The KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act) bill has passed House approval and needs to only go through the Senate to be officially passed into law.
A reminder that this bill does NOTHING to protect children.
It does not hold companies accountable for intentionally targeting them to get them addicted to algorithms.
It doesn’t hold them accountable for not acting/actively pushing back against acting when genuine dangers are presented to minors (i.e Roblox)
It doesn’t call to take online abuse seriously, it does not do ANYTHING to actually help children.
What it DOES do is censor YOU.
It serves to force creators to have to consistently have their content be “child-friendly.”
It forces age verification and giving over far too much information to a company like META that has a history of selling our information for profit just to post a picture or share an opinion.
It is an excuse for the American government to have a tighter grip on the freedoms we have, which are running out more and more each day with the current administration.
We all know that they are not in the interest of protecting children. Looking at the news for one minute would be able to reflect that.
This bill would allow companies and actual dangerous people on the Internet to gain more unneeded information about users and children.

I know it’s basically a Hail Mary (personally, mine basically dismissed my previous concerns with corporate speak) but:
A: It’s far better than doing nothing
B: I’d say that it’s not enough to simply explain the actual dangers behind this bill to a representative. We need to stop treating politicians like they’re reasonable people. They aren’t. What we need to be doing is use their interests against them and remind them of who’s actually meant to have the power. The people.
If they agree with this bill, tell them point blank that you will be voting them out come the time to vote. Tell them you are a non-voter and this will sway you to vote for their opposition. Threatening the power that they have by using the power that you have is what needs to be done.
Voting is the power of the American people and it is in the best interest of those people that we use it to our full advantage.
