The fact that this is addressed to the parents, not the kids, is especially creepy?
Anyway, Federal Child Labor Laws: (apply to ALL states)
--Children under 14 (13 for agricultural labor) can only be employed by their own parents/guardians
--14-15 year olds are limited to 3 hours per day, 18 hours per week during the school year (up to 8 hours on weekends/holidays), and 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week when school is not in session.
--They are also limited to working 7am-7pm (or 9pm during the summer), and only outside of school hours
--Only a specific list of jobs are permitted for children of this age (relevant to this, they are allowed to reheat food, wash dishes and equipment, and do some limited cooking/food prep such as washing vegetables). Any work outside this list is prohibited.
--There is also a broad list of jobs/duties they are prohibited from (including any work with ladders, or work with powered meat slicers or several types of powered baking equipment)
--Oh, hey, this is interesting! The federal minimum wage for employees under the age of 20 is $4.25 for the first 90 days they hold a job. I wonder how many days fall between the end of the school year and the start of the next. Oh? Just about 90? What an odd coincidence, that this company would be looking to hire children just before the time of year when they can work (a) later hours (b) more hours per week and (c) likely to need to stop before they get shifted to the full minimum wage.
(An entirely different set of rules apply to agricultural work, and for working directly for one's parents or family. There are also some jobs allowed to children under 14. I'm not going into those.)
Now, I'm not opposed to 14 and 15 year olds working appropriate jobs. I babysat at that age, other kids mowed lawns, raked leaves, life guarded at pools, etc.
But there is something a little predatory about this sign, particularly going up now.
And as people have pointed out, kids that age don't know their rights. They don't know the laws. And even if they do, they don't know that the laws are there to *protect* them. I've known plenty of teenagers who think they boss is *doing them a favor* by allowing them to work outside their limited hours, or continue working while clocked out for their lunch break. When I worked as a waitress, my manager suggested this as a way to earn extra tips. Heck, I was almost THIRTY, and you wouldn't believe how many little ways they tried to wriggle around the rules to get a little more work out of me. (Unless you've worked this kind of job, then you'd absolutely believe it.)
Another thing--these jobs are *exhausting.* I've worked manual labor, I've worked in schools, retail, all kinds of jobs, but nothing made me end the day, back throbbing, fling-myself-into-bed tired like working in a restaurant. I don't know what it is, maybe the hectic pace of the busy hours, maybe the way you're expected to be busy every second of your time there, maybe it's the fact that I spent most of each day walking as fast as I could from one end of the building to the other. I don't know. But I wouldn't wish that on any 14-year-old.
So, anyway, I'm looking at this little flyer, and I'm concerned. Not because I don't think a 14-year-old should ever work. But because I'm trying to think why a BK would put out a sign SPECIFICALLY asking for the youngest age they can employ, with NO details suggesting this is a special youth-support or training program, only A FEW WEEKS before summer vacation, and targeted to their PARENTS who, let's face it, are probably eager to get some time away from the kids after the last year.
Why would any business make this SPECIFIC ad? I don't know, but every answer I come up with doesn't sit well with me.
With the current shortage of adults willing to work an exhausting job at a non-living wage, they are looking for anyone else they can exploit. A business should be considered failing if it canāt pay its adult employees enough to get by.
Also relevant: these kids are almost certainly not vaccinated, and its extremely clear they will not be protected, especially as places relax mask mandates. In 2020 being a line cook was the most dangerous job in the country, the conditions that caused that danger haven't changed. This will get some of these kids killed.
Oh hey, remember this post?

re-reblog if you remember what it felt like to walk out of blockbuster an hour later with a movie you had to settle for cause all the ones you wanted werenāt there.
Wearing a mask slaps actually. My face is Not Exposed and I don't have to perform facial expressions for neurotypicals as much
I mouthed "bitch" at a rude old woman and she'll never know
Straight women should unionize
What the actual FUCK
This right here is a HUGE red fucking flag. If youāre in a relationship with someone who wants complete control over finances, especially to the point where you donāt even have access to money, this is an attempt to control and isolate. They will use ALL sorts of excuses. āIām better with moneyā āYou spend too muchā āYouāre too impulsiveā etc. It has nothing to do with looking out for you or money. Itās straight up abuse and will likely lead to worse.
Also, women need to be independent in every way they can. And they also need to know whatās going on with their finances, even if their husband makes all the decisions or whatever bs goes on. Because (true story), one day that husband could die and youāll find out that youāre in a crazy amount of debt that you never knew about because he didnāt tell you shit and that gets to be a lovely surprise after the funeral.
Women should ABSOLUTELY be independent and you should ABSOLUTELY keep your banking separate.
HOWEVER!
If you are in that circumstance?
Grocery shopping and gas stations and big box stores are your BEST friend. I know weāre in a pandemic but put on an N-95 and go. Use your debit card every time and take out 20-40 dollars each time you shop for these sorts of things because that doesnāt read as a withdrawal. It counts as part of the shopping. Women have been doing this for GENERATIONS now. My mother did it when my father was financially abusing her and she taught me and now? I pas this on to you.
Take your 20-40 dollars a trip and put the cash somewhere he wonāt look.
Where wonāt he look? With a friend who he doesnāt want to know. In the yard he expects you to care for. In the laundry he wonāt do. In the kids room where he doesnāt go because that is your job. In the dog food he expects you to refill.
Or.
In you can take that money and put it a fucking bank he doesnāt use. Under your name and your name ONLY. Because when you leave him - which on average will take 7 attempts because thats how many times it takes to leave an abuser - you will need all the money you can squirrel away.Ā Depending on how often a woman runs absolutely necessary errands and how much money a family makes, she can squirrel away 1K+ in a year this way which may not seem like much but itās enough for a softer landing than ZERO especially if sheās not working.
Take care of yourself ladies.
Thats amazing advice.
Also, if youre looking for a good way of doing shared bank accounts etc, hereās how a friend of mine and her husband did it that seemed to work well for them:
50% of each of their pay went into a shared account. He earned significantly more than she did, but it didnāt matter; they did 50% of each of their income into a shared account.
Each of them have a card for that account, and thats whatās used to pay rent, bills, buy groceries, etc. Anything that is for both of them comes out of that account. The netflix account, petrol when they go places together, meals out on weekends, etc.
The 50% that doesnt go into the shared account goes into their own personal account and could be spent however the hell they each wanted. He wants to buy a remote controlled toy car, he can; its coming out of his own account and he can spend it on what he likes. She wants to buy another pair of shoes? She can, its coming out of her own account and she can spend it on what she likes.
This means they didnt have the whole āugh, you bought a toy car/another pair of shoes before the rent came out? Before we bought groceries? Etc/whatever?ā Their mutual costs were covered by the mutual account, and the rest of their spending was up to their own discretion.
This method wouldnāt work for everyone, mind, but it seemed to work for them.
man y'all could not suck disney's dick any harder
"if you pirate a movie, think about all the crew members who won't get paid! doesn't the camera man deserve to eat? not everyone involved is rich!" camera guy already got paid, my dude. he genuinely doesn't care whether the movie is successful. he doesn't get a cut. paycheck is already in his pocket and that's all he's gonna get. he's already moved on to the next gig
I may be misremembering this but I'm pretty sure only the higher ups (director, the big name celebrities, ect.) get paid on the back end (based on the success of the movie).
The lower people, like the cameraman, their earnings come out of the original budget. They've already been paid and you paying to watch the movie now only helps the millionaire involved in making the movie.
Yes that is exactly how it works
May you find exactly what you want at the thrift shop, in your price range, next time youāre there.
canāt pass up this kinda karma
and in your size
definitely cant pass it up now jeez
It is our duty as feminists to protect and respect women in Hijabs
Now. More. Than. Ever.
Question: if I see someone pull off a Hijab, what should I do? I know there are reasons they are worn so I want to if i should stand in between them and who did this, should i protect them from view somehow, or something else? This has been happening a lot so I feel itās something everyone needs to know.
Good question! I cannot correctly and effectively answer, as I am a white, non-Muslim person; however, I will reblog in case any of my followers can answer.Ā
I asked my Hijabi friend, so hereās one Hijabiās answer:Ā
āmy opinion is, definitely try cover them or give them something to cover themselves with. And perhaps shoo off the person, without putting oneself in danger! God forbid, if that happened to me, I would like someone to come and comfort me and give me something to cover my hair with and then help me report it to the cops ā
(Followers, if any of you are hijabi and would like to expand on this answer or offer alternatives, please do.)
If u see it happen to 1 of us, pls cover our head + hair with a coat or shawl or any piece of cloth, while hugging us in comfort. Please donāt get hurt by lashing out @ the perpetrators in any way, coz if they dare to do that, theyāre probably too far gone in their own hatred to listen to any reason. Much love + Thank You to anyone who supports us.
yes !! everything said here is important af. if you see someone pull off a girlās hijab immediately cover her hair and provide comfort. donāt talk to the perpetrator but try to get the woman out of there if you can. maybe if you have a scarf on you at the time give it to her so she can wear it until sheās alone and can replace her hijab. please please protect muslim girls because we already had it hard before donald trump became president and now its gonna be worse with people going around thinking their violence and cruelty is justifiedĀ
for my other white ppl who might have a hard time, itās my understanding that a hijab is like a major item of clothing, not an accessory like a hat or a scarf. so think abt it more like if someone just ripped someoneās shirt or skirt off. u donāt want to be left there exposed or have to walk home without it.
everyone, even outside America needs to protect our Muslim sisters in these times.
as a man, what would be the best thing to do? should i turn my head and avoid looking at their hair? can i still offer a jacket or something similar?
^Iām hoping someone has an answer islamaphpbia is on the rise in my town and I want to be a good male non Muslim ally
For men, yes please, we would prefer it if you avoided looking at our hair, and if we donāt have something to substitute as a hijab at that moment, anything you could lend us, a jacket, etc, would be very appreciated.
Also, since most girls avoid physical contact with men theyāre not related to, please do not hug them, but rather shoo the offender away if you can, or at least escort the girl to a safe place. You can still offer words of encouragement and support. Furthermore, understand that the victim may not be very welcoming towards you because sheāll obviously be shaken, and wonāt know where you are coming from. If thatās the case, please still give her something to cover herself (hijab is very important, think of it as someone ripping your shirt off) and stand some distance away until you are sure sheās in safe hands.
Thank you so much for your support, we really appreciate it, god bless all of you.
In the horrible climate weāre currently in, please take note of this.
Reblogging this again for the guy-instructions

As a white girl who supports these women with all my heart, BOOSTING!!!
as a hijabi muslim girl this makes me so happy
Share!
Thereās many reason why I always have a flannel on me, and this is one of them.
Just the other day I gave it to a kind hijabi girl at a cafe because some asshole reached across the counter and ripped her hijab off, saying that sheās now āfreeā from it
Followers, please rb this and keep this in mind!!!
This is not related to my blog at all but is SO IMPORTANT!!
Rebloging for anyone who needs this information and I will keep this information in my head!
Important info!!!
Fic idea I was struck with the other day and keep thinking about: a Vulcan adopts a cat.
Still thinking about this, even though Iām not writing the fic!
This Vulcan, Iām calling her TāPen, goes to a shelter and gets a cat, and the shelter employees are like, a bit weirded out? But obviously theyāre going to give her a cat, I mean, sheās a Vulcan, sheās Super Responsible, she takes all the pamphlets and listens attentively to all the advice the shelter employees give her, even though it is obvious she researched a lot on her own.
Then TāPen asks the shelter folks what she should name the cat and runs into That Thing Humans Do Where They Confound a Vulcan With Their Weird Ways
Shelter Employee 1: oh, you can name a cat anything! Thatās whatās great! People names, common nouns, whole phrases.
Shelter Employee 2: yeah, nothing sounds weird on a cat. Everything from Chad to Cupboard is fair game.
SE 1: yeah, I mean, you canāt call a dog Chad, that would be weird
SE 2: I wouldnāt fuckinā trust anyone who named their dog Chad
SE 1: oh word
TāPen:ā¦.
TāPen: ā¦.fascinating.
Later, in the interest of furthering her anthropological study of Earth, TāPen has a houseparty and she invites her coworkers, many of whom are human, but others which are aliens, and are fascinated by TāPenās cat
Vulcan Co-worker: TāPen, what have you named this small Earth feline?
TāPen: I have named him Marmalade.
Vucan co-worker: Is that not the name of a type of Terran fruit preserve? I do not understand the logic behind this choice.
TāPen: the logic is self-evident to a human.
Human Co-worker: TāPen, omg, you have a cat! Whatās his name?
TāPen: thank you for your inquiry. His name is Marmalade
Human Co-worker: oooh! yeah, that makes sense, because heās orange and sweet! lmao, great name
Vulcan Co-worker: ā¦
Vulcan Co-worker: ā¦.fascinating
Human: So, howās Marmalade?
TāPen: He has the peculiar habit of walking on my workstation.
Human: Aggravating, isnāt it?
TāPen: We Vulcans do not feel human emotions. However, I would prefer it if Marmalade stayed off my workstation, particularly when I am working.
Human: Get a box.
TāPen: Murdering Marmalade seems an overreaction.
Human: No, you need a box with interior dimensions approximately the same as Marmaladeās body, and set it on the floor next to your workstation. Marmalade will sit in the box.
TāPen: Why do you believe that this will work for Marmalade?
Human: We donāt know. Itās just something cats do. If he fits, he sits.
TāPen: ⦠Fascinating.
Vulcan Commander: TāPen, you are posting videos of your cat. Explain.
Tāpen: My colleagues are amused and entertained by Marmaladeās interactions with his environment. I am amused and entertained by their reactions as reflected in the comments.
Vulcan Commander (reading):Ā āU haz done me a startleā?
TāPen: Some of them like to verbalize what they believe are Marmaladeās thought processes. He is a cat, so they imagine that he does not grasp human spelling and grammar.
Vulcan Commander: ⦠Fascinating. As you were. (signs off)
TāPen (returning to her meal): Now I can haz lunch.
I need more people to write more bits of this.
The Vulcans going āā¦Fascinatingā is hilarious for some reason.
Itās hilarious because itās the closest they can get to sayingĀ āwhat the fuckā.
If you would report an undocumented immigrant to ICE you would have reported me to the Nazis and I donāt fucking trust you
A note:
I live in a state where you āhave toā report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:
Assume everyone who doesnāt speak English is visiting.
Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know theyāre not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. Thatās terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborersā clothes? I feel you, my dude, I canāt afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes itās not even about āaffordingā them. They say theyāve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isnāt your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you donāt recallāyou meet a lot of people.
And then, if youāre asked: no, you havenāt seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.
Very good very important addition
Essentially, this is the civil society version of a work-to-rule strike.
Donāt do more than is expressly asked of you, and do what you are asked with such an intense attention to protocol that not asking you at all becomes more effective than even bothering.
In this case:
āHave you seen an illegal immigrant?ā
āCould you describe an illegal immigrant, officer?ā
*officer describes a person who is in the country without appropriate paperwork, or who has crossed the border illegally*
āNo, sir, I havenāt seen any illegal immigrant.ā
And this is correct. You have NOT seen an illegal immigrant, because you have no way of knowing if Jose Fulano is here legally or not. And since you canāt see his paperwork (or lack thereof), and did not personally see him cross the border illegally, you are only answering precisely the question asked.
Iām not American, and I have like, three followers, but this is important.
a surprising amount of really important activism rests on your ability to lie convincingly to people in authority
@ all trans people about to attend online school:
This will visually remove your deadname from any webpage. Obviously switch it off if your parents wanna check up on your work, but yee here's the link fam!!!! BOOST THIS!!! SEND THIS TO ANY TRANS PERSON YOU KNOW WHO WILL NEED THIS
An easy to use Google Chrome plugin to automatically remove and replace deadnames
This is really awesome!
i....hate my school.Ā they blocked this. like, wtf?
If your school has blocked this I recommend using āInteractiveFicsā. Its originally used for changing Y/N to your own name but it has a separate option where you can change any word/name to what you want.
It has a less likely chance of being blocked so I thought Iād mention it.
WordReplacer II works as well, though itās not specifically designed for deadnames
