors that way, but it’s better than nothing if someone can reblog this with how to do it!
Alrighty friends! It takes some specificity, but you can do this. Let me show you how!
So I started with going to the Sherlock (TV) section of Ao3. On the right we find this lovely section! ((I know I’m going over things you already probably know, but I figure this post may go to new Ao3 users, so bear with me.))
Underneath this, I chose sort by Kudos, because that’s a quick way to find most popular fics, for the sake of this demonstration.
With those filters on, we end up with this being our first two results:
As you can see, we have Nature and Nurture by earlgreytea68, and The Internet Is Not Just For Porn by cyerus. So what if I am utterly sick of seeing earlgreytea68 on my list? Let’s pretend I’ve read all their fics, or that I just don’t like her, or whatever. I want this author out. I go to this section on the right:
In “Search within results” I type earlgreytea68 into the bar, with a minus sign in front. This gives me the following page, upon hitting the sort and filter button:
There goes earlgreytea68! But now I’ve decided that Crack is just not my thing, I’m sick of that, too, for heaven’s sake, I want something reasonable in my gay slash fanfiction about detectives that solve crimes about glowing dogs and irish megalomaniacs. Heaven forbid this get ridiculous.
Well, then I add this to my search:
Which gets rid of everything with that tag. My results are now:
Performance in a Leading Role is now my first result!
You can do this as many times as you want; the biggest problem I have is trying to filter out multi-worded tags. For example, “Secret Relationship” is hard to filter. Better to go with authors you dislike or with words like “DubCon”.
I hope this helps! Also remember that googling site:archiveofourown.org and then adding search terms will mean google searches Ao3 for you, and sometimes that works far better.
Good luck!
An excellent in-depth guide! Thank you!!
omg changed my whole ao3 rarepair game
An excellent guide to filtering on AO3!
You can filter out phrases by enclosing them in quotes. For example, if ABO and Hydra Trash Party are not your things, try:
-“alpha/beta/omega dynamics” -”hydra trash party”
I have more advice!
Say, you’re in your random fandom- I went with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, since I’ve been reading Iron Man stuff recently. Tony Stark is awesome.
But anyway, you’re on the page, and you see that there are 174,774 works! That is way too many for a casual afternoon’s browsing.
And you see that the first one is Peter Parker/Tony Stark and that is not your jam. It doesn’t work for you, or it squicks you, whatever. Wouldn’t life be easier if you could browse without seeing that pairing (or whatever pairing you don’t like)? You can!
First, click on that pairing tag(You may want to open this in another tab, actually.):
and it’ll take you to the page for that pairing tag. Click this button:
and then look at the address bar! The actual page is unimportant. Copy the numbers located here:
and go back to the original search page! Down on the side, in the same place you can get rid of other tags, type -relationship_ids:”the number you just copied”
Then hit ‘sort and filter’ annnd… magic!
The fics with that pairing are gone! You can also do multiple pairings, get rid of any tags you don’t like, and sort it by date or length or kudos, or whatever.
Enjoy.
I’d just like to add that these sorts of search modifiers ALSO WORK IN GOOGLE AND MOST RESEARCH DATABASES. The more you know.

so Lilith knew that Eda was one of the most powerful witches but she also knew that her sister would never go willingly with her to the Emperor’s Coven. So one lonely night, she took advantage of Eda’s trust and the fact they were sisters to curse her so she would have no other option but join the emperor’s side so they could heal her.

Don’t Know What to Draw?
Do you happen to have any tips for drawing horns?
Hi, Anon! I’ll definitely try my best. Horns are a little tricky since they’re so subjective and the styles/textures vary so drastically.
Mostly I’m going to be talking about texture here and I’ll try to keep it simple since they’re time consuming to draw.
Smooth horns are great and easy, can come in any and all shapes, but if you want to add more interest and character to the horns, it all comes down to how you texture them. Here’s a simple smooth horn. It’s okay, it’s basic, but it works and will especially work better once it’s colored if it has a sheen or a matte look.
You can add simple lines to it to give it a bit more interest, but you can take it farther than just the cylinder look like drawn here. The lines give it the easy, quick illusion of being more dimensional, but it’s not the most interesting or dynamic.
You can play with the lines however you like to give the horns more uniqueness, such as a line down the center to sort of pinch it inwards. Still more dynamic than the smooth horn, but more interesting than the rounded one.
You can leave the lines as they are for an easier horn, or take it a step farther and use them as guides to texture them. This is where it gets fun, but time consuming. Definitely look up references of what you want to go for if you’re not sure. I highly recommend Ram, Ibex or Antelope references, Antelope being my favorite. They have so much texture to them in the forum of smaller and larger ridges, so here’s a horn based loosely (artistic liberties taken) off a mix of Ram and Antelope.
Getting into plates which are my favorite, there’s little to reference off of. Here’s a more dynamic, spiky look with plates using the guide lines as a base to get an ideal direction you want the horn to shape into.
Just take your guide lines and then extend outward. Add as little or as much wear, tear and damage as you want. Horns can get dry and crack, they can take a hit and break, age can cause grooves, your imagination’s the limit.
Outside of plates, you can look up any horned animal to get ideas for texture, anything from steer to deer and elk (if you want to get more into the antlered look), or mix and match textures from a few horn styles you like. Hope this helps! Sorry I can’t go more in depth, but I tried to explain it as best as I know how. Good luck with your horns!
Ok but guys hear me out
what if
Miraculous animated bloopers
-Ladybug fucking up her Yoyo tricks -Someone randomly laughs during a scene and can’t stop during the next takes -VISIBLE STUNT DOUBLES -Hawk Moth ALWAYS forgets his text -Akumas getting their Akuma name and their character name messed up -Ladybug/Marinette is the actual punster and cracks stupid, completely unfunny jokes everytime she forgets her text -bonus points if she says them in the most serious voice -Chat Noir/Adrien always calls ger out for them -EVERYBODY makes stupid faces off camera -Someone fucks up a scene pretty hard and it became an inside joke
-Hawkmoth finally getting a perfect take and the skylight gets stuck and he just breaks down
-Chat Noir getting distracted by a boom mic
-Theo is on the film crew because oF COURSE he is
-Chole is actually really chill and always apologizes for her character’s lines off set
-wardrobe malfunctions
-Tikki and Plagg know Mari’s and Adrien’s lines perfectly and have to help out -PLAGG DOESN’T EVEN LIKE CHEESE -Alya actually always forgets to take her phone on stage -Theo is also the son of the producer, that’s why he’s everywhere -There hasn’t been one day when there were no problems with the greenscreen
-That one crew member that’s always visible in the background
what ever you do, don’t imagine Hawkmoth sneaking into the prop department and running out with a pair of earrings and a ring shouting “AT LONG LAST THE MIRACULOUS STONES ARE MINE”
- AND ADRIEN BEING ALL LIKE “NOT AGAIN… MARI COME HELP ME, HE IS DOING IT AGAIN…” AND THEY BOTH SPEND HALF OF THE DAY TRYING TO GET THEIR MIRACULOUS BACK FROM HAWKMOTH BEFORE THE NEXT SCENE STARTS
- Also Mari helping Adrien with his puns and being all like “hmm maybe you should try saying this… ”
- Chloe and Marinette being actually really close, and between takes they help each other with their lines
- Chat messing up his lines on purpose just to make everyone laugh
- THEY ARE ALL REALLY CLOSE
ALSO:
- ALL OF THE SCENES OF CHAT LOOKING AT LADYBUG LOVINGLY ARE NOT SCRIPTED.
(I lost it at the hawk moth running away part) -Hawk Moth is Gabriel and is still Adrien’ dad -tells everyone to call him Gabe -Adrien and Gabe actually have a really close relationship -Adrien and Gabe hugging after each scene where their characters interact -Gabe acts fatherly to all the kids - Gabe makes dad jokes -Everyone calls him Hawk Dad -all the dads have code names -Gabe Tom and Mari have pun offs
- alya only got the part because she runs an actual blog and has an obsession with it -nathanaël could not draw at first and had to take loads of art lessons for only seconds of footage showing his artwork -nino isn’t actually listening to music, he has someone reading his lines to him because he has the worst memory -ivan and mylene are actually dating off-camera and adrien is jealous of their love
Oh my god imagine if the puns were only added because Adrien thought he had to make cat puns for the part of chat noir
SCREAMING OVER ALL OF THIS
BLESS THIS WHOLE POST OHMI GOSH
- The Kwamis are puppets on string with voice actors behind the set
- “Tikki” and “Plagg” are married couple
- Adrien is a clumsy boi who always rips his costume
Yes to all of this!!!!!!
But consider:
Lila and Marinette actually being really good friends.
It takes Lila multiple times to threaten Marinette because she always breaks and says sorry to her.
Marinette actually sucks at baking.
She may or may not have burned the set of the kitchen but you can’t prove anything.
Adrien and Marinette are smitten for each other but don’t think that the other likes them. The entire class riots because “how can two people be this stupid”
Lila and Chloe are the biggest Adrienette shippers
Gabriel is actual trash at designing. They let him design the Bubbler’s costume and decided never again.

How did you learn to lipsync?? whenever I did lipsyncing it doesn't even look like the character's saying actual words. If you could, can you possibly provide some tips?
I learned lip sync mostly from studying otheranimations and from acting it out myself. ^^ I am no way an expert, but these are some important things that I’ve learned:
-Set your frame rate to 24 fps. This doesn’t mean that you have to literally draw 24 individualpictures per second (though you can if you want the challenge), youcan just work on mostly 2s and draw in 1s where you need them (1s are24 drawings per second so each picture fills one frame, while 2s are12 drawings per second where one picture fills two frames). This isespecially important for lip sync because at some point you’re goingto need more frames to fit in the mouth shapes you need for certainsounds and fast talking.
-Don’t try to animate the lettersounds. This will just make the lip sync a jumbled mess and itwon’t flow. Instead, animate the key sounds you hear in each word soit all smooths out and flows. For instance, when animating the word “has”, youcan skip over the “h” sound and go right into the “a” mouth shapeand then the “ss” sound for the s.
I highly recommend reading though thistutorial. It goes into more detail about everything and has listof more helpful tips & tricks at the end. Hope this helps! C:
Deleted tourist from photos
I have actually done this by hand, and holy heck, I wish I’d known about this method! This is brilliant.
This is way easier than trying to delete the tourists before you take the picture
Drawing Faces (A Collage of Tips)
Hey hey! We just drew a cute sketch of one of the alters in our system (Ava) and, since we’re really happy with it, we’ll share some proportion and facial construction tips that will hopefully help you with drawing too.
Picture for example above, explanation/details are below each picture.
The center of the eye almost always lines up with the corners of the lips (approximately–some people have slightly smaller or larger lips). If you’re confused about the size of the mouth, but the eyes look great, just draw a line down from the center of each eye and you’ll have the exact size of the mouth you need!
It’s approximately five eyes that go across the face (depending on your style, play with this a little). The head wraps in a circle, so if the end eyes go over that’s cool, especially when drawing the face at an angle or in a semi-realistic style like this.
The key part is that one eye width is in between both eyes. This helps remain as a guide for typical eye-to-eye distance. Then, if you have a character who has wider or closer together eyes, you can change that consciously!
Enticing eyelashes have movement! They essentially work like arrows from the center of the eye. Upper eyelashes curve in the opposite direction of the lower eyelashes (directions are on the left side of the above picture).
Just make sure they curve, no one has straight eye lashes (unless you’re deliberately using that for stylistic effect)!
Hair has lots of movement too! Drawing arrows to start getting a sense of direction can be a great place to start. Start the arrow where the hair is attached to the head or pinned (like with a clip or hair tie) and then fan out from there.
Draw hair in sections/chunks that vary in size. See how some are thin sections and others are thicker? Typically on the edges of hair it’s thiner (like by the face, edges of the hair/outline) and in the center of sections it’s thicker.
As always, don’t be afraid to use references so you can see how hair falls on the shape of a human head!
A little neck trick: There is a V of muscles that connects near the collarbones and all the way up to under the ear. Make sure this V is something you draw (even if you erase it because your character has a thicker neck). The thinnest part of the neck cannot be thinner than this V.
Also, shoulder muscles start pretty soon after the neck, so see that thick red line on the side? That’s where the V and the shoulder muscles (the ones that get really sore on all of us) coming around the back connect. This gentle V will add a much more realistic look to the necks you draw and help the head look properly supported!
Best wishes with your drawing!
