Oh my gosh, yes! Here's some Scottish-isms thanks to my husband:
Sneakers - Trainers
Joggers - Sweats (or tracksuit depending on the context)
Rucksack - Backpack
Pish/Pished (Piss/Pissed) - To be super drunk (same as the "pissed" definition above, except I've only ever heard it pronounced with an -sh instead of -ssed)
Sweeties - Used to refer to a sweet treat or snack.
Shop - Used interchangeably for any store (most Scottish people rarely use store names unless its a big box store)
"Let's get a sweetie from the shop, yeah?"
Tesco - Scottish (and European? Idk I've only been to Scotland lol) grocery store. Their equivalent of a Walmart. They sell home goods, food, and gas.
Bonnie - Cute/Pretty younger woman or girl
^^^ Okay so, the fandom as a whole has adopted this word for Soap. I'll admit, I've used it in fics too. However, from my personal experience, men will rarely call a woman "Bonnie". The only time I've ever been called "Bonnie" was by the older women I came into contact with. It's a more of an innocent term of endearment (like I said though, I have no issue with it. Soap is the type to take an innocent term and make it nasty, so keep going off ya'll).
Another thing from my personal experience - Scottish men will happily call you "pretty" or "beautiful". They employ the same flirting techniques as American. I've also noticed is that in a crowd of Scottish people, their accents get thicker, but one-on-one they almost seem to dim it down a bit (could be because I'm a foreigner but I noticed it happening between friend/family members so idk)
The year is 2042. Your daughter is awkwardly silent as she eats her dinner. โSomething wrong sweetie?โ She sighs and puts down her fork. โI was digging really deep in AO3 last nightโฆWhy didnโt you finish that coffee shop au?โ It happened. Your past has come back to haunt you. Nay, it never truly left.
OKAY BUT WAIT. This has happened to me. Recently. Because I am old and I have things out there from previous fandoms with previous pseuds and one day my teenager begins a rant at me about people never finishing any WIPs on the pit of voles (which he does not call the pit of voles because he has No Knowledge of such a thing but yet he still reads on which I didnโt think anyone did any longer) and he points out an example to me of something I WROTE AND LEFT WIPing for ages and he has NO IDEA #1 that his mom wrote this and #2 How much it still haunts me to this day that it will. sit. there. for. eternity. because I am too lazy to pull it down.
Eric Andre is Jewish btw. I feel like a lot of people assume he isn't bc of racism or bc they assume every word out of his mouth is sarcastic but he is Jewish and has talked about it.
