i still can’t believe it. the season finale is an hour-long dinner party taking place entirely in lestat’s dying fevered mind while his decapitated head sits in bowling bag. and every minor character takes turns whining and making catty remarks. with intermittent cuts to louis being cruelly gruesomely tortured by armand. who had no screentime until the finale when it is revealed he’s been evilly masterminding louis’s torment from behind a curtain all season. like you have to laugh.

That’s a difference between hate-watching and suffer-watching.

Hate-watching is a pastime; it brings you joy and makes you laugh. It’s simple entertainment. You spend half an hour making fun of it on social media and go on with your day.  For me, The Idol was the pinnacle of that.

Suffer-watching is self-torture. You make long threads and think pieces about a show you claim doesn’t interest you. You go on and on trying to diminish the fun of other people for enjoying it. You turn fandom spaces into cesspools of hate whenever someone disagrees with you. Every day. For weeks. It makes you repetitive and boring. Why? Is it worth it?

I promise you there’s so much out there. So many TV shows, movies, and books to consume and have fun. Why spend so much time complaining about something that clearly makes you unhappy? And judging people for loving it?

Life is too short for all this misery.
