It had been a long day, and you were dead tired. It had started with an emergency wake up call because the team needed extraction after having their cover blown, and had mostly rolled downhill from there. There was extraction teams to coordinate, and medical teams and all kinds of other things. Your brain was swimming and your anxiety was off the charts.
You all but fell into bed when you finally knew everyone was on the quinjet and safe. Despite knowing everyone was safe, your sleep was restless. You would sleep for a while, only to be wakened by a nightmare about the quinjet crashing, or the intel having been wrong and the extraction had failed.
You started awake, a scream caught in your throat. Your heart was racing, and you sat up, disoriented and sweaty. A cool arm reached up and pulled you back down into the bed.
"Sweetheart, I'm here. I snuck in about an hour ago." Bucky's voice was gravelly from sleep, and he pulled you into his arms. "I didn't want to wake you because you looked peaceful."
"Everyone is back?" You asked. HIs breath was warm on your neck.
"Yeah, we're all fine," he murmured, dropping a kiss on your shoulder.
"Even Steve?" You asked. His steady rhythmic breathing was slow and relaxing. Bucky's chest jiggled with a breathless chuckle.
"Yeah, doll, even Stevie," he assured you.
"You sure?" You asked, feeling your heart rate slow to match his. His lips brushed against your shoulder again.
"You could go climb in with him if you wanted to make sure," Bucky teased. "But I'm pretty sure he'd drop from a heart attack if you did." I was your turn to let out the breathless laugh. You squirmed in his arms just a little.
"Maybe I should," you retorted. Bucky's arm tightened around your waist and he pulled you against him.
"Very funny," he whispered. "Now go to sleep."
