When Tess Morgan's son came home with a tattoo, she was griefstricken. She knew her reaction was OTT (he's 21) but it signalled a change in their relationship
This is gold this, absolute gold, the most over the top melodramatic hysterical ridiculous thing I’ve ever read
This is actually so interesting to read- it’s from 2012 but its full of the same anxieties, even some of the same phrasing that many of the guardian’s later pieces on transness use. really hammers home how much of the terfism that emerged in the late 10s was middle class mothers angry at a loss of control over their adult children- whether that be their bodies or their friends or their opinions- and making that everyone’s problem because they have the power to do so
He says, “I’m still the same person.”
I look at him, sitting there, my 21-year-old son. I feel I’m being interviewed for a job I don’t even want. I say, “But you’re not. You’re different. I will never look at you in the same way again. It’s a visceral feeling. Maybe because I’m your mother. All those years of looking after your body – taking you to the dentist and making you drink milk and worrying about green leafy vegetables and sunscreen and cancer from mobile phones. And then you let some stranger inject ink under your skin. To me, it seems like self-mutilation. If you’d lost your arm in a car accident, I would have understood. I would have done everything to make you feel better. But this – this is desecration. And I hate it.”
Why is it whenever people correctly say that more people need to be engaged in militant tactics on the ground bc whats happening is too little are and too many are engaging with non violent tactics or social media, that the immediate response is "well not everyone is able to be involved on the ground like disabled people" there are certainly people who cannot be directly involved or leave the house without support but i dont see those posts as centering disabled people. If they were theyd be productively add on to the discussion about where to include disabled people in militant tactics? Again, we know the path forward is masses shutting down embassies, weapons factories, railroads and so on. There is no debate that this is the most effective tactic and i dont see how centering that discussion decenters disabled people. Especially since the tactic of empires like israel is too mass disable people when they revolt so we need to have these discussions
Also just to say I watched this vid today of PIJ in in gaza distributing candy and below is a screenshot of a palestinian militant with one leg and obviously I cant predict whether this is a result of war or whether he was born that way but heres an example of disabled peoples inclusion in militant efforts
Also whats happening is when a select few decide to bravely engage with the state and face extreme repercussions, is that instead of many people joining and sustaining the action, everyone just praises them and moves on. Not good
Also disabled people have consistently been on the front line of direct actions and protests.
The author's poorly disguised fetish
The author's proudly displayed fetish
The author's fetish you're pretty sure they don't realise they have
The author's fetish which they're firmly convinced everyone has and is just pretending otherwise
The author's non-sexual special interest which just sounds like a fetish because of their habitually unfortunate phrasing
The fetish the author is making a well-meaning effort to cater to in spite of clearly not understanding it themselves
The author's fetish that never quite makes it into the text because they keep getting sidetracked by the requisite worldbuilding
The author's utterly pedestrian sexual preference which the text treats like a bizarre fetish because they've got shit to work through
The author's seemingly innocuous recurring trope they're going to have a personal revelation about ten years down the road
The author's fetish you missed on a first reading because it's so far out of pocket, it never occurred to you that you could sexualise that

Eryka Caldwell is a back trans woman who was murdered by her partner in her apartment last Sunday, and the story is getting a fraction of the attention that the murder of Juniper Blessing did. The police had already been called several times about her partners violence before her murder and did nothing, and she deserves the same outrage and mourning as Juniper got, and every one of our murdered trans siblings deserves. Trans women of color are more likely to be the victims of murder than any other group of queer people, and they need our solidarity, protection and support.
Caldwell’s boyfriend, 38-year-old Jonathan Fernandez, has been charged with murder.
Her family has a gofundme, please donate to them if you can so that they can transport her back home for her funeral.

Yet another new study debunked the basis for the anti-trans sports bans. It was never about sports but for creating legal avenues for exclusion and abjection. This is one of the largest analyses ever conducted, involving 52 studies and 6,485 trans people. Read the study here.
post so nice had to reblog it twice and force it down everyone's throats
At minimum about 4.5 thousand people liked this without reblogging it.
We gotta fix that.
tl;dr: all "algorithmically" pushed stuff on a newsfeed is mostly ads. nothing that's really surprising form this vulture article, but it is dismal and makes me grateful for one website where you only see things from people you follow WITHOUT horrible short-form video content
What if every viral song, movie, meme, influencer, and celebrity drama in recent memory was the result of a stealth marketing campaign?

How it is a lot of the time
I want a sitcom about a friend group or family wherein one of the main characters is a trans woman. I want her to be the most bubbly, kind, energetic character and the show to demonstrate over the episodes that this woman is the fucking glue that holds these people together. They love each other but there’s miscommunications and difficulties expressing themselves and well-meaning ideas that turn toxic. But you have this character who has had to build herself from nothing and is paying that joy she’s cultivated outward.
And then I want a flashback episode that takes place ten years before. And that trans woman is the saddest, numbest man with no light in her eyes. I want her future self to haunt that narrative like a fucking specter. Watching fights that she would have stopped and people she would have helped. It should be clear that when someone finds themselves and cultivates self-love it spills out to the people around them, too. And the relationships aren’t the same without that.
In this context, I think it would also be crucial that everyone else is cis
I made this patch because I love being trans. It’s not always easy, but it’s a beautiful way to be.
[image description: A photo of an embroidered patch. Two dandelions, one gone to seed and one still a flower, are framed by two leaves. Behind the dandelions there is a circular trans flag. The words “our roots are deep” are embroidered on the top right corner. /end image description]
This took me hours, but it was worth it. I’m really enjoying making patches and other various DIYs, more of which I will share soon!
Oury Jalloh was burned alive in a German police cell while his hands and feet were cuffed to a bed. the cops claimed he had set himself on fire but offered no evidence. No one was convicted. It took 2 more violent deaths in the same police building (Hans-Jürgen Rose, died from internal injuries from blunt force impacts, Mario Bichtemann died from a skull fracture), before one cop had to pay a fine. No cop faced real consequences.
15-year-old Jerryson Noor was shot and killed by police in the Netherlands after being accused of trying to steal a bicycle. We was running from police and clearly posed no threat.
Independent forensic tests and later expert analysis commissioned by Jalloh’s family suggest it would have been very difficult for someone bound to ignite the mattress on their own and that fire accelerants such as petrol may have been involved.
A 2019 autopsy commissioned by the family also found fractures (broken rib, broken nose, skull base fracture) indicative of serious injuries before the fire — a point the courts did not allow as decisive evidence. (DW)
Between 2020 and 2022, thirteen EU countries reported a total of 488 deaths occurring in custody or during police operations. Despite international calls for transparent reporting on such fatalities, most European countries still do not meet UN standards for investigating these deaths, leaving persistent gaps in accountability and oversight. Inconsistencies and inadequacies in data availability further underscore the challenges in maintaining adequate transparency in law enforcement practices.

please help my friend stay safe!
some advice for people entering their 20s:
-dont go to the emergency room with dental problems. go to the dentist
-bagged greens are cheaper than pre-made salads
-taco bell is NOT worth the money anymore. 1/4 cup mayo, 1/4 cup sour cream, 3 tblspoons pickled jalapenos+2tblspoons of the jar liquid, 2 tsp paprika 1 tsp cumin 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder salt+pepper. all in your blender. creamy jalapeno sauce
-dont quit your job unless you have a bunch of job interviews lined up immediately after
-use resources. food bank, unemployment, housing assistance, financial aid, etc. yes there will be paperwork. but Do It
-dont stay awake longer than 20 hours. you Will start to become impulsive and cranky. resting for 20 minutes is better than trying to stay awake
-for every 2 hours you spend looking up close at screens, spend 20 minutes looking at something far away from you. stretch your wrists a lot
-dont do that yoga stretch where you roll your head around your shoulders. youre grinding down the joints in your neck
-be nice to your friends, bullying them as a joke gets old. if you need a ride somewhere at least offer them gas money
-brush your teeth at any time of the day but especially before you sleep. dont snack in bed if you can help it. make your bed the Clean Teeth Zone. keep floss picks by your bed
-dont tell your boss youre adhd/autism/depression/suicidal. dont trust your coworkers with that. you NEVER know how people will take it and its none of their business
-train your pets to go to the front door when they hear a fire alarm
-get regular oil changes
No seriously, get regular oil changes. Learned in shop class that about half of the people that come to us don't change their oil until it gets chunky. Chunky oil is really bad. Chunky oil is only marginally better than no oil. In some cases, it might actually be worse.
