The reading comprehension and overall common sense on this website is piss poor.
how dare you say we piss on the poor

they won't tell you this in therapy but sometimes the best way to stop catastrophizing/anxiety is to interrupt your spiraling with "girl what the hell are you talking about"

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

disney concept art: the most beautiful dynamic original thing i have ever seen
disney finished project: rubber same face minimalism regurgitated plots
concept art:
final version:
What makes me so mad is that snow queen is such a lovely tale and there was an evil mirror that shattered and froze the queen’s heart. So the first thing the newly evil queen does is PLUNGE THE KINGDOM INTO ETERNAL WINTER.
And the kid Anna is based off of is actually this sweet peasant girl who is rescuing her best friend whom everyone else thought drowned and whom no one cared for because mirror shards got in his eyes and he only saw beauty in snowflakes while everything else was just disgustingly foul to him. Except he didn’t drown because he was whisked away by the snow queen.
Like this girl gives her shoes to the river to find out he didn’t drown. Her hair ribbons to the birds to find out who took him. Works her hands raw to get to him and has to suffer a mental breakdown because she got SO FUCKING CLOSE to saving him and he won’t even look at her because he wants to solve this puzzle the snow queen gave him.
And then her sobbing wakes him up and he cries and washes the shards from his eyes and the fact that she saved him is enough to melt the snow queens heart and she brings spring back to the kingdom.
Wow Frozen really is some weak shit
Let’s not forget Gerda’s journey takes her along a long road that includes meetings with multiple women, many of them old, most of whom are not evil witches but wise women who aid her in her quest. She’s also at one point held captive by a bandit princess who swaps clothes with her and insists on sleeping in the same bed and routinely threatens her with a knife, but she eventually lets Gerda go with a magic talking reindeer she was also holding captive. The bandit princess cries because goddamn Gerda you’re so NICE and PRETTY and BRAVE and you clearly care about this stupid guy I GUESS and I can’t bear it just GO ok just GO and also you better fucking take care of her reindeer or I will CUT YOU.
The story is full of interesting complex women of many ages and magical talking animals and it’s a real shame we didn’t get an adaptation closer to the original ‘cause it’s really cool.
hey good news about the adaption:
There was a Soviet animated movie from 1957, that doesn’t brush over any of the things you just listed.
You get Gerda on her journey, meeting all of those people that both hinder her quest and help her, with older women from different regions of northern europe, as well as several princesses who aid her
also the art style and animation is absolutely gorgeous and I always feel like it’s a shame that older Soviet animation is barely recognized around the world
you can see the entire thing with english subtitles here
There is probably ONE thing Soviet Russia did right and ARGUABLY BETTER than anyone else in the entire world in the past 100 years of human history: ANIMATION.
And this is something that unfortunately is literally a case of “dumping the baby with water”. The art, the vision, the designs, the storytelling and the approach to olden tales, fairytale, folk tales, children’s books and poems etc, is beyond FAR BEYOND than you may imagine.
Some notable moments of Soviet Russian Animation include (not in any particular order but my own brains spitting images):
The Hedgehof In The Fog (1975)
Which is considered revolutionary and is still a staple of Russian speaking cultures and is regarded as an important piece of Animation in freaking Japan (aka the nation of Animation). If you want to deep dive into the unique stop motion art and the importance of this piece, Google away.
Another animation I love is “Fedora’s Grief” (1974).
A short animation about how objects left unattended and uncared for will not serve you, the human. It’s such an essential part of the Soviet Experience of the common person, which is hard to describe to people who were born to abundance.
I would also love to cite The Cat Leopold (1975-1987), which, for me, forever describes the naiveté of the simple, common soviet person, as we today love citing, “People Are Not Their Governments”.
This one is the antithesis to Tom & Jerry, for all it’s worth: there are tow mice forever taunting the cat, and in each episode the cat asks them, “let’s live in friendship”.
YouTube had a whole archive of the old Soviet animations. If you are looking for beauty and design, and art - these were all state sponsored, and thus - had funds for their visions. No, not all of soviet animation and film was any kind of USSR propoganda (looking at you, US cinema, 30s Batman in black and white), and to some very confusing extent, you see many animations honoring source material or being innovative in their own right, regardless of authority.
Some beautiful animations I would love people to know about:
This series, named “Kitten Named Gav” (1976-1982)
“Gav” is literally “how” as in barking sound. So it’s about a Kitten named “bark” and his little cat adventures with his friend, a puppy.
Sleeping Beauty (and 7 princes) (1951)
The Frog Queen (1954)
The Cat, That Wanders By Itself (1964)
[Yes, cats feature often, and in positive context]
“The Flower with Seven Colours” (1948)
Ugly Duckling (1956)
And you know what, this one, is just. It’s about a polar bear cub, ok? Looking for his polar bear mother.
Umka (1969)
This Wikipedia Article openjng paragraph kind of encapsulates the bleak acknowledgment of the art, stating:
All in all. Yes, the Soviet Animation, in context of today, is the baby thrown out of the window of history with the muddy water, and I, for one, will not stand for it.
I wish more people knew about those beautiful artworks.
I wish people knew that techniques that were tried out and pioneered in those animations way back in the 40s inspired Walt Disney works. I wish people made more art and less war.

Are there any similar blogs like yours (whether it’s on Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, etc. fashion)?
Hi, thanks for the question.
For Chinese historical fashion there are many other blogs on Tumblr. This is not a comprehensive list just the ones I know :3
@ziseviolet has the ultimate compilation of general hanfu information.
@fouryearsofshades educational hanfu content, like analyzing hanfu trends and their historical precedents.
@hanfu-asks tutorials and specific information about sewing hanfu. They seem to be on semi-hiatus.
@guzhuangheaven posts about period dramas and sometimes talks about their costumes.
@hanfugallery photo sets of hanfu from all eras and sometimes explanations as well.
@fuckyeahchinesefashion Chinese fashion from all eras and also period costumes.
@vintagechinese vintage Chinese fashion and film, though they seem to have stopped posting :.(
For other countries I don’t know as many blogs but I went and found a few. If any of these is problematic/factually questionable please let me know.
For Japan:
@taishou-kun Japanese fashion, art and film 19th century onward. I love that they have a lot of modernist art that is very rare to see and often neglected in favor of the more conventional geisha stuff.
@tanuki-kimono seems to be a hub for kimono enthusiasts.
@geimaiko writes about geisha culture and the kimono they wear.
@koikishu mostly kimono, but also fashion from other Asian countries.
@onna-musha historical Japanese fashion and culture, with a lot of content about fierce female warriors for some reason. I stan.
@thekimonogallery historical kimono and Japanese culture.
For Vietnam:
@lotusinjadewell compiled a short history for Vietnamese fashion, and posts photo sets of Vietnamese historical fashion and modern aodai.
For Korea:
@kimono-hanbok joint blog for kimono and hanbok.
@hanboki-blog Korean historical art, photographs and extant fashion items.
Others:
@sartorialadventure mostly Western historical fashion but sometimes they post various non Western fashions as well.
@non-westernhistoricalfashion like the name suggests, non Western historical fashion from a variety of eras.
Feel free to add to this list!!
The Vietnamese historical fashion scene is mostly on Facebook, so you probably won’t find it much on Tumblr, but here is another one @vietphuc. The blogger is no longer active but the old posts still have tons of information.
Thanks for pointing that out. It looks like they have a lot of information, sad that they are no longer posting :(
For hanfu (and Chinese fashion in general) I also recommend: @changan-moon, @newhanfu, @dressesofchina, @fuxindi. I have more recs in the blog recs tag.
For Indian fashion, I recommend @vintageindianclothing.
If you’re interested in Historical/Traditional Asian fashion (for Avatar reasons or otherwise), these links are a great place to start!
pet peeve is when you look up fashion references from a specific era and you keep getting modern day '[era]-inspired' fashion like NO i want authenticity damn it. i can see your 2020 photo quality and your 2020 hair and your 2020 makeup. youre not fooling me.
hello i'm a historical fashion researcher and i have a lot of experience looking up things! this is a very widely experienced irritation and you're definitely not alone in this, but i am here to share everything i know!
so, ways to get around this:
turn off AI results. they're literally nonsense to us
don't use pinterest because the sources/provenance is often hard to trace
a standard internet search can be okay, but museum collections are the top tier (list of collections below this list)
instead of broad terms like victorian, regency, tudor, renaissance etc. try using the decade you're looking for. if you're not sure of what decade it is but have a vague image in your head, look on the fashion history timeline and just jump around until you find it. but even changing to e.g. 19th century will give better results than victorian
including terms like womenswear/menswear, daywear, formal wear, evening wear, court dress should increase the value of your search too
including "fashion plates" in your search can give you a nice impression of the intended silhouettes of the era. some of these might be a little stylised but will show you what was considered in vogue
for pre-fashion plate eras or things like makeup and styling, you'll have to look at portraiture or manuscripts. these are harder to actually find what you're looking for, but searching museum collections and limiting results to specific date ranges will be your friend
when looking at art, do bear in mind sometimes artists would paint fabric extra flow-y to show off their skills. it might not have been exactly like that in terms of fabric weight or drape. so, a pinch of salt required!
if you find something on image search where the provenance is dubious, reverse image search and you might find a source! i've been able to trace random pinterest images to real sources, but this does take a lot of time and effort and is often not worth the headache
some online resources and museum collections:
fashion history timeline is an invaluable resource if you're trying to get a feel for everything and should be your first port of call. it'll also link to good examples
the met has a vast number of extant examples of clothing, as well as fashion plates
costume institute fashion plates is a subcollection of the met for fashion plates (1800s-1922)
v&a also has many extant garments, fashion plates, and incredible articles on clothing and aesthetics. read the details of the objects because they'll often reveal a lot about the piece
lacma is good for C19th-20th pieces
nypl digital collection for photographs
national portrait gallery or similar for portraiture, or literally any museum in your country that has historical art
national museums scotland can be useful situationally but might be oddly specific
stout style history is a great collection for finding image references for fat people wearing historical clothes. survival bias of a lot of museum pieces tends towards smaller clothing that couldn't be repurposed, but this aims to counter that. it's not sortable, but is still a really nice resource
wikimedia commons is surprisingly handy! and the images, if you should need to link/repost them, are public domain
auction websites sound like a funny one to recommend. some won't have mannequins and some will. just look up historical garment auctions and you'll find some!
anyway, i hope this has been a good place to start for anyone interested! there are probably some i've missed because there are so many museums across the world and i don't know about all of them or can't remember them. but these are the ones i've used the most! (my specialisation/jobs i've had to research for have only really been in western fashion, so my resources reflect that)
Wikipedia has a list of fashion museums. Unfortunately, the page itself is only available in German, but the introductory paragraph is very short and after that, it's organised by country, and then it's a simple list. If you click on a museum's article, the website is usually linked in the overview table.
condom obviously breaks while putting it on and both of you just pretend you didn't see it because you want it so bad
Oh... oh.... he....
you two play into it, too. whispering about how good it is that he's wearing a condom, how bad it's be if he came inside you.
"I'm not on birth control," you whimper as he drives into you. "You'd put a baby in me."
"G-good thing I'm wearing a condom," Kirishima grits. the latex has rolled down to the base of his cock. "Or else I'd have to pull out."
Your legs wrap around his waist and his hands clutch at your ass, neither of you planning to let the other go.
the next time you two have sex, he's not even inside you when he gasps, hard cock in his hand.
"Baby-" His cock taps against your sticky clit. "We forgot to put on a condom."
"Are you sure?" Your hand smears his excitement and yours across his cock as you guide him inside you. "I could have sworn you put on a condom."
"Ah-" he slips in all the way. "No. fuck, I fucked you raw."
The way Kirishima fucks you is all consuming. He holds you tight, legs up, faces smooshed-
"Came so deep inside you," he grunts. "I tried to pull out, I tried-"
"But I'm ovulating," you whine. "I probably already have your baby in me."
sorry I think this is extra hot if you two aren't actually trying for a baby. you're just caught up in the moment. in how good it feels.

World-class comments section
on your mama’s soul, you know that your co-worker inumaki is eating your damn flowers. you just can’t prove it yet.
“leave that boy alone, will you?” your boss at the flower shop laughs it off. “go on, mind the register. still got 20 minutes until closing.”
gojo might be daft, but you’re not. you can feel your sherlock cells tingling - toge inumaki is chowing down on the cherry blossoms when you’re not looking. devouring the daisies when you’re out for your smoke break. snacking on the sunflowers when you're busy misting the greenhouse.
your friends always said that you’re bad at picking up clues, but not this time. this time you’re a bloodhound on inumaki’s evil trail.
why does he always stutter and go red to his ears whenever you try to talk to him? he’s scared that you’re onto him.
why does he always hang around you at work? because he’s trying to keep you from spilling his secrets to your boss.
why does he always have a mask on? because he’s chewing flowers underneath—that’s why!
why does he disappear to the toilet every hour? to eat. more. flowers.
from your seat at the till, you squint to see what inumaki’s doing all the way at the back. sure, it looks like inumaki is trimming the pine bonsai, but what is he really up to?
“you sound like a flat-earther." gojo just shakes his head. “god, i hope you’re better at accounting than detective work.”
ego slightly injured that he’s not taking you seriously, you present the strongest evidence you have: “i go check the toilet every time he’s done in there.” you ignore your boss’s disgusted face, instead hammering the point home with a clap after each word. “there’s. always. flowers. in there.”
but gojo just shrugs and gets to arranging a bouquet to take home to the husband. he’s compromised, you realise. in your mind you throw the cigar down and stomp on it, striking a melancholy pose after.
it’s very difficult when your moriarty is a master manipulator—all that business being cute as hell with his adorable lavender eyes. that’s how he brings in good business for gojo, high school girls lining up after classes to hit on him. he always sends them away with a sweet smile and just shakes his head when he sees you staring. not like you care or anything.
he’s devious in other ways too, always doing things to make people think that he is so not a flower-eating freak. small gestures like taking over the opening shift for you, knowing that you hate it. bringing you flan to share after lunch. this one time he held up an entire rack of flower pots, six feet high, when you accidentally knocked it over.
see? who knew he was athletic like that? talk about having skeletons in his closet.
it’s been on your mind day and night—the very thought that inumaki could be at the flower shop right now, doing his dirty business unstopped, vexes you terribly.
“there! he’s chewing under his mask right now! go catch him!” you suddenly cry out, unknown to inumaki, who’s quietly mumbling along to kendrick on his earbuds. “gojo–sensei!”
“can’t move.” your boss retorts without missing a beat. “have this condition called ‘i-think-you’re-full-of-crap.’”
“you know what?” you pull yourself to your full height. this must be what alexander felt when he crossed the rubicon. “fine. i’ll save our flowers myself.”
you march over to the villain, determined to end his evil plans once and for all. those flowers that you spent months growing did not deserve to become inumaki’s poop. he almost jumps out of his skin when you yell his full government name.
gojo puts his feet up at the cash register. he wasn’t going to miss this.
“i know what you’re up to, toge.” he goes rose-red, barely having taken his earbuds out with shaky hands when you point a finger at his face. “take your mask off and spit the damn flowers out.”
he stutters on the first syllable of your name.
“oh, yeah, you’re caught red-handed. i know everything.”
inumaki looks absolutely terrified, his jaw tight and sweaty, and it looks like he’s about to have a heart attack. jesus.
and suddenly you hear the first words he’s ever said to you. or around you. very quiet, unsteady—a voice not used to speaking. but you hear it. “... everything?”
“uh-huh. that’s sick of you, toge.” he visibly blanches. “so weird. you’ve got to stop it.”
for a second, it looks like he’s fighting back the urge to vomit. then he just drops his head and nods.
“see, gojo-sensei? i was right! i bet you’ve got flowers in your mouth right now, don’t you?” inumaki painfully nods again, spitting out a few slimy petals of carnations and tulips. bit odd, you don’t keep carnations, but maybe he bit them off a street plant.
wait. your keen inductive logic is telling you that if this guy’s eating shit off random trees, it might be more than deliberate coworker sabotage. add this to his almost-mutism... maybe it's a medical condition, now that you think of it, like pica or ocd, that he’s struggling with. shit, did you just out a struggling, sick, chlorophyll-addicted poor sod in his place of employment?
you call him one last time as he's pathetically limping away.
“uh, hey, toge, you can—you can eat the cheap ones if you want. we have so many marigolds they’re starting to rot, you can eat them once in a while. if you want."
“eat?” comes a whisper-question.
“yeah, you shouldn’t quit cold turkey. wean off slowly.” you kinda pride yourself on your apparently limitless knowledge. just a win after win today. “you can eat the marigolds till then.”
with each word you speak, it gradually descends on you that he’s just as baffled as you are. which makes no sense.
“... you are eating flowers, aren’t you, toge?”
toge inumaki closes his eyes for a good ten seconds and inhales. on one hand, he can feel his pulse running again, on the other, he’s asking himself if he really chose this idiot to love. you’re still staring at him with your cute dumbass face when he opens his eyes and he knows that yes, he did.
because everything that you are accusing him of makes sense with just one word– “hanahaki.” he points at himself and then at the flowers on the ground.
“hanahaki? you’ve found your soulmate and they don’t love you? god, i’m so sorry!” you scrunch your eyebrows, a lonely brain cell working overtime to connect the dots. “who?”
inumaki, stomach hurting again, decides that this is all the humiliation he can take in one dose. he’s about to run away when–
“you, you fucking idiot!” gojo screeches from across the flower shop, climbing over the till on all fours. “god hold me back, toge inumaki has a crush on you!”
your first reaction is that this a very elaborate prank. inumaki’s the kind of guy who’s liked by so many other girls that you didn’t even allow yourself the foolishness of imagining you have a chance. any second now, both boys are going to go– “sike! you thought, bitch.” but it doesn’t come. instead, inumaki drops to a squat and buries his face under his arms. the tips of his ears are so red it hurts to watch.
holy shit. toge inumaki has a crush on you.
… how do you respond to someone having a crush on you?
“oh. my. god.” gojo’s straight up standing on the till now, unimaginably frustrated that his romcom leads are this incompetent. “toge, do you want to go out with her?”
the boy nods, still hidden under his arms.
“you, idiot, you want to go out with him?”
you think of all red flowers– poppies, carnations, roses, and dahlias– and you wonder if you’re redder than them when you nod too.
“then, congrats, kids, you’re going out with each other!” gojo’s almost frothing at his mouth. “now get out!”
toge inumaki has no clue how this all happened. one moment he was clipping the pine, and the other he’s walking hand in nervous hand with the coworker he’s been pining over for so long. it’s like his heart’s going to burst from the stress and happiness.
he tries to ignore the constant texts from gojo telling him how he’s got to clean his puked up flowers tomorrow. he's got far more exciting things to focus on right now. neither of you know what to do, so you settle on ice cream and exchange minecraft ids to play together after you go home.
when you ask him what flavour he wants to eat he looks straight at you and picks rose.
