Disability bloggers that don't ID photos and tag flashing lights you are my enemy
I need more people to actually read and listen to bipolar people discussing our own experiences because there's no reason i should have to spend an entire documentary series about elisa lam (who was bipolar) watching random youtubers say "Her behavior didn't make sense! Her mental illness had nothing to do with it!" about things that are all incredibly fucking common symptoms of bipolar disorder
It's like one day everyone woke up and realized Oh, actually, Hollywood's depiction of Scary Mental Illnesses is incredibly harmful and unrealistic! But instead of deciding to learn about the reality of those disorders, they decided Well that means nothing about those mental illnesses can be dangerous or scary at all!
Which is actually just as harmful lmao
"Your disorder isn't actually dangerous, that's just ableist television propaganda!"
Thank you, "Web Sleuth" Brent, i will be sure to remember that the next time i have a manic episode and nearly jump in front of a train because I'm convinced the train can't hit me :)
I just think. Perhaps. We should find a middle ground between "this (psychotic) disorder is completely harmless" and "anyone with this disorder is one skipped med away from becoming a serial killer"
[ID: lesbian flag with the text “This post is about psychotic disorders. Do not derail. /end ID]
Having a rare disorder or rare complications can be so incredibly lonely. Thinking of people who will never meet another person in person with their disorder or have difficulty even connecting with other people online with their disorder. Thinking of people with disorders or injuries that are common, but their age makes them a huge outlier. I feel alone, but I have to believe i'm not
having a neurological disability is so frustrating. my brain has turned against me. the thing that's supposed to keep me alive is damaged. my body is trying to kill me starting at the source of it all.
(note: please do not make this about neurodivergency or mental illness. this post is about neurodegenerative illnesses and stroke survivors)
hot opinions straight off the stove! 🥘🔥

Physically disabled people, do you have a bad side?
yes, it's my right side
yes, it's my left side
no, it's bilateral
no, that's not how my physical disability works
abled button
Why? Because I'm curious.
Having a schizo spec diagnosis doesn't mean you can't be stalked in real life. Having a schizo spec diagnosis doesn't mean you can't be abused in real life. Having a schizo spec diagnosis doesn't mean you can't be assaulted in real life. Having a schizo spec diagnosis doesn't mean you can't be in danger in real life. Having a schizo spec diagnosis doesn't mean you can't have a serious physical health crisis in real life. Stop automatically assuming that every serious concern of a schizo spec person must be "all in their head"!
Can we stop using "still lives with their parents" or "unemployed" or "doesn't have a drivers license" or "didn't graduate high school" as an insult or evidence that someone is a bad person? Struggling with independence or meeting milestones is not a moral failing.
Here is what being nonverbal and able to speak could look like:
• randomly their mouth saying single words or a few every so often, but never able to say words by choice
•Rarley being able to say one or a few words by choice but almost always not
•only speaking in echolalia
•speech sounding like baby babble / just randomly talking and others are not able to understand what they are saying
•being able to speak but not being able to speak at all to communicate (sometimes called "non conversational" or "non commutative" depending on other factors)
•being able to say a few words, for example name and address, or "help!" For emergency situations or "no" and "yes",
something that can be worked on with a speech and language therapist often
when it's clear they probably won't ever be able to speak many words
so decide to put a lot of effort into practicing words for emergency situations, and other situations to
•and more!
Also, this post is not about, "you could be nonverbal and just not know it!" NO,
if you are nonverbal you know you are nonverbal (unless very specific situations, like for example having a severe ID and having very little if any self awareness)
and the people around you know you are nonverbal.
This is about making people aware some nonverbal people can talk a little and about why,
NOT for self discovery, so don't use a random tumblr post to diagnose a very huge thing.
Kinda fucked up that we all coo and sympathize with "former gifted kids" but never talk about the students who had to stay late after school or over the summer for remedial classes/clubs, who struggled to get above a C, who were given up on or punished. Who tried so hard to understand or just couldn't. Who were grouped with the "stupid kids" (a classmate called us that in remedial math btw)
Autistic kids and adhders who can't relate to their gifted peers and are constantly alienated by them. Kids who struggled in school due to dealing with a chronic or mental illness or physical/learning/developmental disability. Those of us who have had to drop out of highschool or college. Kids who worked so hard and wanted to be seen as smart, but never were. Who watched as their peers seem to fly by them in school, while they were left behind. Who were bullied and put down by those in the gifted and honors classes. Whose confidence was absolutely destroyed by education.
I love you all and I'm so sorry the school system failed you. I'm sorry you weren't properly accommodated and given the education you deserved. I'm sorry people put you down for something that they never had to fight for.
if all you did in 2024 was endure and survive, just know that i'm very fucking proud of you and you did a really good job.
Doctor: I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do to reattach your leg.
Doctor: but on the plus side your BMI is now low enough that we can do that elective life saving surgery you wanted!
It's important that you only lose one leg. If you lose two, then your height goes way down, and thus your BMI skyrockets.

even trying to watch or read things about schizophrenia all the top comments and loudest people are like “I don’t have schizophrenia I have adhd and…” dude !!!!! dude!!!!!! hey dude ! shut the fuck up!!!!!!! I’m trying to find my people! It’s not about you!!!!!!! Stop it!!!!!
I don’t understand how you can see people who are exactly like you dominate the discussion every-fucking-where you go and say “yknow what this needs right now? MORE ME!!!!” it’s almost like their lack of self awareness is so fucking immense they forgot other people who aren’t them exist
my anhedonia is eating me alive so i’m making these mental illness memes to cope
