@captainamericaaesthetic
Hey, y'all.
If you use DoorDash, InstaCart, GrubHub, postmates, or any other service like that for delivery -
Tip. In. Cash. Not via the app. I did these three deliveries today. One guy wanted me to get six dollars in tip. I got no tip, because these services use tips to pay their drivers' wages.
Tip in cash, or not at all.
i work for DoorDash and they claim to âgive us 100% of tipsâ, but they just take that out from what theyâd pay us. in my area its even worse, base pay is $5
(Image description: three receipts from DoorDash payments to the OP. All three start with $1 as "door dash base pay," then add in the customer tip, then add "doordash additional pay" to make all three magically come out to exactly $7.)
The New York Times apparently exposed this not long ago. Vox quotes them here:
"DoorDash offers a guaranteed minimum for each job. For my first order, the guarantee was $6.85 and the customer, a woman in Boerum Hill who answered the door in a colorful bathrobe, tipped $3 via the app. But I still received only $6.85.
"Hereâs how it works: If the woman in the bathrobe had tipped zero, DoorDash would have paid me the whole $6.85. Because she tipped $3, DoorDash kicked in only $3.85. She was saving DoorDash $3, not tipping me."
Instacart does it too. From the same June 2019 article:
"In February, the grocery delivery app Instacart was the subject of outrage for the same practice; afterward, it publicly apologized and announced that it would begin paying its workers with a new structure that increased baseline pay from $3 to between $7 and $10.
"Voxâs Chavie Lieber spoke to one Instacart employee in May, however, who said that these âfixesâ have left her with even less pay than before. âInstacart says our payments are based on some sort of algorithm, but they arenât transparent with us and none of us know how the payments work,â she said, adding that her income has dropped by 30 percent.
"Instacart at the time told Vox its payment system was redesigned âto improve, enhance and create clarity around shopper compensation.â
"Like many apps, Instacart offers ways for workers to earn bonus pay, by, for instance, receiving a five-star rating from a customer. But the Instacart employee said that the company had made it far more difficult for customers to find the review tool.
"She also said that the default tip had been dropped to just 5 percent."
The article says that DoorDash claimed it was going to change their policy... but that Instacart had also claimed to change it, and that their drivers were still seeing tips made right in front of them that never got paid out.
This is infuriating.
The entire reason I use apps like these is when I am too exhausted and spoonless to go out. I am the only driver in my family. I used Instacart a lot when I was in chemo last year.
If I am too tired to go out, I am too tired to go out to an ATM to get cash. Cash does not magically appear in my pocket; I have to get it.
My intent in tipping an employee through the service is to give them extra money to thank them for their service, while also not having to go out, which defeats the entire purpose of using the app. The idea that the company can subvert my intentions by stealing the tip for themselves is outraging.
So now I canât use these services unless I happen to have cash? Because if I need the services, Iâm too tired to go get cash? Thanks, soulless corporate motherfuckers. Pay your employees an actual wage. Iâm so tired of this shit.
^^^^ This. I canât drive. Itâs likely that, given my age, I will never learn how. Itâs difficult for me to get to banks to get cash. So, now I canât get food delivered without spending more money to go out and get money? I agree with AlaraJRogers here. People need to fucking pay their employees instead of pulling this bullshit.
@alarajrogersâ and @bullet-farmerâ : Weâre not technically employees, weâre independent contractors, which is the only reason they can get away with this -- in Nevada âTipped employeeâ wages are illegal.
Thatâs why I said, âtip in cash or not at all.â Iâm cool with you not tipping. Most Dashers are. If you tip more than $6 weâre getting that as a tip, as well. But if youâre not, just donât tip! It forces DoorDash to pay the extra. We donât know if youâve tipped or not until after our shift anyway.
I work for Shipt, so I will add that we do get to keep 100% of our tips! We have a base pay of $5 per order, plus 7.5% of the receipt total. So higher $ orders earn us more money. So if I did an order that was $100 at the store, I get $5 plus 7.5%, $7.50, which is $12.50, plus whatever the customer tips me. I donât have a preference of cash or in app. In app just means it goes on my paycheck at the end of the week, but I would have to claim it on my taxes.
no more discourse. only mr. marble.
Additionally
I do not exaggerate when I say Marble is my favorite creature on this earth
Golden Girls was more progressive decades ago than half of America now.
Here be some of the positive female role models me and my bro had growning up
Nicholas J Fury spent one weekend in the 90s hanging out with a cool lesbian and then spent the next twenty years trying and failing to find another superhero with her general degree of competence or emotional maturity
nick fury watching the events of civil war unfold: carol wouldnât do this to me
no offense but bucky not remembering what he does as the winter soldier makes his & samâs rivalry so much funnier
sam: you know im STILL not over the time when you ripped out my carâs steering wheel!
bucky: the time i WHAT
Iâm just gonna post this everywhere and hope he sees this one day.
ha ha ha look at that high waisted man, he got feminine hips
Leave him alone heâs sensitive about that
There are a lot of times I feel like justâŚflipping the vegan script.
Itâs not âpolyesterâ itâs plastic
Itâs not âvegan leatherâ itâs plastic
Its not âfaux furâ itâs plastic
Plastic is a pollutant and causes far more damage to the environment both now and in the future than leather or wool.
Please stop telling me that the Plastic Lyfe is the only life, it is not. My leather shoes will last a decade where pleather is lucky to last 12 months. Leather (and wool) decompose and are renewable. Plastic is neither of those.
THANK YOUUUUUUU~
A single wash cycle of plastic-based fiber (polyester, poly fleece, faux fur) may release 700,000 pieces of microplastic into our waters. Nasty stuff.
aw dangit
Wool is the most environmentally friendly fabric despite being an animal product.
Using wool isnt even harming sheepÂ
Sheep need to be sheered or else it will cause serious problems. Itâs a mutual relationship, we help sheep get rid of the pesky wool and it gives us a very useful material.
This has been a Burning Hot Takeâ˘
Also chickens will lay eggs no matter what!! Thatâs literally what chickens do!!! You are not eating âchick embryosâ!!! If youâre worried about supporting the corporate mass farming industry, buy from a local free-range chicken owner! Almost anywhere has farmerâs markets!
This is the part where we talk about how the demand for agave nectar as an alternative to honey is destroying the habitat of the endangered long-nosed bat, which lives on agave.
honestly, if you have access to a farmerâs market, chat with the vendors there. just by being friendly with farmers i get some really great deals, like discounts or extra produce. not that you should expect that, farmers deserve a fair price for their goods, but being friendly can go a long way.
iâve been getting eggs from the same farmer for 10+ years and i know that those hens are treated well. in fact, i bring that farmer my compostable food scraps to feed to her chickens and goats, so i know those hens get treated to pineapple cores and watermelon rinds. iâve visited the farm where my raw milk comes from, i know those cows are happy and healthy.Â
if youâre really concerned about animal welfare, make friends with your local farmers and beekeepers and support the ones who treat their animals and bees well.
bonus:
Brooke Lynn Hytes being a whole mood in Untucked.
plastique: i have felt that there is a genuine unhappiness in my family as a result of who i am as a person and they know iâm a performer but they do not support me or understand me
plastiqueâs boyfriend [trying to be tactful, not knowing how much plastique will have revealed]: i love you and support you and iâm hopeful that getting to see what you do and how well you do it will help your family come around even though they havenât always been supportive
raâjah: SO WHATâS THE TRUTH BITCH
me and brooke lynn:
My dad is a kroger manager and sent me this (repost without personal info)
they thought 1 lb stood for âone little beanâ
Iâm absolutely losing it
ok but this is a running joke cause I work for Shipt and when someone orders produce itâs by the each (so if they want 6 bananas they put in 6 and I grab 6, rather than them saying they want 1lb of bananas) so this makes sense for things like apples and most large produce but for green beans itâs SO funny because it looks like they just want a single green bean and it confused me so much when I got green beans for the first time đ
Some of you guys are like, Be Gay Do Crime, but are also like, Shoplifting makes you evil and youâre personally stabbing into peopleâs paychecks if you steal
Because you are. Workers especially at smaller stores will get docked pay/hours for thefts. The crimes gays should do is like. Graffiti. Loitering. Violiating bullshit like rainwater collection laws and also political assassinations. Not fucking over Carl at Boxlunch because you wanted the sombra funko pop or whatever
Please stop spreading this lie. It was literally created to pit poor people against poor people. It is illegal for your employer to dock your pay for theft. They are responsible for loss prevention and almost every company has a shrinkage account specifically to cover miscounts, theft, and other inconsistencies in stock. Anyone who has studied accounting or business management knows this.
If your employer EVER docks you for theft that you did not commit, they are in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
It is theft for them to dock or deduct your pay, unless you stole AND they can prove you committed the crime. Go to HR, your union, the police, etc. immediately. Checking out free legal help is also beneficial.
Be gay, do crimes, know your rights.
Honestly, this is one hell of a mood
