I normally fall in love with a fandom several years after it Made It Big and the internet has been talking about it for ages. It's extremely weird when the situation's reversed and I was familiar with the source material for literal ages before its adaptation into a wildly popular media.
no no, i get it. i can see why you're confused- I want the CANON to be completely platonic, fucked-up exploration of intimacy that transcends human sexuality but never includes human sexuality.
I want to be the pervert that makes them fuck.
#had to be me#canon might have gotten it wrong
Yeah man, this wizard sleepover is cozy. I just saw a guy gently clap his hands together and say "hot beverage conjuration" or something, and suddenly everyone was holding a perfect mug of their favorite warm drink in their hands. Nobody who was already sleeping even woke up, that's how cozy it is. I'm over here casting pillow and level 2 pyjamas. I think I just heard "power word: blanket fort" two groups over. I gotta get in there.
laptop overheating?? pour water on it to cool it down!
i trusted you
Do not trust people like me. I will take you to museums, and parks, and monuments, and kiss you in every beautiful place, so that you can never go back to them without tasting me like blood in your mouth. I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible. And when I leave you will finally understand, why storms are named after people
hi this drives me crazy
canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana
a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.
an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.
fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.
these are all different words with different meanings.
and a cannon is a large mounted gun, usually on wheels, that uses explosives to fire projectiles.
the problem is i really do love staying up until one billion o'clock. it just cant be helped
Elrond arrives in Valinor.
He is expected to join at least one of the courts (man is descended from everyone of importance)
He’s spent the majority of his life in political situations where everyone just wants to survive
He sees the glamour and manipulation in the high courts
Man nopes the fuck out and retires with his wife, sons and suspiciously intelligent crab.
Completely in character, considering how this elf canonically turned down the position of High King Of The Noldor when it was offered to him.
actually where IS a fic where Melkor doesn’t return, or doesn’t find Ungoliant or something so all that takes longer to blow up, and Finwë has time to be like, “alright, everyone is slightly getting along…Indis and I are going on vacation for a few years and while we’re gone, Maitimo is King of the Noldor.” And then…
Finwë, to himself as he walks out the door: This will work great. Maitimo is eagerly supported by Fëanáro and his people, and respected (if sometimes begrudgingly) by Nolofinwë and his people. Moreover he’s a competent politician in his own right, genuinely interested in the work of rule, level-headed with responsibility… I bet we can stretch this vacation to a decade or even semi-retirement without anyone blinking. Nothing with disrupt it.
Maitimo, the second Finwë is out the door: For my first royal decree, let it be known that marrying your half-cousin is totally okay, and incidentally Findekáno and I are getting married next Tuesday. You’re all invited!
All Hell (read: family drama): [breaks loose]
He's just following tradition! Clearly you can't be king of the noldor without a marriage controversy.
@shrikeseams 1. Years, obviously; this is Maedhros we’re talking about. 2 (implied). My vague idea of the timeline here is:
a couple months ago: Fingon & Maedhros decide that fuck it, yeah, let’s just ELOPE! …but not right this instant; there’s the bridge-opening ceremony, and then Aredhel’s begetting-day party, and then…
so in, like, 2 months? Yes, 2 months. That’s the plan. “Hunting trip” just the two of them, nothing unusual, handle the consequences when they get back…
about 1 month ago: Finwë announces his vacation plans, including the kingship while he’s gone
Fingon: Oh no! Should we elope right now? Should we put it off longer? I don’t WANT to put it off any longer, I want to take you—
Maedhros: No no no no no—I got this. I can work with this. WE can work with this. We just need to arrange an entire royal wedding in a month, secretly, while still coordinating with Grandfather for my coronation—and secretly planning yours, after the wedding— We can combine those to compress the logistics. All the same people will attend. We need invitations; two outfits each, or at least two sets of jewelry; venue and seating; musicians; refreshments; someone on duty to keep my father from starting a fight, someone on duty to keep your father from starting a fight—easier job, but it’ll satisfy Father to see— Help me clear off this table and we can start the seating chart! And designing your crown—what kind of symbolism do you want? It should be strongly Noldorin, but I think we can afford a hint of Vanyarin aesthetic if you’d prefer—
Fingon, admiring, clearing off the table: It’s fucked up how this just makes me want to marry you even more. I don’t think I— no, yeah, I do actually want a hint of Vanyarin aesthetics. The curlicues their jewelry always has these days.
a VERY young Celebrimbor, looking at Maedhros' design for Fingon's crown: of course I can make this, but why do you need a crown? And why can't I tell dad?
Maglor networks up an entire secret orchestra's worth of musicians, separate from the regular coronation orchestra, and writes the wedding march
Celegorm handles all the Vala-sweet-talking required, starting with subtle hints to Orome and ending with less-than-subtle hints delivered to Manwe via hawk messenger
Maedhros does the logistics, of course, but Caranthir and Turgon are the ones who figure out how to procure the budget for a royal wedding without alerting anyone to suspicious withdrawals from the family coffers
Turgon also helps arrange the venue. after all, he is quite skilled at arranging hidden locations ahead of time
Aredhel volunteers to tackle anyone who tries to start a fight
they don't tell Curufin, but they do try to drop enough hints that he won't be excessively surprised when it happens. one Feanor is enough of a fight risk to deal with for now, and nobody wants a shocked and angry Curvo jumping in as well
Tiny Celebrimbor makes the crown in Mahtan's workshop while Nerdanel covers for him, because there's no way anyone's getting away with making secret crowns in Feanor's forge
you know those studies showing that cursing helps with pain tolerance or whatever. that’s how i feel about making my weird little noises to get through my basic daily activities. sometimes you just have to go hggblaaaah for a minute so you can find the strength within yourself to get up or wash the dishes or send an email. mmmnneh. urgh. the torments are unending but you can always make some little sounds about it.
star trek loves coming up with interrogation methods that literally cannot be cheated. and then being like well of course sometimes people cheat them
Hi Cross! I'm so happy you're writing for ShunStarrk, it's one of my favrite ships and Starrk is one of favorite characters and I love how you write them. I also couldn't help thinking about wat would happen if you sent Starrk bac with Ichigo in Swinging Pendulum (or just TBTP). You've done Kisuke and Aizen so I was curious how it would go with Starrk. I'd love to see any ideas you might have for it!
lol my first thought when I saw this was a mental image of Ichigo throwing Starrk at Shunsui and being like “go seduce us an ally!” 😂😂😂
But okay, more seriously, I have a few thoughts on it so I guess I'll just ramble a bit? Well first of all, in an AU like SP/TBTP, I would employ one of my handy dandy Bleach headcanons where the next step up from Arrancar is a fully restored soul, so to speak. We know Hollows are generally souls that Shinigami failed to purify and save in time, but I like to think that as Hollows, after hitting rock bottom, if they have the power and the strength of will and the ability to survive long enough to work all the way back up on their own, they can actually fix themselves.
(I actually also headcanon that becoming “perfect artificial Arrancar” via Aizen and his Hougyoku actually stagnates them, so they’re given a power boost and Shinigami-like powers, but they’ve basically peaked and will never again be able to grow much because there is no growth from perfection, which also explains why the Visored’s power levels have always felt a cut below the other captains and lieutenants’ and even after a hundred years they could never manage much with their Hollow abilities, nor did they make any significant improvements or contributions between WW and TYBW, because the Hougyoku pushes you to the pinnacle of your potential at that point in your life, but by doing so, it also cuts off any possibility of further growth, and so over time you might even deteriorate. And all of that ties neatly back into one of Bleach’s major themes of perfection/stagnancy vs. growth/development. But I digress, that isn’t overly important here.)
You ever hear that old chestnut about how most people neglect the part of the story of Icarus where he also had to avoid flying too low, lest the spray of the sea soak his feathers and cause him to fall and drown? You ever think about how different the world would be if Icarus died that way instead? If the idiom was to Fly To Close To The Sea? A warning against playing it far too safe, about not stretching your wings and soaring properly? You ever think about how Icarus died because he was happy?
