phoebe and jasmine are as CUTE AS IT GETS

phoebe knew absolutely noooobody when she moved to jasmine’s city and if jasmine hadn’t reached out to her, there’s a good chance she would’ve been lost and overwhelmed enough to just turn around and go back to her unsafe unhappy home, and she thinks about that a lot. phoebe’s just kind of in a constant state of wow, how did i get this girlfriend??? this girlfriend is too good at girlfriending what the hell happened here

jasmine is constantly enamored with all the itty bitty things phoebe does. on more than one occasion jasmine has just kind of like, wistfully sighed something like “you know the way you start tapping on the corner of the fridge door when you’ve almost decided what you want to get out of it” as phoebe is doing the thing and she goes “what” “it’s adorable. i love it. i love you”

jasmine could never quite articulate why she’s in love with phoebe if she was ever asked? jasmine loves phoebe because she plays with her earrings the way some people play with their hair because hers is too short. because she can’t buy a new skirt without buying a new headband too unless she’s 100% sure one of the ones she already has matches it. because she owns way more headbands than anyone has any right to, especially someone with a pixie cut. because she found the pictures of phoebe’s teenage punk phase where she had a goddamn tongue piercing (“was that MAGIC” “no oh my god susanna just HAD A NEEDLE AND” “oh my god, ohhhh my GOD phoebe”) and they both laughed until they started crying. because phoebe knows the scientific name of every single plant in jasmine’s garden, even the ones she can’t use for her medicines. because she has calculated exactly how much pet food she needs to feed every single stray in the area and has incorporated it into her monthly budget.

they have the most obnoxious dates; sharing drinks with two straws at little round tables under umbrellas at cafés, playing at empty playgrounds and falling off the balance beam, if there’s a carnival or fair in town you bet your ass they’re going to go on it and phoebe is going to drag jasmine on EVERY SINGLE RIDE even though jasmine’s like, is this roller coaster REALLY necessary (it is. every single of them is until one of them upchucks). they watch bad movies together curled up on their couch; they try to make it a weekly tradition for a little while, and it doesn’t last for too long but while it does they spend the next few days after they’ve watched the movie quoting it at each other and giggling. they go on lots of walks together and if they ever get to a mud puddle phoebe uses magic to float jasmine just a few inches off the ground above it; jasmine giggles into her hands the entire time.

eventually they get married and they get matching tattoos of witch hazel flowers and phoebe goes, witch hazel’s one of the main ingredients in love potions you know, and jasmine goes but you told me love potions weren’t actually a thing, and phoebe makes a bouquet out of witch hazel and puts it in one of her potion vials and leaves it on the kitchen table on a day she leaves the house before jasmine wakes up. just because.

her werewolf powers work mostly on command

the closer it is to a full moon, the easier transforming into a wolf is and the harder transforming back is; vice-versa as the new moon approaches

on a full moon, she'll be a wolf until it's gone whether she likes it or not. on a new moon, she can't transform at all

the closer it is to a new moon the more feral and the less cognizant she is in wolf form—on the night of a full moon she's like, tearing shit apart, biting everything, ripping apart small animals, and never quite remembers what the fuck happened. vice versa with new moons, ofc

for the most part she has everything under control but slips up sometimes, and is more prone to it when she's sick—she'll hiccup and sprout a tail, or sneeze and have a snout, get mad/scared/threatened and start to growl or bark and suddenly she has fangs. this is significantly less likely to happen from wolf to human

sometimes she gets "stuck" in this kind of halfway anthro form but can't really hold it on command

if she's in one form for too long, switching back gets a little difficult and painful

she's an illicit child—her (super religious) mother had an affair with a dude she didn't know was a werewolf and OOPS, THE BASTARD BABY INHERITED THE WEREWOLF GENE, and she was completely convinced it was a ~curse~ put on her as punishment for her affair. she fessed up and apologized right away and things have since been fixed

she's not too close to her parents though, especially her not-dad, but her relationship with her siblings is totally fine and they're super close

transforming into a wolf always ruins her clothes so she tends to wear ugly sweaterdresses so she won't be upset when they rip. she's learned to keep extra clothing on hand at all times

when she was like 10 she tried to show two of her friends her cool wolf powers—one got terrified and threw shit at her, trying to hurt her and make her go away, and the other was always frightened and apprehensive around her, trying to keep their distance—afterwards the family ended up moving away

sooooo she works really hard to keep her lycanthropy a secret because she's terrified of losing friendships and having people fear her

she gets REALLY OVERBEARING sometimes because she works really hard to be a REALLY AWESOME SUPER GOOD FRIEND in hopes of making up for some of her Weird Werewolf Behaviors

she used to wear earrings except she transformed once with them in and they ripped right through; she has little scars on her earlobes now

lycanthropy gets transferred if she bites someone else in werewolf form

she's weak to silver; being in direct contact with it burns her skin and it gets worse the longer she's touching it. she tells everyone she has a skin condition

she has a phobia of dogs. her first full moon was fun

her body hair grows really quickly so she usually wears covering clothes instead of trying to shave. her eyebrow game is strong and untamed and she has to get regular haircuts from her big brother but she keeps her hair long

a witch from the same verse as phoebe (and jasmine but jasmine's not a witch so she doesn't count)

she lives in a witch town

more accurately she lives in the woods right by a witch town, which is not very uncommon. it's like a ten minute walk into the heart of town from her cute tiny house and an even shorter broomstick ride so she basically counts as being part of the town

she has fire magic which is unfortunate because absolutely none of the things she likes to do involve burning

she has to wear big bulky gloves all the time because she can't figure out how to spellcast without burning herself

she wears a really big floppy sunhat. it's cute

she has tan skin and a really round face and a very round chin

she uses singing as a conduit to her magic, because just going SPELLCASTING GO takes a lot of practice anyway, and while traditionally wands are used, she just struggles to use wands and kind of just makes things worse when she tries using them to make fire? she can never quite explain how it works but something about singing makes the energy in her travel in a way that she can send it where she needs to, i.e. her hands

unfortunately she has this awful habit of singing as she does stuff and sometimes her hands just ACCIDENTALLY LIGHT ABLAZE. this is highly infrequent but there is no "mild" when it comes to lighting things on fire

she gardens a little bit. mostly she likes animals

she wants to be a disney princess and sing and summon cute woodland creatures but no, she just summons fire

a girl who falls in love with an AI and she learns how to build robots so she can make her significant other a body

this was on my desktop and i just looked at it after recovering some of my old files; it was a thing we did in our writing group where we were supposed to try to write 100 sentences in a time limit about one of our characters (while trying to start as few of them as possible with a pronoun). i did eight. i want this file outta here so i'm putting the things here

If Syrene's attention isn't captivated completely, she'll very quickly find something else to do.

As excellent as she is with coordinating her outfits, she can't style her hair for beans.

That said, her skills with cosmetics are exceptional.

She prefers to wear skirts and dresses, but doesn't have anything against pants if they suit the outfit.

The weight of responsibility is too much for her to bear; she's terrified of losing her carefree lifestyle and so she dismisses, trivializes, and buries anything that threatens it.

When she was younger, Syrene wanted to be a model, but it didn't take her long to realize that wearing nice clothes wasn't nearly as fun if she had no involvement in their creation.

The only one who consistently listens to and aids in remedying Syrene's many woes as if they're all legitimate regardless of how dramatic and petulant Syrene is acting is Andy, who is not significantly older but still acts somewhat as a mother figure.

More often than not, Syrene's first impression is the best opinion that people have of her; her bubbly amicability very quickly loses its charm, and the longer someone knows her, the more prominent her dramatic behavior becomes.

NAME OF TOWN: Wivern City

Built by and against a mountainside.

Big, busy, and bustling; a major destination for travelers in particular, offering places for hikers to prepare for and rest after trips up the mountain.

The gym is repurposed from a small castle built in the side of the mountain. A long and beautiful staircase spirals up to it. Naturally, Tanith flies back and forth on her dragons.

Notable for the few ancient monuments scattered about the area (mostly on or near the mountain): statues of legendaries, carvings of runes or depictions of mythology, etc. All of these are left undisturbed.

APPEARANCE: Tanith is 5’6”, but has long since mastered the art of walking in heels that bring her up to an imposing 5’10”. She has light brown skin and hair that is almost black. It’s a little wavy, and she has it grown out past her waist. Almost always, she wears it with a braid crown over the top of her head, and makes two braids out of part of her hair that she brings over her shoulders to hang past her chest, while the rest is pushed back. She’s fairly thin and not terribly curvy, but chooses clothes that provide the illusion of a fuller figure.

She favors long, full skirts and dresses made with flowing fabric and exquisite patterns. If we can walk in it, then it's casual—and she does own plenty of less imperial outfits, even if most people don't consider her wide bell and umbrella skirts and A-line dresses to e very practical, either. Her jewelry, of course, always matches. She has a particular preference for rings.

One notable accessory is a sapphire pendant always on her person, even if tucked underneath her clothes. It is a perfect replica of the gem on her Dragonair's chest.

And of course, what kind of princess would she be without a crown? She wears a small silver tiara adorned with small, colorful jewels at all times, just behind her crown of braids.

SOME BRIEF BACKSTORY STUFF: First things first, Tanith is a princess. She comes from a vaguely faraway land where battling Pokémon for sport just isn’t the norm. Regardless, she found herself to be quite passionate about them, and came to Jedoch to better hone her skills. Her stay, now approaching two years long, is presented as her being an ambassador of sorts. When it comes up, she speaks as if it’s going to be temporary, but seems reluctant to leave the region anytime soon.

PERSONALITY: Tanith presents herself as everything royalty ought to be: she is elegant and graceful, always just the right amount of gently feminine and gracefully mature. At the same time, she carries an intimidating presence; she is stoic, firm in purpose and speech, and an immediate and natural leader regardless of the situation. Danger does not deter her; she is brave and full of ambition.

The thing is, though, that this imperial behavior is a well-constructed act. Actually, Tanith is very easily irritated, gets too excited about things, prattles in high pitches about her passions, and snorts hideously when she laughs. She’s just very good at suppressing all of that. At best, her emotional self-expression is through anger that any negative emotions get channeled into. Crying and worrying make her weak, she thinks, but anger at least commands authority through fear. There are ways that royalty is supposed to be, so Tanith has learned, and she’s determined to seem regal and powerful like she should; if she doesn’t, that makes her a failure of a princess, and her ineptitude will ruin everything.

As such, she strives to be an excellent leader. Tanith takes an active role in whatever’s going on around her. She’ll be the first to take charge, make plans, and act on them. In almost every case, she knows what she’s doing when she coordinates things. Even so, her determination to take over everything often leaves her overwhelmed, and she never asks for help. She’s fiercely independent; anything less would be a weakness. She puts too much stock and pride in her perceived strength.

And when she’s beat to the punch on a leadership position, she isn’t happy. To her it’s a matter of power, and being made secondary or subordinate is a question of hers. Though she’s not the type to be outright nasty to someone intending no harm, she’ll be feeling awfully hissy the whole time, and being infuriatingly passive-aggressive, trying to find a way to get her input through and over all else the whole time.

Though Tanith generally avoids aggression, she certainly isn’t docile. If treated with cruelty, she won’t hesitate to deal it right back: she’s easy to annoy and full of pent-up frustration just waiting for an excuse to explode. Tanith is scary when she’s mad. Even if fear deters someone from crossing her twice, it’s unlikely to be enough. Tanith holds one hell of a grudge: just letting someone off scot-free after wronging her would make her seem soft.

As awful as this all puts her out to be, Tanith really is compassionate to anyone who hasn’t given her a reason not to be—just at a distance. She wants what’s best for everyone, but struggles to get close to individuals. The mask gets in the way: she works so hard to seem like she’s something more than human that she becomes more of an image to most people, so they end up interacting and connecting with her unfaltering facade instead of her. She never lowers her walls enough for anything else.

Despite her skills as a leader, she has a hard time making personal decisions. Since her appointment as a Jenoch gym leader, she’s been wrestling privately with the ideas of staying or returning—if, when, how, then what? Sometimes it’s hard for her to think of herself as a person, not just a princess. As such, it’s hard to treat herself as a person, too. When she does make a decision of any sort, though, she sticks to it. Tanith is loyal to thoughts and ideas, and people just as well.

Cerulean: 18/F/5'0", pudgy, has some rad muscles even though she doesn't look like she would, has a nose the size of Texas and front teeth you could land a plane on, super tanned white skin with freckles on her shoulders and chest, wavy hair down just past her chin that she ties into tiny little pigtails, looks younger than she is. Since she was young, she's been on swim teams, and she's training to improve her strength and skills even further and go pro. Despite being friendly and fond (if often suspicious) of people in general, she tends to keep to herself; she's long since realized that she's just not *good* with people. She has enough energy that it's overbearing, but struggles to express and articulate herself, so she mostly comes across as vapid, like she's babbling nonsense. She can't stand to be seen as an airhead; she's emotional, certainly, and often blatantly so, but easily able to focus herself, keep a cool head, and think reasonably. Besides swimming, her passions include birds and jewelry. Cerulean likes to wear blue with bright colors, lots of jewelry, and hair bows.

adder and august have been best friends since they were six years old because one of each of their parents works together (i'm thinking as healers in the same hospital?)

august has two dads and used to have a kind of iffy relationship with them where they struggled to connect with each other, but since she came out to them and started transitioning they've gotten a whole lot closer

adder has a mom and a dad and ey's never been very close to them at all and still isn't out to them with no plans on changing that anytime soon

adder was the first person august came out to and vice-versa towards the early-middle of their fourth year; the conversation began something like "adder, i'm a girl" "oh. well, i'm not" "[beat]" "[a full minute of violent and raucous laughter]"

august came out to her dads in the break nearing that and they were 100% totally supportive of her

adder wouldn't switch names and pronouns until ey was sure ey'd found the perfect ones though. it took about a month to decide on "adder" because it stuck out among all the other snakey names ey looked at, and about another month to decide on ey/em/eirs. "xe" was a close contender and ey thought ey might end up switching to them, but once august started using "ey" pronouns for em, ey knew they were perfect.

august spent all year choosing a new name for herself. she discussed it with adder and in letters to her dads. she'd tried "autumn" for a bit but didn't like how soft and pretty it sounded, and she decided on August because it's her favorite month; the temperature is perfect and it's the start of the end of the season but it's also the start of a renewal too.
