This scene. THIS SCENE RIGHT HERE. This is the moment that made me go "oh yeah, this movie understands Superman."

After the kaiju battle, you'll notice that when everyone is congratulating them, the Justice gang are walking about waving to everyone and giving a word from their sponsor, like a celebrity waving to a crowd of strangers as they walk down the red carpet.

Now contrast that with Superman! He doesn't just talk TO the people he saved, he talks WITH the people he saved. He converses with them! Embraces them. Checks up on them. COMFORTS THEM!!!!! These people are total strangers to him and yet he treats them like they were his dearest friends because that's how much he treasures each human being.

I know it may not seem like much, but this moment truly captures what makes Superman so special: he's not simply about saving humanity, he's also about CONNECTING WITH HUMANITY!

It would be important to understand that Jedi teachings in George Lucas' canon are not propositions to be believed in, to remember them intellectually - they're truths to be realized and be acted upon. Just like Yoda said, they must have the most serious mind: they must train their minds so that when fear, anger, hate and aggression and attachment arise, they can see them for what they are and how they would lead to suffering. They must have to develop a mind that, whenever they see injustice, would not give rise to anger or hatred, directed at the perpetrator, but to the aspiration to help those who suffer, to protect them from further harm, grounded in compassion.

This year I got to fulfill a childhood fantasy and do a cover for Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog comic series.  Growing up it was one of the only comics I read and spent much of my youth looking up to many of the featured artists and their different styles.  I can easily say that the book is better than it’s ever been now with a dedicated team of artists and writers that really put forth their best efforts every month. So yes, I felt a little pressure going into this.  But I hope you like the end result.  This will be the standard cover (not a variant) for issue 258 to be released February 2014.
