Challenging the gender binary gives people in our society an interesting opportunity to opt out from many assumptions that have been programmed into them. This sentiment was conveyed during a talk at the local zen center around our conditioning to classify everything as either right or wrong. I love it when my worlds overlap like this.

reminder for ppl not living in the southern us:

lgbt ppl live in the south.

poc live in the south.

a lot of ppl in the south don't support the shitty laws our states pass (see: students in southern states that supported march for our lives).

some southern states, despite their conservative politics, can have strong support for definitely non conservative things (see: wv usually has a lot of support for unions + strikes, see: the wv teacher strikes of 1990, 2018, + 2019).

even southern states without support usually have organizations that help the ppl living there (see: southerners on new ground, which supports + aids lgbt ppl, + also advocates for racial + economic justice).

not everyone in the south is white, cishet, + conservative.

there are more left wing + left leaning young ppl in southern states than you think.

there are more lgbt ppl + poc in the south than you think.

lgbt ppl + poc don't stop existing outside of the northern + western us.

YES our states objectively can suck but don't act like nobody in said states doesn't like it or wants change.
