rosebrielle:
Even though Brielle was usually the most positive person in a room, the whole storm’s events had her feeling a bit more… down, than usual. While she was still making sure that everyone around was okay, the negative thoughts were kept to herself. Her hair felt greasy and her skin was itchy from not having a shower, and she just wanted to be in her own bed – with Cameron, knowing Bailey was in the room next to her own. She wished for the whole thing to be over more than anything, and to know that her family and loved ones were safe. That’s all Brielle wanted. When she was told that she was going to a new property, it seemed somewhat promising – they were getting new equipment, and a fresh change of clothes. As soon as they arrived at Al’s Diner and Brielle was changed into new clothes, she immediately went for some hard liquor. While she was usually a pink Moscato kind of girl, right now? Whiskey was calling to her. She took a large cup and filled it to the brim, even though she knew she wasn’t going to drink the whole thing and started walking around the diner.
She sipped on it slowly, not enjoying the way it tasted – but she might as well, right? If they were stuck in here, then there was nothing wrong with a little buzz. Brielle stopped, though, when she heard a quiet little voice singing. Stopping in her tracks, she noticed CeCe sitting at a booth – with a paper of what was clearly lyrics on the sheet. She couldn’t help but smile at the sight in front of her. After a minute, she finally made herself known. “You have a really pretty voice, CeCe.” Brielle told her, giving her a small wave. “They.. just moved us over here. It’s so great to see that you’re safe. Well, as safe as we can be..” Brielle trailed off. “Can I sit here with you?”
In keeping to herself, CeCe hadn’t really given much attention to the group of new people that’d joined them at the diner. Maybe it was selfish, but all she’d done was look at the small crowd walking in, praying for her sister or cousins to be among them, and when she hadn’t seen any of them, she’d gone back to keeping to herself. Someone had offered her a change of clothes, and as much as CeCe didn’t want to break from her creative bubble, she knew she had to change. Wearing the same clothes for however many days it’d been was disgusting, and she was grateful for the new ones, despite how baggy they were on her tiny frame. She just needed to shower now, but there was no hope of that, so she’d rolled up the sleeves of the sweater she was now wearing and gotten back to work.
Were it not for the fact that the person speaking to her used her name, she probably wouldn’t have even noticed, since there was something of a buzz in the diner now, anyway. However, her head snapped up at the sound of her name, and she glanced over to see Brielle sending a wave her way. Flashing the other girl a small smile, CeCe waved back. “Thank you. I mean, I wasn’t really trying,” she laughed a little, brushing a chunk of hair behind her ear and glancing down at the sheet of scribbles again. “Of course you can. I’m glad to see that you’re safe, too.” Offering the girl another smile, a warmer one this time, she motioned to the seat opposite her. “Where were you before they moved you here? Is everybody that was with you okay?”
[CLOSED F2F]
Now that she knew her sister and cousins were safe, CeCe could relax a little bit. Not fully, since she hadn’t heard from everyone she would like to, but it was a start, and she could finally do more than just pace around the diner. To keep herself from going completely crazy, and because the texts she’d received from her ex had her head spinning and her creative juices flowing, CeCe had gone in search of some paper, finding the notepads used for taking people’s orders, and helped herself to one and a pen.
Sitting in one of the booths alone, she’d begun to write. There were a lot of scribbled out words, her feelings having gotten a little jumbled when they’d started to spill out onto the paper, but as she reached the bottom of the first sheet, she glanced back at what she’d already written, and felt the beginnings of a song coming along. Who knew it would take a natural disaster to inspire her into writing again? Quietly, under her breath, she began to sing the lyrics to her own made up tune, now lost in her own little world.

ALI: I am an idiot.
ALI: I already knew that, but I felt the need to tell you that.
ALI: I love you. I love you so, so much. I know that I've done a lot of bad things in my life, and I get that some of those things have hurt you, but it wasn't because I didn't love you. I've always loved you. I can't imagine loving anyone else.
ALI: I can't promise that I'm going to be better tomorrow, or that I'll never hurt you again, but I'll never do it intentionally. I would spend the rest of my life making you happy, if you would let me.
ALI: I love you. Stay safe. I hope I see you soon.

PHONE CALL 📞 CHLOKENZIE
KENZIE: sighed when CeCe said that their mother wasn't with her, and then nodded at the idea of her being with their uncle, even if CeCe couldn't see it. "Maybe." She said softly. She was about to answer CeCe when she heard a beep, pulling the phone away from her ear, she saw 'call ended' flash across her screen. "No, no, no!" she whined, trying to call her sister back, tears welling up in her eyes as the call failed. Kenzie tried again, refusing to admit that the signal was gone again. She tried three more times before finally giving up, letting her head loll back against the wall, not even bothering to wipe her tears as she cried. It was good to know her sister was safe, but she just wanted to be with her, not stuck here.
CECE: bit her lip, knowing there was no way their mom was with their uncle, and that that meant she was definitely all alone, wherever she was. She tried to push the image from her mind, and was about to speak again when she heard the phone begin to beep, the line going dead. "Kenzie?" she questioned, pulling the phone from her ear and staring at the blank screen, the words NO SERVICE in the corner all over again. Truthfully, she'd been waiting for that ever since she'd answered, so it didn't shock her too much, but it did disappoint her. She let out a sigh as she leaned back against the wall. "Dios mío," she mumbled to herself, shaking her head. At least she knew her sister was okay; now she just had everybody else left to worry about.
PHONE CALL 📞 CHLOKENZIE
KENZIE: relaxed a bit when CeCe continued, "Oh good. I'm at Dom's garage, it's not the most fun place to be, but it's safe. Jett is here, which is good, he's been calming me down, and Eva is here!" She said, biting her lip and frowning, "Mom isn't with you, is she?" She had no doubt in her mind that her mother was there, and if she was, CeCe would have mentioned it, but she had to ask.
CECE: still wasn't happy that she and Kenzie weren't together, but it helped her to relax a little to hear that her sister was at least not alone. Kenzie was okay, that was the main thing, and now CeCe could breathe again. "Good, that's good." She also liked hearing that Ali's little sister was there, although that couldn't have meant anything good for anybody else at the garage. A part of CeCe had been hoping, even though she knew deep down there was no chance of it, that Lou-Ann would've been with Kenzie, so she sighed in response to her sister's question, shaking her head. "No, she's not. I was hoping she'd be with you... Maybe she's with Uncle Pat?" The thought of her being alone made CeCe's eyes start to sting all over again, but she blinked the tears away, composing herself, and biting her lip before she asked the next question. She knew there was about as much chance of her saying yes as there had been of Lou-Ann being there, but she had to ask. "Hey, uh, if Eva's there.. Is Ali with her?"
PHONE CALL 📞 CHLOKENZIE
KENZIE: let out another audible sob as she heard her sister's voice on the other end. All she could do was cry for a few seconds as CeCe spoke, before "I'm okay," finally bubbled out of her, though it was muffled by her cries, she wiped her tears away, getting herself under control. "Oh God, I was so worried about you, thank God you're okay. Where are you?"
CECE: couldn't remember a time she'd been so happy to hear her sister's voice, which was really saying something, given their codependence and the fact that she was always checking in with her. Tears spilled over her lids as Kenzie finally responded, and CeCe gripped more tightly onto the phone, as if she could somehow hold the girl on the other end through it. "Thank God," she sobbed, not even bothering to wipe her tears away. "I was so worried about you, too. I'm at the diner, Nacho and Kya are here as well. Where are you? Are you safe? God, it's so good to hear your voice."
PHONE CALL 📞 CHLOKENZIE
KENZIE: saw that her phone had service and didn't even pause for a second before her finger was pressing the phone icon next to CeCe's name. There was nothing more important to her than knowing that her sister was okay. Her hand shook as she lifted the phone to her ear, letting the fear of this whole thing finally hit her. She broke down in tears, a loud sob leaving her mouth as she slid down to the floor, listening to the ringing on the other hand and just hoping for an answer.
CECE: hadn't been sleeping, too alert with worry about everyone she cared about, but no one more so than her sister. Evidently, exhaustion had overtaken her, and she'd managed to drift to sleep, sitting up against the wall with her phone in her lap. It was the vibration that startled her awake, and CeCe glanced down at it, confused for a second, until she saw Kenzie's name and contact photo lighting up the screen. Without hesitation, she slid her thumb across the screen to answer, lifting it up to her ear and gripping tightly. "Kenz?" She answered, her voice choking up immediately. "Kenzie, are you okay? I love you, I'm here, I'm okay."
kimuradaze:
Someone label me queen of the diner right this moment: I’ve found instant coffee. Now if anyone can find a way to boil water so it’ll actually be hot, I think we might just make it through the morning.
Did you figure it out? Because I’d never say no to coffee.
nakyajones:
“Why?” She questioned, still staring at the other girl, “Why is it selfish?” She asked, squeezing her hand again. “Worry about the people you love isn’t selfish, Being human isn’t selfish. You can’t control the weather, you can’t control who is where and when. It’s not selfish that you ended up here and your sister ended up somewhere else, you just have to trust that He’s watching out for you.” She frowned, biting her lip as she stared at the girl, wishing she could do something to make her feel better.
It was comforting to feel Nakya’s hand squeezing her own, and CeCe didn’t try to pull herself away this time. She just listened, taking deep breaths to calm herself and nodding along with the other girl’s words. God had been far from the front of her mind throughout this whole thing; she really had just been stupid amounts of worried about her sister, so when Kya Mentioned Him, CeCe felt selfish all over again. Eventually, she nodded again, managing a small smile. “Thank you,” she whispered, her hand squeezing Kya’s gently as she tugged her closer, “I don’t really know what I’d do without you here. I don’t know what I’d do without you at all lately, in fact.”
