My contribution to Ribbit's and Ragatha's relationship.

Believe it or not I've been working on this comic for months now but only had the time and patience to finish it now.

Rest assured that whenever Ragatha doesn't get enough attention, I will make it my mission to make her shine.

Why are so many TADC critics on here Bunnydoll shippers??😭😭I'm not saying this because I hate Bunnydoll or anything,I honestly don't have any strong opinions on TADC ship apart from Abstragedy that while cute definitely deserved more screentime and focus-I'm just asking what is the correlation between Bunnydoll and the TADC critical space.

From my perspective (I am a Bunnydoll shipper), amongst others, Bunnydoll shippers are mostly made up of fans of the project from the Pilot era. We make up of the earliest supporters of the show and we loved it with a passion. A lot of Bunnydoll shippers became invested in the series due to Ragatha and Jax, who were very interesting as narrative foils. Basically, we liked the ambivalent dynamic they had and the idea if there was more behind it and how they would affect the main protagonist. The pilot sets them up as a primary dynamic and the early show does a good job with handling them. They seemed like the perfect narrative foils (the optimistic caring character and the nihilistic jerk character). We thought they both represented extreme philosophies and coping mechanisms within the digital circus- and we were excited to see what would come of them, as they shared a lot of similarities. How would they work alongside Pomni? What happened between them that warranted this back and forth between them, which is seeded in more than just hate like Jax and Zooble?

We also loved how Ragatha would call Jax out on his behaviors and we thought it was interesting how she could break his mask so easily. They were an interesting dynamic and as far as I know, most of us have Ragatha as our favorite character! We loved seeing her stand her ground, tell him off, and what was to come for their relationship. They resembled two sides of the same coin and we were interested to see what was to come with them.

Unfortunately, the show just kinda fell off for us. Not in a, “It doesn’t align with my headcanons/favorite ship! Therefore I hate it” but rather, it became very clear that the show no longer cared at developing Ragatha nor the other characters that weren’t Pomni but ESPECIALLY Jax. It was leaning more into Jax favoritism and the Pomni/Jax dynamic that was just characterized at the cost of Pomni’s emotional maturity and character development, leading Ragatha to fall into this weird limbo of being a background character and one that was primary to the story. Not to mention, after episode 5 blew up, fans (mostly FunnyBunny shippers) started treating us like dogshit and made the fandom incredibly toxic. Not to mention the treatment of Ragatha in the later story was one of the breaking points for us, as the show disregards her in favor of just Jax and Pomni and Goose even admits she is not a main character (despite the earlier episodes saying otherwise). The story between Ragatha and Jax interested us because of the parallels they consisted of. Especially, when it was hinted that they were formerly friends, we were excited to see if this would ever be explored and how it would tie to the themes of the show. And now that the finale is out, we came to realization that all of our investment and time was kinda wasted. We already started seeing stains in the writing post-episode 4, but the finale really made it clear that the story didn’t give a damn about the dynamic, ESPECIALLY with Ragatha. They were confirmed to be former friends and yet again, Ragatha is sidelined! All that buildup was for nothing. Even if a lot of the fandom hates our ship, we often analyze things without just blinding praising it. We loved to dive deep into the show and now that we realized it was never as good as we thought it was, we have no issue with expressing our disappointment and sadness in a critical yet retrospective manner.

Ragatha represents everything wrong with this show, because her doing nothing wrong ever proves Goose isn't capable of writing an messy abused victim thet isn't Jax.

Ragatha gets sideline, has the littlest of solo merch despite being imply a protag together with Jax and Pomni in the pilot and people in the fandom only care about who's shes ship with rather thet explore her abuse.

I don't criticise her because she cannon in show did nothing wrong, I can do it with everyone but her thet how much of a shit Goose give about her.

You'd think Jax hatred for her would have a cool backstory maybe Ragatha use to be more condescending to Jax or did something to her but no...flashback reveal she did nothing but be kind to Jax .

only recently got into tadc (hilariously bad timing ik) but i looove a messy toxic mother daughter relationship (i love you and i hate you and i am so scared of becoming you and so on) so going off of the fanart, thinkpieces, etc that came out after the leaks but before the youtube premiere, i thought it would've been sick (in a delicious way) if when ragatha learned about the situation between jax and her mother instead of trying to comfort her or feeling disturbed, ragatha just felt... jealous isn't the right word but something along those lines. like god i wish i'd been able to push back against her like you did. i wish i could've hurt her like she hurt me. i wish she'd died and i wish i'd done it. meanwhile jax (in my mind at the time) would've been grappling with the opposite thoughts (oh my god. oh my god. what have i done) as a fun flip to their characters and dynamic. anyway i hope that made all sense and wasn't weird to share, i love your art and thoughts on ragatha!! such a complex character

nothing is ever bad timing to get into something me thinks (unless ur the type of person to care about stuff like theorizing or joining an active fandom) in FACT. I feel like watching tadc in the runtime it's had vs. all in one sitting reallllly affects your general perception of it. But that's a discussion for another time

I can imagine the type of exploding you with my mind levels jax would be enacting if ragatha ever admitted that out loud. The juxtaposition in how they aren't able to do the thing that their mind wishes for the most. Wow wow wow....

One of my biggest issues with TADC is that it presents Ragatha's people-pleasing as something she needs to get rid of/fix for other people and not for herself.

What does she owe the others (apart from Gangle and maybee Kinger) when nobody helped her when it was obvious she was being abused?

Sure, we had that talk between Ragatha and Kinger about giving herself a break, but it doesn't take away the fact that the show frames her as the one in the wrong for reacting to Jax the way she did because he was provoking her and had abused her for so long.

Jax could commit tons of crimes/never change, and the show will use the "he's sad 🥺" excuse plus use Pomni as his shield, but if Ragatha doesn't act nice for a few seconds, she gets treated like the villain, and if she keeps being nice, she's "fake" and undeserving of love until she changes (that doesn't matter either because all she got were crumbs as small as Jax's complexity).

Ykw I am still mad that Jax gets a whole look into his inner psyche and everyone in the circus reaching out to him while Ragatha gets a talk after the show that somehow smooths everything over.

Whats worse is how Pomni goes "Hey look after the kids they cant fix their emotional mess without you (even tho gangle and zooble never talk to you abt their problems and kinger didn't even think to tell you abt the dark memory thing). I'm gonna go save Jax thru power of friendship (even tho Kinger didn't get to do the same with Queenie) dw I'll be right back.

The last thing I’ll say on this is the confirmation that abstraction = suicide means that Ragatha watched Jax engage in a predatory cycle of getting close to people and then driving them to suicide, rightly assumed Jax was trying to do the same to Pomni (because Ragatha had no context for ANYTHING because Jax WOULDN’T TALK TO HER),

And when she called Jax out on it and said “I know what you’re trying to do!” both Jax and THE SHOW tried to gaslight us into thinking RAGATHA is the crazy, overbearing one

And you still have fans claiming RAGATHA is the problem

It burns me up knowing that Ragatha was the only one who didn't justify Jax, but she still tried to include him and cared about him too just as Jax knew deep down that he cared about Ragatha, and all his talk about her being fake was just him trying to convince himself he didn't want her.

Their relationship had something that neither Ribbit nor Pomni could offer to the narrative: INDIVIDUALITY AND COMPLEXITY. They complement each other's conflicts, and neither one is flat or orbits around the other. Plus, neither coddles the other or justifies their actions."
