Exclusive: Elizabeth and Jemima posted online about their white peer who had racist language written across his chest
"Two Black students have spoken out after being suspended from the University of Central Lancashire for sharing details of racist incidents on campus.
Drama students Elizabeth and Jemima posted online about their white peer who had a racial slur – the n-word – and swastika written across his chest during a drinking game.
The viral posts came after they complained to the university three months ago. But they were allegedly ignored, the pair told The Independent.
In response to the social media posts, university leaders told the Black students on Monday that they had been suspended for bringing the organisation into disrepute while an investigation into the racism complaints against their white peer remains ongoing."
That a university thinks it can get away with this, is incredible. Disgusting treatment. And of course it's Lancashire. Long a hotspot for racism and xenophobia.
For the record, she actually abandoned the movement BEFORE they all got whooping cough, but abandoned it too late. There’d been a breakout of measles in her area that caused her to reassess, and she and her doctor had already drafted and started a catch-up vaccination schedule, but her kids caught whooping cough just before it could be started. Then she wrote a blog post for The Scientific Parent explaining how she and her husband had come to wrong decisions in the first place, how they changed their mind, the consequences they suffered as a result, and asking other parents to please vaccinate their kids. And now she’s an activist for destroying the misinformation of anti-vaxxers, and reaching out to anti-vaxxers because she’s understands their fears but knows their kids deserve better.
She was trying to the best for her kids and just didn’t know how to interpret the validity of information or its sources, an actual skill that can be actually difficult and that is under-taught and a necessary first step to being able to trust vaccination research, so chose no action over taking an action she wasn’t sure of. She kept looking into it with family and friends and even eventually came to the right conclusion before her kids became sick, but it was still too late.
Honestly it was pretty brave of her to publicly admit she was wrong. She could have just quietly vaccinated her kids and not become a national news story, but instead she spoke out, even saying “I’m writing this from quarantine, the irony of which isn’t lost on me.” and also “I am not looking forward to any gloating or shame as this ‘defection’ from the antivaxx camp goes public, but, this isn’t a popularity contest. Right now my family is living the consequences of misinformation and fear. I understand that families in our community may be mad at us for putting their kids at risk.”
She understood the consequences and still put herself and her story out there.
Some of yall are so willing to be pretentious about this but the thing is, antivaxx culture is genuinely a cult. It’s a misinformation campaign that shuns anyone not associated with it and actively condemns anyone that ever leaves it, painting the outside world as cruel and harsh.
As someone that was raised antivaxx who had to fight like hell to form my own beliefs contrary to everything I’d been taught by the people I trusted most, I would’ve given anything to have my family realize that antivaxx culture is harmful.
Antivaxxers don’t get into it because they think it’s trendy. They do it out of fear. Actively mocking them for growing and escaping that cult only serves to strengthen the cult itself by pushing people back in should they try to leave.
If you live in the UK, consider ordering lateral flow tests NOW. They are currently free to order, but supreme wanker Boris Johnson is changing that ‘within weeks’. It costs at least £11.95 to buy ONE lateral flow test if you are travelling, and if testing is required for travel, to work, to attend a concert in future - you’re screwed.
Order your free LFT box from the NHS/.GOV website as soon as possible. Don’t fall into the trap of funding this profiteering prick and his friends.
Someone just pointed out that people will do less tests bc they have to pay and it will look like the covid numbers are going down and they are absolutely right, win win for the tories (and another win if it turns out one of their mates has the contract for the tests or something)
The fact that people are boycotting JK Rowling for her blatant transphobia and not mentioning her blatant racism exemplifies why people are white before they are trans or gay.
The Wizarding school North America (Ivermory) is riddled with blatant appropriation of Native American cultures, but no one gave a shit.
An in-depth look at cultural appropriation in the American houses from an overly involved Harry Potter fan.
Although the final book in the Harry Potter saga, The Deathly Hallows, was published almost a decade ago, J. K. Rowling has been quietly bui
But no one gave a shit until she started starting transphobic rhetoric.
She literally takes Native American beliefs and... I don't know what the words are for this bullshit. Misrepresents them to capitalize on them? Appropriates them? Completely ignores the original beliefs in order to make up her own?
History of Magic in North America, being serialised on Rowling’s Pottermore website, attacked for using an ancient culture ‘as a convenient
Although the new insights into the universe of Harry Potter were welcomed by many, the author was strongly criticised online by a number of voices from Native American communities, particularly over her writing about skinwalkers, which in Navajo legend are said to be evil witches or wizards who can take on the form of animals.
Rowling writes that the myth “has its basis in fact … A legend grew up around the Native American Animagi, that they had sacrificed close family members to gain their powers of transformation. In fact, the majority of Animagi assumed animal forms to escape persecution or to hunt for the tribe. Such derogatory rumours often originated with No-Maj medicine men, who were sometimes faking magical powers themselves, and fearful of exposure.”
Responding to a question on Twitter, Rowling said that “in my wizarding world, there were no skinwalkers”, with the legend created by those without magic “to demonise wizards”.
But yeah. The transphobia is why we're boycotting her.
(This isn't to say the transphobia is okay or to minimize trans issues. This is to point out that white people only care about issues that effect other white people.)
Look. All I'm saying is if you're going to make a post about why we don't like JK Rowling. Say "we aren't going to support JK Rowling because of her racism and transphobia."
Not to mention. How shitty of a writer must you be if you can't create b your own myths and legends? The fact that she's gotta steal from others completely exemplifies how shitty of an author she is.
idk what cis woman needs to hear this but trans women aren’t your enemy. they share your struggle against misogyny, even thought it’s sometimes in different ways. it’s all misogyny!! physical and sexual violence, judgement and coercion surrounding appearance, genetalia, and gender performance, poor access to healthcare, violence at the hands of men specifically, fetishization, etc. trans women are women who happen to be in an even more vulnerable position than other women. misogyny affects us ALL and excluding trans women from feminist spaces– or worse, blaming them for violence against women– will never be radical or revolutionary. you’re just denying support and resources to an extremely vulneravle group of women.
I have no right to tell you what you can and can't enjoy and neither does anyone else.
HOWEVER
By watching Fantastic Beasts and buying merch you are directly supporting J.K. Rowling. Your hard earned money is lining her bigoted pockets. She uses these resources and her influence to actively harm others.
This woman waited for the trailer to drop to post an absolutely repugnant tweet about trans people, knowing it would be seen by tons of people she wants to hurt while the media ignores it because the trailer is a hotter topic.
J. K. Rowling is evil. If you want to enjoy her creations, do it in a way that doesn't benefit her. Sail the seas. Fuck her.
A friend of mine posted this and tagged my old instagram account, asking me to share it. I figured sharing it here where I actually have a following, would be far better.
Please remember that just because the government is giving into pressure and greed, that doesn’t mean that any of this is getting any better, in a lot of ways it’s getting worse. And even if you yourself aren’t being as heavily affected anymore, there are people and communities that are.
Stay safe Darling ones, and help others remain safe too.
now, more than ever, people need to show their support for trans women. JK Rowling is back on her terf shit on twitter and that means self-proclaimed 'radblr' is going to be having a fucking field day celebrating and harrassing trans women calling us rapists.
seriously, drop harry potter. i don't care what your excuse is for reading the books, creating content for it whether it just be dumb tumblr posts or writing fanfiction. take it from a trans girl in the uk - your engagement does have a tangible effect on our lives, and JKR has openly stated that most people who engage with that series agree with her view.
interviewer: —buy these NFTs for $50, um. and so like when you think about the concept of digital scarcity and things that are, you know that can’t be copied,
keanu: that are easily reproduced? hehe heeheheheee!!
interviewer: (while keanu is still laughing) well. (huffs) but they’re not the same—

hey there LGBTQ kids who are also Christian/Jewish! If you feel like you’re disobeying God, questioning your faith, or feel wrong and dirty for loving who you love, there’s this fantastic site I found today called hoperemains that accurately and thoroughly combs through scripture and its (many) mistranslations, validates your orientation, and basically let’s you know that you’re not pissing off God. It’s insanely thorough and after reading through every page on the entire site it’s super helpful. Go check it out!
Muslim LGBTQ kids, you can go to iamnotharaam! It’s run by a mod squad of different genders and orientations, and they take submissions from everybody!
REBLOGGING THIS AGAIN BECAUSE IT’S SO FREAKING IMPORTANT TO ME AND ALL MY FOLLOWERS TO READ THAT DEAL WITH GRIEF AND GUILT WHILE BEING LGBTQ AND RELIGIOUS
Links are all good (with supremejellyfish’s replacement) as of 10/27/2021.
I would also recommend Eshel for Orthodox Jews - Keshet is great and pluralistic, but definitely focused on a more liberal view of Judaism and halacha.
If anyone has a more active link for LGBTQ+ Muslims let me know and I’d happily reblog it - the blog listed looks like it’s been pretty quiet for a while.
