🌈 attn LGBTQ+ youth: Youth Voices applications are open!
every year, we get to work with a group of incredible LGBTQ+ young people from across the country through Youth Voices, our paid youth leadership training program. honestly, one of the best parts of the program is watching y'all realize just how much power your stories, ideas, and creativity have.
if you're 14–18 and in the U.S., Youth Voices is a chance to build leadership, storytelling, advocacy, and digital literacy skills. you'll work with mentors, help shape content and campaigns that reach queer young people around the world, and create a final project that's meaningful to you.
you'll also meet a whole cohort of other LGBTQ+ youth leaders who care about making change in their schools and communities. those connections end up being one of the things participants talk about most.

dark!character and it's just a character being unrealistically abusive or mean. if you're gonna sell me on a dark character, you've got to make it that character. HOW would that character be dark? someone who protects their loved ones fiercely might end up isolating them, but would they REALLY be the type of people to beat their loved oens? someone who is extremely clever doesn't just became a brutish murderer because they're "dark!character"

there’s this thing that happens on this website that’s like the opposite of pissing on the poor and is far better but also still somewhat annoying when you post something where the point is implied and then someone else adds the point you were making in a reblog as though they are like, adding something new and insightful to the post. eg you can post something about a female scientist from the 1800s having her intellect undervalued in her time and someone else is going to add like “that’s so crazy… i think they were treating her this way due to misogyny” and like well yes. i mean… yeah. you got it
yeah there's like an epidemic of people feeling the need to repeat whatever someone had to say to make sure that people knew they understood...

keep thinking about how I wrote in my dissertation about how every time a new form of public/social space emerges it's immediately popular with kids and teenagers who see it as a chance at freedom and then adults colonise it and kick them out. this happened with malls in the 80s and diners in the 50s and pool halls in the 20s. my dad was doing research on this trend in like 1975. and I was like "yeah so this is going to happen to the internet" and then five years later every government suddenly decided to ban kids from everywhere online. I hate being right especially when I don't even get paid for it
after trump it's either gonna be a really good or really bad slew of presidents. because, on one hand, we could all come together and start a movement for change and everyone could get on the same page. on the other, i think about 79% of americans would rather vote kermit the frog into office than have another trump.
