Reading Gideon the Ninth and I’m not convinced these ‘lesbian necromancers in space’ are ever going to make out, say they love each other or actually date. I’m getting the sense they’re going to spend all four of these books being utterly deranged in a hundred different ways that have never been done before in an extremely disturbing and lesbian fashion. This is not a criticism, I am very much on board for more of this, btw.
oh tumblr staff definitely noticed the transphobe allegations and put the entire lgbtq+ in it LMAO
The Martian of course was part of the small but notable genre of movies 'people expend huge amounts of effort to rescue Matt Damon'. In Project Hail Mary we see a foundational entry in the inverse genre 'people expend huge amounts of effort to send Ryan Gosling away forever'. Excited to see where we send Ryan Gosling next.
nothing is lost. you have your bisexual mutuals.

i confess i don't really understand what people mean when they say they cannot find good books to read anymore. like. go to the shop or library and choose a book??
the problem generally seems to be something along the lines of 'everyone on tiktok is telling me to read books i think sounds bad' and its like ok i do not think those people have your best interests at heart
My "trick" is to go to the nearest physical place where you can get books. Bookstore, library, charity shop, whatever suits you.
Once there, scan the shelves and physically pick up the first book that sparks even the slightest interest in you. No nuance, no further thoughts, just grab it.
This book is now your baseline.
From here, you can keep browsing and compare every next book you see to the one you've got in your hand.
If something else seems more interesting, swap it out! If another choice would be more practical, e.g. a little paperback instead of a thick hardcover tome whilst on vacation, swap it out! And so on and so forth, for as long as you fancy and/or have other books available.
Having a real book in hand to start with allows you to compare and contrast, which is a lot easier on the brain than hunting for the nebulous idea of a "perfect choice".
^^ yeah i know its not a great option for everyone but there's something about being able to physically browse books. online shopping is great for finding specific stuff but u cannot beat being able to pick up and handle books if you don't know what you're looking for
Banksy has confirmed that a new statue erected in London is his work and I think it might be one of my favourite pieces by him.
Called "Blinded by the Flag" it... actually, you don't need me to explain it, it's art, you'll get it and interpret it yourself.
It's in Waterloo Place, Central London, if you're nearby.
The first photo had me nodding, and then the full shot nearly killed me laughing. Perfection!
ive invented (note: dubious claim) something i call the bear diet which is mostly fruits and vegetables with fish as the main protein source and something like once a month you eat a few hyperprocessed foods of your liking because that is when you, the bear, raid a dumpster in the suburbs
after the hyperprocessed foods, do you take tranquilizers to simulate getting captured by animal control and returned to the wild?

"A marriage ending isn't a failure at all. I spent eleven years with her. We were so in love that we couldn't image life apart from each other. We got our own place, adopted a dog, and supported each other through school. I thought if tow people loved each other enough the rest would fall into place, except... love isn't everything.
And I didn't want to believe that, but we were sitting in counseling one day, talking about our future and I realized we were describing two completely different lives. Where we'd live, what kind of life we wanted, what made us happy. And it hit me that- I love this woman and this woman loved me. And after eleven years of loss, grief, career changes, we were so deeply in love... but we weren't aligned. And I kept thinking 'We just need to try harder. We can find some compromise to make this work,' because that's what you're supposed to do when you love someone, right?
But the reality was, we had just become different people. Her trade school took her in one direction, my graduate degree in another and trying to force us back into who we were five years ago wasn't coming from a place of love. It was coming from a place of fear. Fear that, if this ended, it meant we wasted eleven years. But sitting there across from her, I realized: That's not how love works.
Those eleven years happened. They were real. The dog, our home, showing up for each other through grad school and trade school. I wouldn't change a single thing because loving someone doesn't mean you're meant to stay with them forever. And letting go doesn't erase what you had. We measure marriage by whether it lasts forever or not, but what if we measured it by whether it mattered?
What if we measured it by the love we gave, the life we built, and the people we became? Because love's job isn't to last forever, it's to help you become fully completely yourself, and sometimes the most loving thing you can do is give each other permission to be yourselves, separately. But the dog doesn't know were' divorced. He just gets two Christmases now."
Pulled this from this guy Preston Rakovsky's Instagram (@prestonrack) because it is a beautiful perspective on love, marriage, and relationships in general.
ok note to self i gotta leave the house regularly so that i dont feel like im slowly transforming into an evil fucking shadow clone of myself
So as it turns out your sense of self doesnt exist in a vacuum. You gotta actually use it and bounce it off of other people like echolocation to see where you are as a person and shit. So if you dont regularly interact with other people the echoes just get weaker and weaker and before you know it your personality is a blurry fucked up fog clone of its former self. which it sucks because this makes it really hard to interact with people again but yknow
something I haven't seen people mention about The Hunger Games trilogy and movies is how it genuinely revolutionized the Minecraft server scene
