Something I don’t think a lot of people realize— Claire’s mom is named Ophelia for a reason.
She is named after Ofelia, the protagonist of Guillermo del Torro’s “Pan’s Labyrinth”, or “El Laberinto del Fauno”. The work which GDT is most well known for, Pan’s Labyrinth is a crowning jewel of Spanish storytelling. Claire’s mom is named in honor of young Ofelia,— the heroine who leads the film—and her legacy.
In all seriousness, watch this film. It is perhaps my favorite film of all time, and critically renowned as a masterpiece of cinema. The film— a dark, alluring Spanish fairytale, can only be described as woven from the things of both dreams and nightmares. Sheer poetry. A spiraling descent into fantastical reverie. It is abolsutely transportive, makes you feel so many emotions, and will leave you breathless as you return to our world. As long as you can handle the graphic images, WATCH IT.
