I am SO incredibly pleased with how this turned out, I employed lots of new techniques for the shading that really came together beautifully, and I'm still looking at his armor going, "Holup... Did I do that? I DID, didn't I?!"

This is Aaron.

Aaron is far too sober for anyone else's bullshit. His life has been going steadily downhill ever since a paladin shoved a sword in his gut and left him for dead in the gutter.

He got better!

... At the cost of never seeing his twin sister again, lest he interfere with their infernal patron's plans for her.

He's a monk in game, but I dispensed with the very fluid and graceful martial arts styling in favor of making him a good old fashioned pugilist. Elemental Warrior subclass, but with a distinct infernal flavor thanks to his ongoing connections with a devil. I'll get around to drawing him for myself, likely after Artfight is done, but in the meantime, I used Crowesn's Tiefling Maker and HeroForge to put together some decent references of him.

sorry i’m reblogging this again but this just makes me so fucking angry. this reminds me of those dudes running game of thrones who had virtually no experience and were allowed to just. treat a multimillion dollar franchise as their little fuck-around-and-learn-about-tv sandbox. why are white men with no credentials allowed to get away with this over and over again while the rest of us have to fight tooth and nail for literal crumbs. i fucking hate the entertainment industry

tfw you realize you put more thought into your self indulgent fanfic in middle school than someone in charge of a multimillion dollar franchise that employs thousands of people and is watched by millions.

N'anstrivarr Dhaerow, my Shadar-Kai Gloomstalker. It's been very interesting to play him. At the start of the campaign, he had no memory of who he was, only the knowledge of his "name": N'anstrivarr Dhaerow. Forgotten Face of Shadow. Forgotten Traitor.

As we've progressed, entering the Faewild and witnessing the warring forces of two goddesses' faiths colliding, he's slowly begun to recall pieces of his past: his devotion to the Raven Queen that spanned centuries, gradually eroded as he carried out Her will and witnessed the joy and vibrance of mortal life. An unrequited love with a mortal ranger, culminating in betrayal and death. And an awful sinking sensation in his soul as he realized that he may have been the catalyst of the calamity that's been tearing at the fabric of the veil between worlds. At the very least, he knows now that he was complicit.

This portrait was a bit of a struggle. I referenced Alexander Ward (Jasper Hartwood, Vampire: the Masquerade - L.A. by Night) for his facial features and wanted to go with a slightly more dynamic pose than usual. The result is that I'm still not happy with his chin, even after redrawing it completely (after finishing the shading, which necessitated redoing the shading on his neck and the lower half of his face, of course...).

I also tried to draw him in armor, loosely referencing the drow leather armor from BG3, but for whatever reason, adding armor made his head look HUGE. Completely threw the proportions, which frankly perplexed me. It's also amazing how different this looks on my tablet vs. my PC vs. my phone. It happens with all art, of course, but it's never been so vividly different as with this one. Computers are funky like that.
