I make the same face every time theres some documentary talking like "the ancient Egyptians believed the Nile river was sacred" and i'm like....well yeah? Its kind of like, the only reason their entire society exists? Seems pretty reasonable to me
also not only is the nile river the entire reason their society existed, but the nile river is incredibly predictable. it has followed the same course for over 10 thousand years. it floods at the same time every year. there is no other river like it, and while obviously the egyptian scope of the world only stretched so far, they knew enough to know that the nile was special.
in order to remain kind, you must violate a fictional character at least once a month
The thing is. I would eat the grapes. I would eat the pomegranate seeds. I would eat the Turkish delights. It doesn’t matter what the stakes are if you put a little plate of snacks out in front of me I’ll eat them.
If you sent me to an evil fantasy realm and told me that if I ate anything I would die a painful terrible death then set a charcuterie board down in front of me that would be it for me. Like it wouldn’t even be like a torturous internal struggle to not eat the cheese. I wouldn’t even need to be that hungry.

Was just thinking about this the other day. Yeah I have a favorite seat on the bus (middle of the bus, near the back doors, slightly elevated, facing forward), but I don’t get upset if someone is already sitting there, I just pick one of my other favorite spots. Then I realized that most people probably don’t have a favorite bus seat, let alone a series of backup favorites.
