I've been monitoring the OFMD fanfic situation for the last couple weeks and it is incredibly disheartening to see the direction it's already gone in

Shortly after Bottom Ed was cemented as the default, Trans Ed started climbing in popularity and now it seems like there's at least one per page on the AO3 listings

So where tf may I ask does this leave Stede? The man spent the entire season slowly figuring out why his heterosexual marriage made him so uncomfortable and upset (to the point of tears, Mary points out!) and at the end it all clicks into place for him: he's gay, and in love with a man. The female body doesn't excite him, the male body does.

And the fandom wants the man he loves to be female.

That’s so upsetting tbh. We finally get a really good gay story, that highlights a real struggle so many gay people have had and still have… and people still feel the need to heterosexualify it. Even though a huge part of Stede’s storyline is that he’s gay and couldn’t be happy with any woman, so it’s freeing for him to be able to find somebody he can actually love, and to find that in a man.

I understand that a huge talking point right now is “genital preference/fetishes” and how “gay men have to like trans men and vaginas because otherwise it’s transphobic!!”, but that’s always just been a disgusting display of homophobia. And it’s always been a complete lack of regard for homosexuals and our lived experience, which is clearly carrying over into people’s writing.

It’s always weird to see it being portrayed in fiction, because it feels almost as if the writers are trying to convince themselves that they’re right that a gay man could be attracted to female anatomy, and maybe trying to live their homophobic fantasy vicariously through fiction?

I swear today's teens are so mentally fucked up it isn't funny. They legit think that fashion styles are genders and that posting your nudes on Onlyfans is a legit career choice and that it's normal to be surrounded by "friends" who will cancel you and ruin your life the moment you say one thing they disagree with and that getting choked out while having sex is normal and that being constantly afraid of social ostracization is just the way friendship works and that businesses using your personal info to control the media and products you are advertized isn't something to worry about.

I don’t hate trans women. I hate that trans ideology is repackaged conservatism and wildly misogynistic and homophobic. I hate that I lived in Tennessee for 24 years and moved to the west coast in hopes of freely being able to be gay just to hear the same fucking rhetoric. I have long dyed hair. It's baffling how, despite being in a country where homosexuality is on the books as a criminal offense and people have marched through the streets to keep it that way, people still seem to believe that gay people wield immense power in society, always have our way, and are completely accepted. Not in a reverent way, but in an attempt to get us to shut up.

To too many people, 30 countries allowing same-sex marriage means more than 70 countries, including their own and countries like theirs, who think that prison is appropriate punishment for an act of love.

I am so, so sick of hearing people try to pit gay people as colonisers or oppressors, because we happen to be gay, as if that's how axes of oppression work. Your sexuality doesn't take away from or alter your nationality or race, and it definitely doesn't make you a villain against your own people.

You can't bring up the struggles of gay people without someone saying 'but what about [other completely unrelated issue]?'. They ignore us, or try to shut us up by making themselves the victim at the centre of the story again. People don't listen to us, they don't care about our stories or our pleas, and they don't want to acknowledge that we're people like them, living among them.
