Does anyone RP for RWBY?
Does anyone cosplay RWBY?
Drop a comment or message me if you do either 😁
So I’ve seen a lot around this theory
It’s “wild”
It’s “insane”
It’s “not plausible”
It’s “shit”
Well let me tell you
If you pay attention. All above claims and others are discredited. Because there is so so so so so so so so so SO S O much evidence backing up the QROW IS RUBY’s dad theory. If you want I can give you the full run down as to the HOW and the WHY this theory is entirely plausible and very much likely the case.
Want a reason? One of many? - THE FUCKING DESIGN OF THE CHARACTERS IN THE SHOW AS A WHOLE - all characters share resemblance, color scheme and personality to BOTH parents. Ruby however shares none of these with Tai, and what she does share is arguably Nurture over Nature. And why would Ruby look solely like Summer when no other character looks solely like ONE of their parents? Ruby doesn’t even share physical appearance with Yang her sister when we know siblings look most alike in the RWBYverse.
There’s many more reasons as to the plausibility of this theory and I’d be happy to share
But big point to the biggest argument- “it was literally discredited by RT”
Well they can’t exactly go “well done, you cracked it” if this is a planned plot point to the show! And yes, I like to think this is Ruby’s subplot rather than romance. Because I think there’s two sides to the coin - romance and family; Weiss clearly has a family subplot, Yang and blake have a romance subplot (BMBLB, YAY, but BlackSun for endgame, the signs are all there, I’m sorry)
And I know a lot of people ship Ruby and Oscar
But let’s not forget OZPIN is living in his head and was her TEACHER making it rather YIKES. But also there’s a likelihood Oz and Oscar already became one person - something was clearly up towards the end of V7 with Oscar, I’m sorry
But Ruby is the one character who doesn’t need a romance subplot given her entire family based subplot with Summer and all that Jazz
So yes. The QROW IS RUBY’s FATHER theory has a rather solid grounding to it. If you think otherwise you’re blind.
Please reblog this if you are a RWBY RP blog! I’m trying to make a master list so that we can all find each other when season 3 comes out!

Tattered Red Capes
You know, the time skip outfits for Team RWBY were supposed to give visual cues to the aftermath of Volume 3 (Yang wears civilian clothes to show she’s out of the fight and recovering, Weiss no longer has red around her collar because she’s disinherited from her grandfather’s company, Blake loses the bow and wears an Assassin’s Creed outfit because she’s not hiding her Faunus identity anymore, etc).
Ruby’s cape, basically her signature clothing, is ripped and tattered as of Volume 4. Her cape is meant to be a symbol of her idealism, which has become damaged after what she witnessed in the Fall of Beacon. She’s still enough of an optimist to keep fighting, but she isn’t the same innocent girl we met back in Volume 1.
Now, who else do we know wears a tattered red cape?
Who else may have been an idealist once but had that idealism rip and fray over time?
We already have a glimpse at just how painful his backstory was.
Qrow is Ruby’s Dad: Why put this in the show?
So a lot of criticism that the Qrow is ruby’s dad theory gets is that putting it in the show would either cause a lot of problems by adding unnecessary drama or the complete opposite end of the spectrum is that it wouldn’t add anything to the show so why put it in?
Let’s run with the theory this way: Qrow and Summer were together and had Ruby, a mixture of Qrow’s Semblance and Salem got Summer killed on her last mission and Qrow’s grief was also causing his Semblance to act stronger and hurt Ruby. Salem knew of Qrow by this point as a member of Ozpin’s Inner Circle and obviously would want to find ways to get to him. With all of this, Qrow decided to hide Ruby with Taiyang and Yang whilst he got revenge on Salem which would he believed would be the only thing that would bring him enough peace to safely be around Ruby again because she would no longer be in danger. He spent several years killing Salem’s minions who were directly responsible for Summer’s death - hence why he doesn’t seem to recognise any of the bad guys despite tracking Salem for years, they replaced the ones he killed. The reason why Qrow was so pissed at Ozpin for lying about being able to kill Salem was partially because he felt Ozpin had manipulated him into believing he could get revenge for Summer’s death, be certain that Ruby would be safe, and finally have peace.
What would it add to the show?
1. Characterisation for Qrow. Qrow drinks a lot and of him and Tai has the strongest connection with Ruby. Revealing that kind of trauma would certainly explain many of Qrow’s actions and his self depreciation especially if his Semblance did play a factor in Summer’s death or he at least believes that it did.
2. Characterisation for Ruby. If this was revealed at the wrong time (i.e. Salem figures it out and tells Ruby) it could put Ruby in a tailspin of emotional confusion leaving her vulnerable. This would put Salem in a great deal of power over Ruby since now Ruby has harnessed her powers it seems likely it would be easy to harm Salem with them so Salem needs a way to delay Ruby for using them
3. Ruby and Yang: I don’t think it would weaken their relationship. If anything I think it would strengthen it especially if Yang assures Ruby that no matter what she will always be her sister.
4. Prove how threatening Salem is: If Salem killed Ruby’s mother which resulted in tearing apart her parents and causing Qrow’s extreme depression and alcoholism it shows that Salem has had a direct impact on Ruby’s life even before they met which would give an interesting dynamic when the two meet. Kind of like an Inigo Montoya moment.
5. Makes Ozpin even more morally grey if he somewhat manipulated Qrow into believing he could get revenge when Ozpin knows this isn’t the case.
Even if this theory isn’t canon, I love it regardless but still hope that it does turn out to be true.
Old Theory, New Context: Qrow is Ruby’s Dad
Personally, I’m generally somewhat neutral on the whole ‘Qrow is Ruby’s Dad’ theory. When it first cropped up back in Volume 3, I was all over it, but since then I mellowed out on it quite a bit. While I still thought it was an interesting idea, it sort of fell away. Particularly as there wasn’t any real development on this front in the show itself, and any fandom discussions were little more than broad speculation and headcanoning.
Ultimately, I decided that I wouldn’t discuss this theory until some new developments came up in the show itself that were worth discussing.
And as it turns out, this Volume has given us some very interesting developments worth talking about concerning Ruby’s and Qrow’s relationship.
The fact is, despite no direct foreshadowing or discussion of the topic, Ruby’s and Qrow’s entire dynamic this volume has been framed very strongly as a Father-Daughter relationship. Regardless of any reveals/developments to come, I think it’s pretty undeniable at this point that Qrow fills a father-figure role to Ruby.
Specifically, a relationship where the father has a substance-abuse problem and the daughter has to take charge. We see this dynamic all over the place this volume. From Qrow’s alcoholism finally being framed as a PROBLEM, to Ruby’s acknowledgement, concern and anger over this problem.
Hell, we even get significant parallels being drawn between Ruby’s experiences with Qrow’s alcoholism and Weiss’s own experiences with her alcoholic mother.
And after Qrow finally snaps out of his pit of depression and actually starts helping again, what do we get but a classic ‘accepting that your kid is growing up’ moment between him and Ruby.
I know by this point we’ve all basically conditioned ourselves to immediately interpret scenes like this as ‘Ruby does something that reminds Qrow of Summer’, but let’s take a step back for a moment and look at this more generally.
This scene is totally a ‘your little girl is all grown up’ moment. From Ruby telling Qrow (telling, mind you. Not asking permission) that he needs to trust her, to the look on growing wonder on Qrow’s face during Ruby’s triumphant moment soon after, to this quite frankly BRILLIANT bit of ‘I don’t need you to hold my hand anymore’ visual symbolism.
(Note that it’s not just Qrow letting go, Ruby also pulls away at the same time)
Oh, and if all that was too subtle, CRWBY just threw in a ‘they grow up so fact’ line from Qrow.
But that’s not all we got this Volume. We also got some very interesting narrative parallels going on too.
Looking at the times this Volume where Ruby has called out Qrow on his problems and the ideological conflict between these two, did anyone else get a feeling that all this was kinda familiar?
Specifically, very similar to what was happening with Yang and Raven?
The conflict between Ruby and Qrow this volume paints some rather striking parallels to the conflict between Yang and Raven in Volume 5. A parental/parent-like figure with a lot of problems and issues talking down to their daughter/daughter-figure, calling their dreams and aspirations naive and foolish and saying that it’s stupid for them to carry on, only for those daughters to push back hard, calling those adults out on their bullshit and bad parenting, leaving those adults ashamed at their failures. True, Ruby’s calling out of Qrow might not have been quite as brutal as Yang calling out Raven, but the underlying message is the same.
And speaking of parallels, remember Yang’s recounting of how her father ‘shut down’ after Summer’s death, leaving Yang to basically raise Ruby as a mother?
“My mom left me. Ruby’s mom left too. Tai was always busy with school and Ruby couldn’t even talk yet. I had to pick of the pieces. I had to keep things together. Alone.”
Now let’s look at Ruby’s and Qrow’s dynamic for much of Volume 6: A horrible, life-changing event happens, causing a father-figure to shut down and dive headlong into a spiral of depression, and because he’s basically checked-out completely, his daughter is forced to step up and take up his duties herself. Sound familiar?
Whether it’s Yang having to take up the role of Parent for Ruby, or Ruby having to take up the role of Leader for her team, there are some undeniably strong parallels here.
Not only that, but Qrow being Ruby’s father paints yet more parallels and foils between Qrow and Raven. Both abandoned their daughters, but in opposite ways: Qrow refuses to acknowledge himself as Ruby’s parent, but still acts as a parent, while Raven acknowledges herself as Yang’s parent, but refuses to act as an actual parent.
Second, and more broadly, I recently realized that every other member of Team RWBY has had to deal with some kind of conflict and a very complicated relationship with a parent(s):
Yang has to deal with an absent/abandoning mother.
Blake has to deal with reconnecting with the parents she’s become very estranged from.
And Weiss has to deal with a controlling and outright abusive father.
The only outlier here is Ruby, and No, having a dead mother doesn’t count. That isn’t a conflict. Summer is simply gone, there’s no conflict to be had there.
But with Qrow in the mix, the conflict is quite clear: Ruby has to deal with an alcoholic father who’s too ashamed of his own existence to even admit that he is her father.
I realize this isn’t quite the kind of ‘smoking gun’ evidence that these claims are generally built on, but the fact is Volume 6 has pushed super hard on presenting Ruby and Qrow as Daughter and Father. From all the framing of Qrow as a father-figure to Ruby, the framing of Ruby as a grown-up-daughter to Qrow, the strong parallels between the ideological conflict between Ruby and Qrow to the one between Yang and Raven last volume, not to mention the parallels with Tai, and how Ruby having to deal with an alcoholic Qrow neatly rounds out the running theme of Team RWBY having complicated relationships and problems with parents.
These are all very deliberate writing choices made by Miles, Kerry and the rest of CRWBY. They want us the audience to see Qrow as a father to Ruby. I can’t say how this will all shake out, but I am convinced that CRWBY are building to some kind of big reveal.
Oh, and to all those who will doubtlessly chime in with a butcher’s bill of reasons why Qrow being Ruby’s father is ‘Problematic’:
What part of ‘COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIP AND PROBLEMS WITH A PARENT’ did you miss?
Qrow: Boost my semblance Jaune.
Jaune: o-okay.
*Jaune boosts qrow*
News TV: This just in a meteor is heading towards mistral!!
Qrow: That’s not good
Everyone: What did you dO?!?!?!
Jaune: *points at Qrow* he made me do it!
RWBY Volume 6 Crew Commentary Notes!
I just got the Volume 6 Blu Ray and I’m going to be watching the crew’s commentary! Kerry was talking with a few others as well as Miles after chapter 1. I wrote what I found interesting or important:
Chapter 1:
They took out the blood at the White Fang Headquarters but had to add it back in later
The train station was the first new set of the season
They used Houdini for crowd shots this season
Showing what’s in the bag RWBY got for Yang is planned for next season
On each boba cup lid (from the food in the background of the train station scene) has the RWBY chibi characters
Originally they planned Ilia to wear a kimono. Also a hint to seeing her again!
Kerry’s mom wants him (Neptune) to be in the show more
The whole train set is a circle track
The Grimm manticore design was from an artist from the RWBY subreddit! Kerry saw it and he loved it and he contacted her to hire her.
There was an inside joke for the audio team where Dee dies it sounds like the track says “Oh Dee…”
Dee and Dudley barely graduated from their academy
There was originally going to be a closer shot of Salem in the OP but they wanted to keep the mystery about who she was

I done did the thing and wrote too much again because this'un hit me right in the feels when I started thinkin’ about it.
Your meeting seems random, but you know it is Ozpin’s doing.
Qrow doesn’t pay attention to you at first. He has his own problems, and they are many. Very many. You have problems too, but you know that Ozpin orchestrated this whole thing, so you say,
“You’re Qrow Branwen, right?”
It’s the beginning of the end, but you don’t know it yet.
The storm is the worst Vale has seen in over a century (Ozpin can confirm). You and Qrow are “accidentally” left alone. You don’t really know him yet, not as well as you would like to, but when you realize that you’re snowed in, you expect him to leave. You’ve seen his… bird… thing. He can leave anytime he wants to. He can go home.
He stays.
