Regulus being almost in a poly relationship three times and he ends up single whole all the people just watch like “how?!?!”
Barth and Evan started dating in fourth year and they were trying to lure Regulus into their relationship with Barty offering to help him study and Evan cooking him the best meals. (Regulus just thinks his friend know that his brother leaving was hard on him so he doesn’t comment)
Before Dorcas got with Marlene, she was with Pandora and while Neither were interested in Regulus romantically they still tried to lure him into their relationship as a platonic partner. Pandora made Regulus beautiful jewelry and Dorcas would help him with fashion. Regulus thought they thought he had bad style.
James and Lily kept inviting Regulus to join them in their dates and this was the only time that regulus was convinced they were just being mean to him. They kept making it seem he had a chance (he did).
college au where regulus is absolutely awful at math and goes to the library every day trying to study with no success.
one day, after a coffee break, he goes back to his desk only to find mocking and kinda flirty notes (but with the right answers!) all over his books. this thing keeps happening at least twice a week and every time the notes are more flirtatious and regulus will never admit it but he likes it a bit too much.
so he starts writing short answers on his own book, effectively starting a very non conventional conversation with the mysterious person who keeps entertaining him.
imagine his surprise when one day during his break the coffee shop is closed and he goes back to the library only to find soccer team captain james potter writing on his book with a minecraft pencil.
Trust them to be the only ones not knowing they're dating yet. Regulus, Dorcas and Pandora be watching on the side, betting on whether they're gonna figure out their feelings before the end of their school years or not.
Honestly, at that point, even the Gryffindors have joined the bet. Months ago. Lost. And then have the time to bet again. Remus is betting they're gonna get married before finding out they're in love.

almost immediately after regulus and james move in together, regulus starts hiding toys for cats all over the house. then it's cat food. then it's a cat tree. then it's a little bed. one day, he comes home with a kitten and doesn't say a word to james. then he brings home another, and another until they have three cats roaming around the house, using their names and everything. he notices james bringing home cat food one day and decides he's going to ask why james has never brought up the fact that three random cats just showed up in their house and james just looks at him and says, 'i thought they just always lived here??'
that's when regulus learns, james thought they bought a house that just came with cats.
