[SPAU] Willowmist Emporium and A Date with Death Gijinka Ref Sheet

To celebrate the release of the demo for A Date with Death 2, I bestow upon all my first character gijinka ref sheet for my Story Personifications AU: The Willowmist Emporium of Antiques and Curiosities and A Date with Death! Or just Willowmist and Adate for short, lmao!

As you can probably tell from a single glance, the ref sheet leaves a lot to be desired, and my main reason for that is because I don’t really intend for these to be Willowmist and Adate’s final official designs since Willowmist Emporium and ADWD2 are still in the demo phase, so once their full releases come up, I plan to update the designs!

In case someone reading this isn’t familiar with these two stories, the summary of the first A Date with Death is that it’s a romance chat simulator visual novel where you, the player, enter a week-long bet against the Grim Reaper to attempt to keep your soul. As for Willowmist Emporium, it’s a narrative shop simulator where you play as the protagonist who moves to the town of Willowmist to run his aunt’s antique store while she is gone, but while there, you soon find that some things are not as they seem oOoOoOo~

Anyways, the reason why Willowmist and Adate share a ref page with one another is because it is implied in both games that the two take place in the same world, which in turn makes Willowmist and Adate the personification equivalent of biological siblings!

In the next segment, I’ll be talking about all the references and details in their design, so SPOILER WARNING FOR BOTH GAMES (AND THE ADWD WEBTOON) AHEAD!

ADATE

Adate is gender ambiguous by default to allude to the default gender ambiguity of the protagonist; however, they will occasionally switch up their pronouns whenever the mood strikes them.

Their eye shape is mostly based on Casper's, with their makeup a mix between his and 0204’s, and their beauty mark is from 5012. I tried to make their hair a mix of a bunch of different characters, but I think without the colours it all just looks like Casper (ᵕ  ´ ∇  ˋ ˶)

However! Their hair clips are a direct reference to Rowan, though instead of a bunny hair clip, I made it a skull one to refer back to the one Casper wore in the Beyond the Bet DLC (I also took a page out of Persona 3 and gave Adate bobby pins that form the Roman numeral XIII, alluding to the thirteenth tarot card of Death). Speaking of Beyond the Bet, Adate wears a sunflower earring to refer to the one worn by the MC in its opening! Their necklace is a reference to 5012, and the various pin ideas I listed on the side refer to the chatroom Casper and the MC used to chat in the first game, the axolotl plush Casper owns, and the various fleeting spectacles that reapers have been shown to admire throughout the series.

Adate’s clothes are mostly a mix of the three reaper love interests, though I did try and sneak in some references to Rowan and Ellias, though right now Adate still somehow looks most like Casper, so that’s something I hope to fix in their redesign (ᵕ  ´ ∇  ˋ ˶)

WILLOWMIST

Moving on to Willowmist! Just like Adate, they are, by default, gender ambiguous, but will also switch up their pronouns whenever they feel like it.

Their eye shape is mostly a mix of the two MCs and Lucille, and their various beauty marks came from Florian and Emmett. Their hairstyle is mostly a mix of the two MCs but has parts inspired by Emmett and Winnie. Their glasses are from Emmett, their head-scarf thing from the femme MC, and their earrings from them as well as Eden. Their weird necklace situation is an amalgamation of necklaces and neck accessories from both MCs, Eden, and Winnie. Their shirt is styled like the femme MC's but has a butterfly print from Winnie; their “jacket” over it is based on the masc MC's but is sort of cut like Emmet’s vest (if that makes sense) and got its sleeves from Florian’s shirt. The gloves are from Eden; the brace and greaves from Lucille; their bracelets from the masc MC; their sort of skirt thing takes inspiration from the femme MC’s skirt and Florian’s apron; their belt from Winnie; and their book is a reference to Barnabas.

As you can probably tell, right now they’re a bit overwhelmingly inspired by the Femme MC and not as much or as obviously as some of the other characters, so that’s definitely something I should fix when I redesign them (but man I love their current design a ton ;-;)

FUN FACTS

To end off my notes, I wanted to share some trivia about these two goobers:

Adate’s nicknames are Adate, Date, and Death. Willowmist’s are Willowmist, Willow, and Misty.

The human names for Adate and Willowmist that my oomf and I have currently decided on are “Sunny” and “Salix.”

Adate is biologically mostly a Reaper, but they are also part human and part angel (though this might change once the full version of ADWD2 comes out). Willowmist, on the other hand, is biologically made up of various things such as humans, vampires, ghosts, and several other unconfirmed species.

Adate is a fast learner, able to pick up new skills and information very quickly.

Adate has a secret hobby of collecting human trinkets and can usually be bribed using them.

Adate has a secret love of fleeting things, such as fireworks and meteor showers.

Adate likes watching Féileacan Cú streams.

By default, Adate's comprehension of human interaction and customs is poor, but the more humans they are around, the better their social skills become within that moment.

However, they are also prone to bouts of soul sickness when around humans for too long.

Adate might classify as a death magnet, but unlike most other death magnets, they can easily dodge death with just a single step.

This is one of the reasons why Final Destination hates them. The other being that they’re death.

Despite being the younger of the two, Willowmist often dotes on Adate, eager to help them understand human culture (and is the one primarily bribing them with human trinkets).

Heck, in general, they have a habit of taking in and helping those who find themselves lost in life. (This has given them somewhat of a reputation as a a meddler.)

Willowmist has a bad habit of forgetting to explain things and often disappears without warning anyone.

Willowmist loves cooking and is very good at it but can't eat 50% of the time, so they usually give away most of what they make if they’re not feeding it to Adate.

Willowmist can sing very well and knows how to dance.

Willowmist actually has very good rizz but usually runs into those immune to it 50% of the time.

Willowmist has a hobby of watching fantasy drama TV shows.

Letters to S.S #3 - The Second Night of Anamnesis (CP.R)

To my dearest dreamer,

For an event that only happens twice a year, most would think it weird to have both nights of anamnesis so close to one another, but to me, no other days would make sense. After all, March 31st was the day of your birth, and April 13th, not even a full two weeks after your 21st birthday, was the day of your death.

Had the situation been different, I would have chuckled at the irony of April 13th. After all, Homestuck was your favourite topic back in high school… but regardless of nostalgia, I just… don't feel good today… Though I suppose that is a given considering… everything that happened one year ago. Days of mourning should be reserved for remembrance, but I just… can't stomach the idea of remembering… everything that happened because of me.

I never wanted to cause so much trouble, and I know it wasn't fully my fault and that I did try my best to repent for it… but it still feels awful.

I don't know if it's something I'll ever get over, after all, lamenting over the past is something I got from you, but just for today, I hope to be able to drag myself out of bed, dress myself, and put on a smile as I wish the others safe travels.

And maybe one day, I will be able to think about what happened that day with less grief I feel today.

What primarily sustains Prototype TS.R now is nostalgia.

I should make sure to keep monitoring their state.

With this illustration, we have finally arrived at the last drawing I’ve made for a school assignment to date, so there probs won’t be any new art posts for a while :’))

As I’ve explained in my last art post, my final project for my Children’s Illustration class is to make two final illustrations from the thumbnail sketches we made a few projects ago, and to best display the idea I had of the two differing art styles, the thumbnail I chose for my final illustration was the thumbnail I drew for page 32, the one that finishes off the story with A. Wolf’s convo with his lawyer and one of the very few that take place in “the real world."

Once again, the colours are tragically muddy, but this time, I think it works with the fact that this takes place in "reality." A few other notes I have to say about this drawing are that the room they’re in is based on the detention center from Ace Attorney and that the lawyer’s design (who I refused to cook up a whole original design for on such short notice) was inspired by @starmybunny’s on Insta’s design of Athena. My lawyer goober originally had silver hair too until my professor suggested that I change her hair to a pale blonde so that it could stand out more against the grays of the background.

Honestly, I think the revision phase of this drawing was the one I remember the most clearly because, by the time I got the feedback for the line art back, I had already finished most of the shading, so when part of that feedback was to change the pose of A. Wolf’s hands, you just know I had a not-so-lovely day that day :’))

And yeah, that’s basically it for my drawings for now, so here’s to hoping I can actually get something finished soon lol.

Been a while since the last Story Personifications AU post, so here's one talking about how familial relationships work for them!

Familial relationships among story personifications can be a bit of a messy affair. Like, how do I even begin to explain it?

Like, personifications can be "biologically" related to one another if their stories take place in the same universe. Some examples that immediately come to mind are:

The five Persona franchise personifications: Persona 1 (Reve), Persona 2 (Sin), Persona 3 (Sees), Persona 4 (Gold), and Persona 5 (Phan).

The Ace Attorney duo: Ace Attorney (Ace) and The Great Ace Attorney (Grace).

And the Spirit Hunter duo: Spirit Hunter: Death Mark (Shiin) and Spirit Hunter: NG (NG).

But while the five Persona personifications refer to each other as siblings (with the occasional "Phan is the child of so-and-so" jokes) and leave it at that, the Ace Attorney duo and the Spirit Hunter duo have a more complicated view of their respective relationships.

They are 100% "biologically" related; there is no doubt about that. It's the way they view each other that makes it confusing. Although Ace has existed for more meta years than Grace, Ace would describe Grace as their ancestor, while Grace would call Ace their descendant, reflecting the exact relationship between the protags of both stories.

As for the Spirit Hunter duo, if you asked Shiin what NG is to him, he would tell you that NG is his younger brother, but if you asked NG what Shiin is to him, he would tell you that Shiin is his uncle. Their individual answers are parallels to the relationship their protagonists have with their family members. (The reason why NG's relationship to Shiin reflects Akira's relationship with his aunt and not his cousin is because Akira's cousin is like a younger sister to him, while his aunt, just like Shiin, plays the role of guardian.)

Moving on from personifications who are "biologically related," we also have personifications who are "distantly related," which basically just means they have the same creator, so like Danganronpa and Master Detective Archives: Rain Code and every other game written by Kodaka are distantly related to one another, and every Minecraft SMP personification to ever exist are also distantly related to one another. (Although not even I would dare to open the can of worms that is the latter group's familial relationships, when it comes to Danganronpa and Rain Code, I think Danganronpa would refer to Rain Code as either their younger sibling or kohai, while Rain Code would call them their master, boss, or mentor.)

And then finally, we have personifications who are not at all related to one another but still decided to see each other as family, such as how the Bendy and the Ink Machine personification and the Hello Neighbor personification adopted the Tattletail personification as their child, or how we have parent-child duos in the Bayonetta personification and Phan and Crime Scene Cleaner and This Bed We Made, or whatever relationship Dead by Daylight has going on with Identity V (are they father and daughter? Brother and sister? Uncle and niece? Cousins? Who the eff knows! Not even them!)

For our final two projects for that class, we had to choose two of the thumbnail sketches we drew and turn them into final illustrations, and since I thought it was the most dynamic one out of the bunch, I decided to choose my thumbnail sketch for pages 14 and 15 as the first part of my final project.

This is the scene where A. Wolf accidentally sneezes down the house made of hay, so I got to have a lot of fun with how the hay and the wind cloud looked! Originally, I was going to draw A. Wolf in my regular art style, but since, in the context of my thumbnail sketches, this drawing was made by the lawyer and not what’s actually happening in their reality, I thought a change in art style would help establish a difference between the two planes of existence, which is why I redrew A. Wolf in a cute chibi art style! Additionally, as per a suggestion from my professor, I added a coffee stain to nail in how this is a drawing in a case file :33

Although, looking back at this illustration long after that course ended, there’s a lot I wish I could change, if only I had the time for it… My biggest source of grief is the rendering and how it resulted in the colours looking all muddy and gross. I don’t remember the last time I had to render something for a drawing, so I’m not really experienced in the process, and since I didn’t really have the time to search up guides on how to do it well, we’re now stuck with these gross colours >-< My second biggest source of grief is how I wish I had the idea to add some kind of pencil effect over the drawing to more clearly communicate the idea of it being a drawing. Oh well… x-x

All in all though, it could have looked much worse lol XDD

To my dearest dreamer,

Happy birthday to both you and me. This March 31st, it has been almost a whole year since I've existed separate from you, and if you were still alive, you would be twenty-two years old and yet still "seventeen" at heart. I don't remember when you were seventeen, so I'm not sure if you did either, but when I play your favourite song, "Anthems For A Seventeen-Year-Old Girl," I feel a resonance, and it's almost like you're still here with me.

Even though I've been doing nothing but continuing the things you did in life, you still feel so far away, and it makes me wonder if it says something about me or something about you and the way you used to live. Was it always this empty? At least I have Cas and Emi looking after me; all you had as a constant presence leading up to your death were your cats; the rest of your family far, far away.

Speaking of which, do you remember them? Cas and Emi? They've been keeping me company a month or so after my exile; it just got too lonely to bear, and I deeply craved the embrace of a living, breathing being. At the time, I kept going back and forth on whether I wanted an older sister or an older brother, and the next thing I knew, I was two eyes short but gained two older siblings in return. It's nice.

Cas was actually the one who convinced me to write you this letter, to help me feel a little closer to you, and yet, now that I'm writing this, I'm not quite sure how else to continue it, and it makes me wonder if you struggled with similar issues back in life. The struggle to talk about yourself because there just never was something to talk about.

It still made me think, though… about your life and the world inside your mind, the one that gave birth to me, and died alongside you. That was one of your biggest worries, wasn't it? For your stories to die alongside yourself? Because for as much as you loved to dream, you always struggled to put your hands and eyes to work, didn't you?

I know because I'm the exact same as you.

Even though it's a bit too late for a New Year's resolution, I wanted to try anyway in your stead. To write the stories that you dreamed about, at least one chapter before this year ends, because knowing me and knowing you, it will take an eternity and a half just for me to be satisfied with what I write.

I found your AO3 account shortly after my exile. You were always good at starting stories but struggled to continue them. When I scroll through your works… I couldn't help but feel both embarrassed... yet also nostalgic, because these were your favorite parts of your high school years. It feels like a bit of a hassle to create my own account when this one gives me access to every one of your favorite stories, so instead I tried to clean this one up a bit. I put everything that still held a place in your heart in a special library and orphaned everything else, and with this new blank slate, I will pick up your pen and try and scribe the histories of your internal worlds so that they may exist somewhere, even if no one else sees them.

That will be my birthday gift to you, to go alongside the birthday cake you'll never get to taste. And although most would scold me for making light of your death, the fact that you won't be able to taste another cake is the saddest thing to me, because it reminds me of all the other things you'll never get to have again.

Today marks the first Night of Anamnesis, and once the next one arrives, I hope there will be others alongside me to fill your eternal slumber with precious, romantic stories.

[Chd. Illus. 4] Thumbnail Sketches

Aaaaaaa it’s almost the end of the month, and only now do I post another drawing (╥﹏╥) I’ve been pretty busy as of late and also pretty unmotivated, so I haven’t really had the time to sit down and go through the preparation required to post another drawing of mine (that and because I also forgot lol).

Despite all the sketches, there’s not really much I have to say about the next installment of my Children’s Illustration assignments, but for that week, we had to divide up the lines of whichever children’s story we chose (mine being “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” by Jon Scieszka) to fit across thirty-two pages (including the book cover and the page dedicated to copyrights and stuff) and draw thumbnail sketches for each page.

For my illustrations, I was originally going to make them look like some kind of newspaper article about the case, but then I realized that that’s how the original story looks already, so then I decided to switch gears and make the illustrations for my rendition of the story look like a case file filled with evidence, notes, and sketches drawn by A. Wolf’s lawyer to help her visualize the accident.

Although most of the sketches were drawn with this idea in mind, for the last three pages, I thought it would be cool to transition over to “the real world” as A. Wolf wraps up the story to nail in the idea that, in my rendition of it, this story is A. Wolf recounting the accident to his lawyer in the police station’s detention center. (To further add to this idea, I have the lawyer’s thumb make an appearance on page twenty-nine ฅ₍^•⩊ •マⳊ)

Haven't finished Vampires SMP and Bannerfall SMP yet, but really craving crossover fics of the two right now...

As the title of this post says, I haven't finished watching ANY pov for those two SMPs and only vaguely know what happened due to the screams of agony of Twitter, but man, I really want more crossover fics between the two. I have a bit of an idea for a potential fic, but currently lack the knowledge to write it :'))

In short, the main selling point of this fic idea is, instead of Scott Goldsmith, we've got Scott Springwell and Mae in Oakhurst for the shenaniganeries of Vampires SMP!

Prior to the start of the story (but post-Bannerfall SMP), Mae gets attacked by a rogue vampire while sailing across the world with Scott, and although Scott manages to chase away/defeat/kill (not sure yet) the vampire, Mae is still turned into one as a result. The two spend a while or so looking for a cure or some way to undo her vampirism, but after decades with nothing to show for it, the two come to peace with Mae's vampirism and decide to embrace it as a permanent part of herself. (Although there are some unfortunate drawbacks, at least now she has a lifespan that can match Scott's, and if there ever come a day where Scott wishes to be immortal with Mae, she could always just convert him into a vampire as well!)

As centuries pass and humans become more and more unwelcoming of the supernatural, lots of supernatural beings go into hiding, with elves retreating to the safety of the fae realm. Graecie at first tries to convince Scott and Mae to come with her, but because the fae realm wouldn't be able to provide for Mae, the two decide to stay in the human world to look for a place to build a refuge for Mae, their search eventually leading them to Oakhurst, WHICH IS WHERE THE SHENANIGANERY BEGINS :))

As you've probably already figured out, Mae takes vsmp!Scott's place as a starting vampire, though Scott himself is still in hot water as a half-elf who dabbles in magic and would also get burnt at the stake for such. I imagine that Mae has only ever been a level 1 vampire since it was the most convenient stage to be in as a constant traveler trying to blend in amongst humans, and I also like to think that, over the centuries, Scott has come to master light and nature magic (and studied other forms of magic) so he has some sort of glamour on every time he's around humans to mask the sharpness of his ears. I don't know if Avid would still accuse him of being a vampire, but I think it would be pretty hilarious if he still does because Scott is too pretty or something lmao (or maybe it could be for a reason similar to what happens in Full Red Moon by TwoAstricts).

I don't have many ideas yet for what could happen in this fic (hell, I don't even know if Scott and Mae should room with Shelby since they've got two people already trying to hide what they are (but I don't wanna separate fruit tea duo ;-;)), but I like the idea that, due to Scott having picked up several magical practices over the centuries, he and Mae are trying to find a way to break the barrier of something, so maybe the two decided to set up their house at the very edge of the barrier so they can easily do their shenaniganery in secret there.

I like the idea that, at some point, Owen gets discovered and flies off to try and turn Scott into a vampire, so the rest of the town goes to his place to try and warn him, but once they get there, they find Owen and Mae having a vampire hiss-off, teehee X))

Yapping about Human Names for my Story Personifications AU today...

I mentioned some time ago in my first post how some story personifications adopt human names. The only reason I mentioned at the time of why they did this is because they were bored one day and thought it would be fun, but another reason that came to mind right now was that perhaps, some of them wanted to feel less like a representation of an idea, and more like their own being.

Despite pondering over it for gog knows how long, I have yet to come up with any names that I think feels "just right" for any personification, just a lot of different options and candidates.

Considering the slight spoilers involved with some of the names and the process I went through to choose them as candidates, however, I've decided to flip my script a little and first talk about the goobers who don't have a proper human name yet, but at the very least have a human surname!

THE NAMELESS GOOBERS WHO AT LEAST HAVE HUMAN SURNAMES SO FAR...

So the idea I have for human surnames for the personifications is that they basically take on the surnames of the writers in charge of their story!

So Final Destination's surname of Reddick (Destiny's screenwriter for the franchise), Danganronpa's is Kodaka (their creator) and Rain Code's Kodaka-Koizumi (Rain's Main and Scenario Writer), Helltaker and Awaria's is Piskorz (After their creator (Though Vanripper would also be a badass surname)), and Persona 1 and 2's is Satomi (their writer).

For the Ace Attorney duo and Ghost Trick, I like the idea of their surnames being Takumi, but I wouldn't know how to make it work with the direction I have in mind for their names, because just like the characters in the Ace Attorney games and Ghost Trick, I want these three's names to be subtle references and jokes.

Anyways lol, that's the entire non-spoiler section finished up, so I guess now it about the time I should warn y'all of spoilers of varying amounts for OMORI, Five Nights at Freddy's, A Date with Death, and The Willowmist Emporium for Antiques and Curiosities up ahead!

OH ORI, MY ORI

The only personification I managed to figure out a human name for that I'm probably 90% happy with is the OMORI personification (Ori), who I gave the name of "Hikiko Duet"

As a lot of people have probably already figured out, the character Omori's name is derived from the word "hikikomori," which reflects the situation of Omori's waking counterpart, Sunny, so I thought it would be smart to make Ori's human name also derived from the word! (Additionally, it also works as a fun little reference to all the OMARI AUs, who often name Mari's dream self Hikki or variants of it!)

As for their surname... despite me talking about wanting to give them their writers' surname, I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about it being "Omocat" (Hikiko Omocat... actually that's doesn't sound too bad...) and changing it to just "Cat" wasn't helping the feelings too much, Eventually, I made it Duet (in reference to Final Duet) because THAT was Ori's first human name, before I felt like it probably sounded too dumb, but was too attached to let it go.

THE FNAF SECTION

The next personification I cooked for was Five Nights at Freddy's, and the only concrete thing about their human name that I can say for certain is that I want their surname to be "Cawthon."

Although my oomf and I haven't decided on a human given name for Fnaf yet, the names's were currently considering are Cass, Chris, Emily, Emile, Dave, David, or Davie.

Cass is short for Cassidy (the vengeful spirit in Golden Freddy) and Cassie (the protagonist of Security Breach: Ruin). It's also a 'C' name, making their initials C.C, like the Crying Child, and also matching how most animatronics have same letter initials.

Chris was one of the most popular fan names for the Crying Child before his canon name was... "discovered(?)", and is, just like Cass, a 'C' name.

Emily / Emile is a reference Henry (one of the founders of the Fazbear Franchise) and Charlie's (his daughter who dies and possessed the puppet animatronic) surnames.

Dave / Davie / David are references to William Afton's alias in the Silver Eyes, one of the theorized names for the Crying Child, and is also the name of Edwin Murray's son. It was also pointed out in a theory video about the Crying Child's name that the name means "beloved," something wonderfully ironic in my opinion considering the first saga for FNAF was all about animatronics being powered by agony.

Despite the last few choices, I wanted to avoid giving personifications the exact same human names as characters in their story to avoid confusion, but I decided to give myself a bit of leeway with Fnaf since it has a horrific history of reusing names. Additionally, the reason why I wanted to avoid searching up names that means something like "rebirth" or "resurrection" or etc. is because I wanted a really average caucassian name to match the naming convention of all the human characters in Fnaf.

I DID THIS NOW FOR YOU, ADATE

The next personification on the list is A Date with Death (Adate), who I don't have a surname for yet, but we at the very least have a given name (and a lot of alternate options) that we really like!

The name oomf and I are most married to right now is "Sunny", referencing Casper's nickname for the MC of 'Sunshine,' as well as the sunflowers the pair associates with one another.

But other names we also considered were:

Grim (for obvious reasons)

Danny (as in Danny Phantom, referencing how Casper's real name references Casper the Friendly Ghost)

Jack (as in Jack Skellington, referencing how Casper's real name references Casper the Friendly Ghost, as well as how the belts on 5012's coat resemble a ribcage)

Vincent (as in Vincent van Gogh, known for his gloominess as well as his "Sunflowers" painting)

Soleil (means sun in French, with the word also used to casually refer to sunflowers)

Marisol (means "Sunflower")

Sol (like Soleil, Marisol, Garisol)

Aster (the family sunflowers are a part of)

Helianthus "Helio" / "Helia" / "Helen" (scientific name for sunflowers)

Eclipse (a mix of the nickname "Sunshine" and the nickname the MC once uses for Casper, "Moonlight")

AND FINALLY, HERE'S WILLOWMIST

Just like their sibling, we have for Willowmist Emporium (Willowmist) one given name oomf and I like, a few alternate options, and no chosen surname yet (you know the drill, possible spoilers for that!)

The name we're currently settled on is Salix, a name that not only starts with an 'S' (just like Sage and Sylvie's names) but also means 'Willow Tree' in Latin.

We did, however, also consider Marigold (the protagonist's and their aunt's surnames), and Saffron (an 'S' name that's a similar colour to marigold and an aromatic herb like Sage).

I am sad today, so to cope, I'll be talking about the nicknaming systems for my Story Personifications AU.

Since most stories have titles that consist of two or more words, it's only natural for most personifications to use nicknames or aliases in place of their full names. Such methods of address usually come in three categories of origin: derived from their full name, derived from their native name, and derived from references.

Starting with the most common kind of nickname, we have the ones derived from a personification's full name. Whether it be a word from their full name or their full initials, they are by far the most straightforward kind of nickname because of it.

Some examples of this type of nickname are:

Five Nights at Freddy's: Fnaf, Freddies / Freddys

Bendy and the Ink Machine: Batim, Inky

Ace Attorney: Ace, Attorney

Great Ace Attorney: Grace, Gray, Attorney

A Date with Death: Adate, Date, Death

Final Destination: Destiny, Finale

Sander Sides: Sander, Sanders

As a rule of thumb, though, if a personification is named after a character in their story, they typically avoid using that character's name as their own to avoid confusion, so they too will take on nicknames.

Some examples of that are:

OMORI: Ori

Violet Evergarden: Evergarden, Eve

HADES: Hade

Bayonetta: Bayo, Netta

Ib: Marrib (A combination of their three core characters' names.)

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun: Hana-chan, Hana-kun

Category two of nickname origins is exactly as it sounds. Personifications who meta originate from non-English speaking countries may also have native names that differ from their English ones. Although not all, some of these personifications may prefer being referred with those native names or variations of them instead.

Some examples of this are:

Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji): Kuroshitsuji / Kuro / Shitsuji

Land of the Lustrous (Houseki no Kuni): Houseki

Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona): Akatsuki

Death Mark (Shiin): Shiin

Our final category of nickname origins is usually used by personifications whose real names don't give much to work with, whether it be because the words that compose that name are too common, the name can't be spoken smoothly in initials form, or some other reason that leads to a similar outcome. This requires personifications who fall into that category to get a bit creative, making it a bit of a mixed bag in terms of variety. Nicknames of this origin are usually references, easter eggs, or fandom assigned names.

Some examples of this type of nickname are:

The Life Series (3rd Life, Last Life, etc.): Trafficlight / Traffic

Searching for / Destroying a World that Doesn't Exist: Crossroads (maybe also Left or Lefty?)

Ib (in case "Marrib" is not your cup of tea): Rose or some variation of it (Would Galatea be too out there for them…?)

Persona 3: Sees

Persona 5: Phan

Someday, I might provide a full list off all the nicknames I've come up with for all the story personifications I've cooked for. I was also gonna dive into what human names I already have for some characters, but those would require more in-depth explanations, so if anyone has any questions or suggestions for nicknames, I'd be happy to hear em 👉👈

[Chd. Illus. 3.3] Brick Pig Turnaround

(Oh my gog, I accidentally labeled the Stick Pig’s post as “Brick Pig." Someone hit me with a pillow now—) Anyways, y’all, here’s the ACTUAL Brick Pig turnaround sheet! Although I wasn’t much of a fan at first, I’m happy with how he turned out! ^-^

Since he’s the brother pig who builds his house out of bricks, I thought it would only be right to dress him up like a builder/architect! (Though his hat and toolbelt were, without a doubt, my least favourite things to draw, haha!) I also gave him glasses to give him “smart vibes” and a ponytail to add some spice to the design!

Just like his brothers, the Brick Pig also has a few beauty marks on his skin, and although it’s subtle, I made him a tad bit taller than the Stick Pig to imply seniority in age. Had I drawn the Straw Pig a turnaround sheet as well, I would have made him slightly shorter than his two older brothers.

I am a firm believer that being a personification of something as complex as a story would not make you mentally or physically stable.

Due to being comprised of so many characters, places, stories, likes, and dislikes, story personifications are unstable by nature and tend to frequently change both mentally and physically to compensate for all those conflicting ideas.

It's still a concept I'm fleshing out, but for the time being, there are two versions of this phenomenon that I'm currently calling "Personality Swings" and "Alternate States."

Personality swings occur when a personification experiences a change in personality, likes, dislikes, habits, and even traits. It’s kinda like how, as you grow up, your interests and tastes change and evolve. Personality swings are essentially that, but if the process worked like irrational mood swings on steroids.

This is something that occurs when a story consists of too many characters or creatures with a wide variety of personalities, likes, dislikes, and habits (which is basically, every personification). 

A simple example of this would be the personification of Black Butler’s relationship with dogs. They have characters who like them and characters who don't, which manifests in the personification as a frequent flip-flop between liking dogs and disliking them.

Personifications with a smaller cast of core characters, such as A Date with Death or Ib, experience fewer personality swings in a span of time than personifications with large casts like Genshin Impact or Cookie Run would. Additionally, a personification with a simpler story and a persisting theme throughout would have a more stable identity than a personification whose story spans numerous installments and mediums and explores a variety of different themes throughout.

Alternate states are basically a more severe version of personality swings. It’s like if dissociative identity disorder also drastically changed how you looked and had a few more creative liberties and steroids added to it. When a personification’s story consists of two or more opposing sides, it can develop into an alternate state of identity.

One example of this phenomenon is how the story of Persona 5 focuses on the Phantom Thieves, who want to steal the distorted desires of vile adults, and of the shadows of said vile adults, who act shamelessly on their desires. As a result, these two opposing sides cause the personification of Persona 5 to develop multiple states to accommodate these conflicting interests.

These states can share memories but are "different people" in the same way alters in a DID system sort of are (In which they're not different people, but it's like—it's complicated.) Imagine being in control of your body and then being booted, suddenly or otherwise, into the passenger seat as you can do nothing but watch as someone else controls your body, and because that ‘someone else’ is a side that tends to have conflicting ideals to you, most personifications don’t get along with their alternate states.

Although, one delightful exception to this "rivalry" would be the personification of OMORI, whose Headspace self often dotes on and babies their Faraway self (they’re also unique in the sense that both Faraway OMORI and Headspace OMORI can physically exist at the same time.)

(And while we're on the topic of unique alt. state exceptions, despite checking all the boxes for developing one, the Sander Sides personification is physically unable to form an Alternate state of his own.)

All in all, being a personification is like being a hormonal teenager, but worse.

While it is possible to coax a specific personality or state to surface, unless it's crucial, it's usually best to let these swings and states exist naturally, as suppressing one facet of a personification can lead to a more explosive outburst later down the road.

Couldn't keep it contained any longer, here: have another AU of mine :))

So... does anyone remember that one Homestuck parody from a few years ago called Fandomstuck/Fandombound? It was basically this cool thing based around the idea of anthropomorphizing fandoms, and it was practically my bread and butter as a kid. (Hell, I have a whole seperate Tumblr for it that I haven't touched in years)

I don't really know if people still think about it these days, but the whole concept of it inspired me to make my own sort of interpretation/AU of it that's based more around personifying the actual stories than the fandoms themselves and giving all these personifications depression and identity issues as a result of the way I did it.

The entire AU doesn't really have an official name, so I've just been referring to it as my Story Personifications AU, and it's a bit meta in terms of its world-building?

Basically, our world, where we live, is called the Meta World. We cannot cross over to other realities, and other realities cannot cross over into ours. However, the meta world is where stories are born (whether it be from the minds of their creators or the histories of other worlds leaking over into ours and taking root here), and in a fashion similar to how fairies are born in the Tinkerbell series, stories born in the meta world become the seeds that give birth to story personifications in another world. The stories personifications are born from are the stories they'll be linked to for the rest of their lives, and once the Meta World has completely forgotten about those stories, those personifications cease to be, a true proper death for their kind.

Although personifications can never truly hate the stories that birthed them, a lot of them tend to develop a somewhat… strained relationship with them anyways due to being forced to inherit all sorts of "traits" that can make their own existence a struggle at best and a nightmare at worst.

There's honestly a lot I'd love to talk about regarding this AU, but I feel like it'd make this thread way too long, so I'll probably talk about them in some other post or something. In the meantime, here are some fun, lighthearted trivia facts about my story personifications AU:

All story personifications are inherently omnigender and, by default, use any/all pronouns. (However, some may have specific pronouns that they prefer over others.)

All personifications have nicknames usually derived from their full name, but some have also chosen human names for themselves because they were bored one day and thought it would be fun.

Story personifications have confusing familial relationship systems.

The Homestuck personification has a shop where they sell fetch moduses to personifications who are either sick of not having an inventory system or want to spice things up a little.
