okay but i’m not done. offering someone your jacket is a gesture that contains multitudes because it can be an expression of concern (“you look cold - here, take this”) or a comforting gesture (placing your jacket around the shoulders of someone experiencing shock, offering them the reassuring warmth of your body heat in a way that doesn’t violate their personal space during a time when they might not be in the right mental state to give consent to physical contact) or an attempt at flirting (offering your crush a part of you that simulates physical contact without overstepping any boundaries) or an expression of affection (sharing something that belongs to you and is uniquely yours with someone you love, an understated way of offering yourself to them, letting them know that you consider yourself a part of them and them a part of you). sometimes it’s all of them at once. it’s a way of saying “i care about you, you and your wellbeing are important to me” without words.
