“Cadet Parker?”
Shiro approached the cadet, going over the details of her file in his head - seventeen years old, tested top of the communications applicants, orphan, loner. He wondered how she’d gotten permission to join before she turned eighteen, but figured her legal guardian had signed the necessary papers for her.
He held out his hand in greeting. “Hi. Sergeant Takashi Shirogane, but you can call me Shiro. Sergeant or sir when there’s brass around, though,” he added, winking.
"That would be me," she winced as her attempt to sound chipper fell flat, "Reporting for duty- sir?" Ugh she was going to have to get used to this whole 'respecting authority' thing. Or at least used to faking it again.
She took the offered hand. "Nice to meet you, Shiro. And Cal is fine under the same circumstances." At least he didn't seem to be too uptight, seem being the operative word. She would be perfectly fine with that. This time she didn't have to try to sound happy, "I can't wait to start."

If your character had a loaf of bread with a few spots of mold on it, would they throw the whole thing away, throw the moldy bits away and use the rest, or ignore the mold?

Running started out as something she did to get away from kids (or foster parents) that would try to hurt her, het brain would come up with all the possible escape routes she had mapped out for this very reason and calculate the best one.
After a while the running was less being chased and more letting her instincts take over and stop thinking about anything but the feeling of her feet hitting the ground and the blood rushing through her ears, she would run as hard as she could for as long as she could until she would collapse wherever she was, breathing heavily.
She never ran with a partner until AFTCI when training involved runs through the woods, over obstacles, and after or away from others. Suddenly Cal was being chased again, the fear of her youth was gone, replaced with excitement and determination, and hell if she wasn't going to win.
A grin stretched Cal's face as Dr. Nathaniel's goons ran after her- she loved this part.

Alexis sat in her car on the way home from work, listening to the radio and trying not to get too annoyed at the slow-moving traffic. The music cut out as she inched forward, and she reached out her hand to change the channel. It froze, centimeters away from the knob, when she heard a voice she was sure she’d never hear again.
“D-don’t change that channel! ‘Cause it’s t-t-time” the distorted voice of a cheesy announcer came from the speaker before, “Can you hear me? Please don’t go,” Cal paused, “I’ll admit I’ve been an asshole, but you need to know something.”
What the hell?
“Cal? Is that you?” she asked, looking around for a camera or other evidence that this was some sort of mind game. “What is it?”

like as much as i love icons and a good psd, sometimes its just tasking to do. and not everyone has great resources. so if you’re okay with having threads with no icons, please reblog this so that people know you’re okay with it. i feel like roleplayers today are too focused on the aesthetics and won’t follow people who use base icons or even none at all. it’s not about icons, but about the writing !!
