I want to get into dc comics so bad.
But I have no idea where to start/where to even read them. Where do yall read your comics from ?
Is there an official source I just looked over ?
Do I look for the physical copy?
(that would be harder, we don't have comic stores)
Do just pray to the DC gods and hope they fall from the sky ?
Please help. TvT
Hi! Autistic DCU fan here! I’m still a bit new to the fandom, but here are some tips :3
Where To Find:
Libraries!! You’d be surprised how many libraries carry comics! It’s nice and accessible plus, most libraries usually have places you can recommend books that they buy!
Online Shopping! I don’t usually encourage online shopping, but if you’re looking for an older or more niche book, it’s your best bet.
Bookstores! Depending on the store, they usually have at least a small collection. I know Barnes and Noble has some. If you can find a comic book shop nearby, that’s perfect! They have lots of options, and they tend to be small businesses!
Web Novels! Webtoon has a few series! If you don’t see anything there, you can find PDF versions if you search hard enough.
Where to Start:
The DC Universe is sooo complex, and it can be hard to find a specific place to start! I would recommend following your favorite characters. You can check fan sites or do your own research on where they first come in and follow the story from there! Some gas stations or Dollar Stores carry cheap teasers of certain comics, try buying some of those and see what you like!
Hope this helps, and enjoyyy!! :3
This helps a load thank youuuu :3
hello!! i saw your dc post. i've been reading comics for about 5 years now so i have some advice!
places to read:
- local libraries will surprise you with how much they might have
- if you have a uni nearby whose library is open to the public, they also usually have some! esp if there's a comic club on campus
- book stores (local or chains like barnes and noble if you're looking for collected issues which generally cover a lot of stories but can be pricey)
- online retailers & resellers (amazon, ebay, etc. + some comic stores will have online shops w/ shipping!)
- dc universe infinite is an app/website that carries a lot of dc comics for a monthly subscription but they do have an okay size of free comics to read as well
of course, a lot of these (esp older comics) are avaliable for free online through other means but be safe with how you browse.
things to read:
depends what you like! i'm a big batman fan & some of my faves are batman gothic and batman dark victory. most people consider frank miller's year one a required reading but more for its impact on the character's history than quality of the story. generally, batman is hard to fuck up so most of his stories are decent if not pretty good.
i'm a big proponent of reading older comics, i esp love the 80s where they were getting weird with things (hellblazer for horror and swamp thing for horror/sci fi). but! it's also fun to read the new stuff. i love a lot of the modern harley quinn runs and cass cain as batgirl.
my advice is to read the synopsis of whatever you can find and then just dig in. it's a lot like figure out what books or shows you like; you just gotta try things out!
p.s. stories can be connected to other issues and larger events but you can usually figure out what's going on without reading every single comic from a run.
tldlr: check out your local libraries & online resellers + experiment with all kinds of comics to see what you like!
Omg this is so much more than I expected xD
thank you thank you thank you
