Also keep in mind that in addition to shortening the enrollment period, 45 has also slashed the budget for getting word out, so it’s up to us.

Support Halalt Youth Society

So I had little success with my last post and I recall that when I did post it that it never entered into any of the tags I set. So I would like to try again, and hopefully this post format will help with that.

Uy Skweyul, I am currently the coordinator for Halalt First Nation tribe’s summer camp. I manage our camp leaders and help mentor them into leadership roles and have helped them plan a successful summer camp for our Tribe’s children. Our summer camp is 100% free for our community’s children and we currently have almost 30 children from ages 5-12 attending.  Throughout the summer we provide lunch to all of our children, fun games, teachings on a healthy clean community, and teachings from our community’s Elders. 

The program thus far has been a success. At the end of each summer we take our kids on a trip that many of them could not attend otherwise as several of our people do live below the poverty line. We would like to provide a trip to Vancouver BC’s Playland Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), on August 22nd. This trip will provide memories and give a chance for everyone to have a great close to the summer regardless of their family’s economic standing. Normally we are funded to go, but this year our sponsor couldn’t support us, leaving us to raise the funds.

If you could possibly do me and our people a great favour and possibly donate to our fundraiser. All profits go into our non-profit organization Halalt Youth Society. Our total goal is $3,500 Canadian dollars, of which we’ve currently raised a total of $400. We have been fundraising tirelessly within our community, but we are only 300 or so people strong to begin with and it’s been difficult. 

I completely understand that there are people who cannot afford to donate. Giving us a share here on Tumblr, or on Facebook would do us a lot of good as well!

As of the date of this posting we currently have 400/3,500 CAD We will continue to fund raise here in person with our community, but any help you could afford us would be wonderful.

You may have seen these fliers going around on social media and just to be safe I’m warning you all that this is false. It was posted maliciously on reddit and spread around to get undocumented immigrants to disclose their documentation status. Likely thinking that some would get reported on or whatever intentions that were had here. It’s spread so much that Starbucks even sent out memos to all their stores about this rumor. Spread the information that it is FALSE.

Stop HB2796

HB2796 is an absolutely blatant attempt to strip away the civil rights of transgender people; and it’s absolutely fucking terrifying.

Quoting the official summary of HB2796:

This bill prohibits the word “sex” or “gender” from being interpreted to mean “gender identity,” and requires “man” or “woman” to be interpreted to refer exclusively to a person’s genetic sex, for purposes determining the meaning of federal civil rights laws or related federal administrative agency regulations or guidance. No federal civil rights law shall be interpreted to treat gender identity or transgender status as a protected class, unless it expressly designates “gender identity” or “transgender status” as a protected class.

HB2796 is currently with the Republican-majority House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice. Please, PLEASE–especially if you’re cisgender, and doubly if you’re one of their constituents–call the Representatives on the committee and explain just how much damage this will do, how many lives it will destroy, and how many legislative careers (hopefully) hinge on its passage or failure.

This list is a terrifying clusterfuck of some of the worst Rs in congress: Steve King is a sponsor of the bill and a garbage human being, so it might not be worth calling him. I fully support calling Karen Handel. She had a tough race (RIP GA 06 and millions of DCCC dollars) so might respond to pressure. Louie Gohmert is also a piece of shit and won’t budge: he’s a hardcore bigot. I’d focus on DeSantis (don’t know shit about him but I used to live in his district as a kid. Was fairly red but it is small. Central FL, call him!), Franks (very far right extremist, but call anyway), and Handel as well as calling any Dems that represent you. I think to move the bill to the floor for a vote is just a majority of the committee. 2 Rs need to vote against.

In order of moveability: focus on Handel and DeSantis, then Franks. I’d put King and Gohmert as lost causes. If you live in an area not represented by these, call your reps, because this will probably make it to the floor.
