“A Sudden Stop”
Biking to the Office,
Through early months not slimming-
Beginning with skills of homeopaths,
Office bound, igniting the path.
That silly Mantra.
So simple and straightforward.
Middle Aged Ambition.
Just what the doctor ordered.
Attending with Sisyphus,
Slapping the anesthesiologist.
Waking up, having been hit by a car.
Happy to smoke another Cigar.
Otiose dreams with no checkpoints.
He leaned in close.
They plucked him from the grass.
The woman was verbose.
And so it seemed, within a dream
of weary world traveling
He stopped at once, next to the hearth
of modern tires spinning.
The woman and her bookstore,
Reminding him of danger.
Renewed a path of hope,
“Don’t make yourself a stranger.”
