If you're a new writer and you're asking yourself "is this too personal, is this too much, will people think this is weird" that feeling is the exact location of your actual voice. The stuff that makes you want to close the laptop is the stuff nobody else could write. The safe version is always worse. Always. I have never once read something and thought "this would have been better if it was a little less honest." go further. It's always go further.

You can’t stand at a bar without someone trying to pick you up, it’s a proven fact. At least that’s what Mike thinks as he watches you from his seat in the booth you’re both occupying. He doesn’t blame them, you’re a striking woman. He imagines you turn heads wherever you go.
It’s not just your looks that Mike enjoys it’s your company, your mind. You’re the only one that gets the way he thinks, that sees underneath all the armour he puts up, the bravado you calls it.
“You were jealous.” You murmur against his lips as you straddle his lap later that night.
Your black pencil skirt is hiked up to your hips and his palms are chasing up the delicate thigh high stockings you always wear underneath. It drives him crazy seeing you every day, knowing what’s under that skirt, not being able to reach out and touch.
“Maybe.” He concedes as his thumb traced over your lower lip, smearing that pretty red lipstick. “Do you like it?”
He likes you a little messy, a little raw. You’re usually so prim, so buttoned up. He’s the only one that gets to see this side of you, the woman underneath the label of Ice Queen.
“That depends.” You say with that smile of yours, the one that makes him feel like a thousand watt lightbulb just went off in his face. “What are you going to do about it?”

You’ve got an attitude tonight, Mike can tell from the way you slam the door to your office, the glass trembling in the panel as the noise vibrates through the entire floor. He just thanks Christ it’s past nine pm and the building is practically empty otherwise all sorts of rumours would be flying. He waits for the desk lamp to flick on before he makes his approach. He leaves his phone on his desk, the text from Audrey still on his screen.
Your head is in your hands when he enters the office and he feels something twist in his chest as you look up at him with mascara smeared under your eyes from where your you’ve rubbed your palms into the sockets.
“I didn’t know she was your friend.” He tells you as he closes the door behind him. “I wouldn’t have slept with her otherwise.”
That’s the deal, fuck who you want but friends are off limits. It’s a way of setting boundaries, of proving that this thing between the two of you is nothing more than casual. The problem is Mike may talk a good game but his feelings for you they go far beyond the occasional fuck when one of you needs to vent a little stress. It isn’t until now that he realises that it cuts both ways.
“What are we doing?” He asks gesturing between the two of you. “Because this, this clearly isn’t working.”
“I don’t fucking know anymore Mike.” You say sagging back into your seat. “All I can tell you is that right now it feels like someone has just ripped my heart right out of chest.”
“That’s exactly how I felt.” He tells you as he walks around to your side of the desk and kneels before you. “When I saw you at the Mayor’s Ball with Don Flack, if felt like you had rammed your stiletto straight into my rib cage.”
He cups your face between his palms, his lips brushing over the salt on your cheeks.
“I don’t want to do this anymore.” He whispers as he looks into your eyes. “All I want is to be with you.”

if you leave this kind of comment on any fanfic writer’s work or if you think this shit is okay and isn’t the reason more and more writers are choosing not to share their works with your entitled ass for free anymore, you should be ashamed of yourself.
if you suspect a fic is ai and if that bothers you, quietly close the tap and leave the fic. no one forces you to stay.
