Demon Copperhead TWO
I just re-read the book and decided why not throw another post in here about the book. Still absolutely one of my favorite books, I love it to death. Anyway I'll lay down two quotes for people like I did last time
"Too scared to leave the last place where people looked at me and saw their son or blood brother or their shot at a winning season. I knew what she'd say about that. Trust the road. Because nobody stays, in the long run you're on your own with your ghosts. You're the ship, they're the bottle." (Chapter 60 page 508)
So I like this one since he points out how more than anyone you have to learn to live with yourself. You can't stay where you're at because you're too desperate to keep what you think makes you you. You can't escape change it's a part of life. Trying to stay stuck will get you nowhere. You'll be in the same place seeing everyone else around you move on. Not literally abandoning you, but they get on with their lives doing things.
People who can't imagine anything different because the only different they see is worse. It's hard work to do something that terrifies you, but those are the sorts of things that make you grow as a person. It challenges your idea of what you think is possible for you. And you grow to find you're so much more capable than you ever thought possible. You'll need to believe in yourself and take the first step to change your own life. Trust the road. There's some good shit up ahead.
The door is always open, etc. I wouldn't expect people really to mean that, they just feel guilty walking away from your mess, back to their lucky lives. But I called and she said come over now, why not. (Chapter 51 page 430)
TBH this is one I need to take to heart but it's hard. People are honestly far kinder than you would expect. I've lived (surprise) and I've met some mean people. But I like to believe they're the exception and not the rule. When people offer you a kindness, often times they really mean it. You (me) just need to get over your own head and let people be nice. When people want to be mean or don't have the space to offer their kindness you'll know. So trust them :)
